I like the look, except for the low roof line of the cab and I wonder if it is even able to be driven with the tailgate down. I applaud the bold move with the retro-futuristic look.

I think there actually is a market for this truck, it's just not the regular truck owner (me) who will buy it. I really hope they come out with an additional more serious/traditional version. They would sell like hotcakes at the price ranges this one came out at.

If they came out with pretty much a Tesla Ridgeline, I think that could do well. Traditional full-size truck buyers probably aren't going to be the target market anyway.

The truck that they presented, I'm surprised it got through all the approval committees and focus groups without getting torn to shreds, it's pretty terrible.
I'm pretty sure that was a department of 1 and that 1 was also the designer. I think this one is 100% Elon.

Ok so the glass wasn't penetrated. You're driving down the road, run into some shit...vehicle all effed up, can't open the doors. Fire Dept rolls up and you're injured/bleeding, etc. They can't open the doors, they can't break the glass. So now they get the jaws out. You die right there cause they had no easy means of acces to get you out or open the doors. (Or they have to get the jaws and tear the vehicle to hell to get you out.....because they couldn't break the glass). Even better you have a medical emergency...no vehicle damage. They have to use the jaws to open the door because they can't break the glass and you're unresponsive. This was not well thought out

Yes, I have a feeling that at least the side windows will have to be the kind in current vehicles that shatter fairly easily. If the windshield can be made out of that heavy duty stuff that would be awesome though. I go through windshields like I go through underwear.

It doesn't look very comfortable with that 4,000 lb quad on its back.

That's the air suspension lowering itself for loading.

Wood shop teacher: "I want you to build a truck with sheets of plywood"

Tesla: "check this ooooout, but it's not wood"

The suspension adjusts for easy loading. It did it as well last night before leveling up once the tailgate closed.

The interesting thing no one has mentioned is this truck has 110 and 220 output ability. This would allow you to charge an electric mx bike at the track off the vehicle's battery. If they allow 32 amps out via 220 it would put about 7kw of charge per hour into a mx bike. Alta had a 5.8 kWh battery pack so theoretically you could go from 0 to 100% in less than an hour on Alta. It would of course depend on thermal management and taper settings for the pack.

The truck has no side mirrors either. Probably cameras like the Atlis truck.

Pass. If it's going to have the Mustang badge, make it look like a Mustang. Not some crossover/suv.

Same thing with the new corvette. Should just have been a new car.

My first thought!

Its why our Rally series outlawed anything but automotive glass. Guy ended up upside down in a ditch with walls on both sides. Guess who couldn't open the doors or kick the windshield out.. Glad the car didn't catch fire.

I thought it was so strange to attach the Mustang name to that. It looks like a Porsche and a Mazda had a cross over baby.

More like a Tesla Model X and Model Y had a baby.

What. The. Actual.

Is Elon actually insane? I mean, clinically, documented? That thing is fugly! Comparing it to a Countach or a DeLorean is an insult to those cars. Who approved that monstrosity? My 10 year old could design a better-looking truck by peeing on a snowball.

I personally think it will go through some more big changes before it ever goes into production. Production at the earliest is not slated till the end of 2021 which is two years away. And by Tesla time that means like 2045 most likely as they never meet their own timelines.

Currently it doesn't even have any side view mirrors. I'll use that as an example.

I think a lot of truck owners were excited to see a potential new style truck enter the market and Tesla had a real chance at capturing some of the lucrative truck market.

With this current truck design they have all but killed that.

If I'm a big Tesla investor I would have to be pissed at the launch of this vehicle. There is no way it will convert over any noticeable amount of the market. Tesla had a golden opportunity here and released something practically offensive to truck mined and truck buying folks.

We all know what it's like to get baked or drunk and come up with fantastical ideas. And then we wake up and realize how stupid they are. This truck design is born out of that realm.

Notice how they loaded up a quad in the back and not a kick ass two wheel bike, like maybe an Alta.

Nuff said.

Lack of a step bumper and sloped bed sides means no way anyone is buying that thing who actually needs a truck.
And fuck unibodies.

It's weird, the more I see of it the more it's starting to look cool. I still can't imagine me buying one because I'm not personally into flashy. This might be a good selling vehicle.

Why do people constantly think Tesla is government subsidized? Tesla gets ZEV credits (like every other mfg) but sells them for less than value to other mfg’s since they don’t produce ICE vehicles. The only subsidy is to the buyer but that ends completely for Tesla in December.

If you want to look at gross subsidies check out Boeing’s space subsidy, coal and oil...
Coal and oil? Those two "dirty" natural resources that will be used to provide power to charge the batteries in this "environmentally friendly" monstrosity.

There is nothing futuristic about this design - origami has been around for centuries.

Surprising to me, I’m seeing a lot of posts on FB groups where people are reserving them.

I guess if they can sell 50,000 a year that’s 3 Billion in gross revenue. Maybe 50,000 per year won’t be hard when your market is 8 billion people on earth. You could almost argue just from the press exposure last night and today it was a success.

He probably is honestly but, lots of people thought he was insane when he invested every dollar he had into a startup electric car company and rocket company. So far, he’s won a lot more than he has lost. This vehicle isn’t make or break for them so I’m guessing he let it hang out a lot more than usual. Will this become the iPhone 2.0 where within a few years all trucks look similar or will it live in infamy?
