I'm a huge fan of Kenny, no one I'd rather see win, but what Roczen had to do to overcome his injuries required sheer will and true grit (my two favorite qualities in a man), and this thread isn't about the grittiest rider, it's about the most skilled rider. What Pourcel had to do to mitigate the limitations his injuries put upon him required a level of skill that is off-the-charts, IMHO. I vaguely remember Pourcel racing a Yamaha 450 at the Freestone National years back. He was leading Bubba and pulling away when he just pulled into the pits and said, "I'm not riding this bike. It's too dangerous." A rider who can beat Bubba on a bike even though he's terrified of it - has got some mad skills. I've been on a couple bikes in my life that scared me, and the one thing I wasn't while I was on them - was fast.

TP199 is the most overall skilled rider IMO. He can literally do anything really well. To this day you could put him against KRoc in the whoops, he could likely pull off any freestyle trick that anyone else can do, he can still destroy a turn, he can ride woods, pit bikes, etc... etc... no one with more overall talent. He’s beat the best of the best... his only Achilles heal is that he’s made of glass and knees were destroyed by the time he got to Schoolboy class. Yet, he still schooled RC and many other stars of many two wheeled sports.

I watched him not just beat, but annihilate, Dungey at Unadilla back several years ago. The way he rode that track was pure artistry. His line choices were amazing, and they had to be in order for him to preserve enough energy to finish the motos. He would lap a rider, and then the lapped rider would mimic his lines, and they BOTH would catch the next rider. This process kept repeating itself until the checkers fell, and by that time Pourcel looked like he was a locomotive pulling a long line of freight cars. Bubba was amazing to watch too, so was Marty Smith, so was DeCoster (of course), and Cairoli is by far my favorite rider to watch because of his unmatchable race craft and pure determination, but Christophe Pourcel is the most "skilled" rider I've ever seen - and it ain't close.

i think it's interesting that it took 3 pages before Travis Pastrana was really mentioned.

but riders who ride today you have to look at the ones that do multiple types of racing and riding the current leader of that pack here in the state Ryan Sipes.

I am sure there are many like that over the years.

What should be done?


We should crown a champion who competes in more then just one type of racing. Have a whole series of different events to show who really is the better all around rider........................

Weather your a fan of Kens or not, His natural ability and style is the closest to Stew. He never has that crazy push it style you see in Tomac let’s say. He rides in the lowest part of the revs out of perhaps anyone in the world and it seems like he could beat most of the filed with out ever putting his feet down. So I disagree and I would bet most people would too. Also CP never raced Bubba outdoors on a the Yamaha your talking about, in 11 Stew was indoors only and in 12 CP was in Europe. I agree with CP being amazing, he lost the 2010 title not due to his crash in the last round but due to the extreme heat of the year. His second motos were horrible nearly all year. His body was a hindrance.
