I don’t care how you spend your money. I just have been ripped off and had to close down credit cards and debit cards because of “legit tool sales guys” hitting my card long after I legit paid for them so yes that makes it theft. I never got a single dollar back. Did I say names No. Do you want me to? I will gladly. I have no problem calling a thief a thief. But I exercise restraint. And as far as my investment in my tools they are worth more than my truck I never borrow anything from anyone. But I’m the guy all the new guys come to to borrow. My rule is you can borrow it twice. The third time the answer is no it’s time to buy your own. Are Snap On, Mac and Matco extremely over priced ? Yes without a doubt. When people come to me to borrow my tools I make them give me their phone or wallet. That way they always bring it back.

I bought the 44" top, and bottom, with the side locker.
Theres no power strip, so I cut a hole in my brand new locker for one.
The lid is a bit off, and didnt take long to rub the paint off the lip.
A couple of the drawers dont extend all the way. They get caught part way.
Some of the drawers were real wobbly, but I fixed that with a hammer. Just the tabs on the slides needed to be pounded down more.
Drawer in the locker smacks the door unless you have the door open all the way. Super annoying.
Only 24" deep means my 24" breaker bar doesnt fit too many places. Same with some bars and the like.
As "big" as my set up is, theres still not enough space for power tools.

With that said. I paid about $1000 for the entire set up and all my tools are in there. And it feels like a higher quality box than other chinese boxes.
It ain't snap on, but I ain't a professional mechanic either.
Was the unit on display in the store, If so did it do that?

When I got my HF box I should have opened the box as it had been dropped and was not straight. Took it back and no biggie they gave me another.

My HF store is an hour away so when I buy another I will defiantly open the box and look at it before I head home.

No mine wasnt a display model. Youd never notice the lid rubbing, it's so minor you can only tell because the powder coat is rubbed clean off. I wouldnt have opened every drawer in the store anyways. The ones I did open feel better than the average chinese box.

Lol, same here. I've been in and out of the field since 99. I've worked all the "personalities" the ones that envy you for what you buy, spend your money on then have the nerve to come ask to use/borrow your stuff. Worked with alot of negative ned's that literally have chips on their shoulders. While it's true that you don't have to have all/every truck tool/tools, you do get what you pay for and they are meant to withstand the day in/day out abuse of the field. Yes, they wear out over time, they get oversized/stretched/crack etc, but that's where the warranty comes into play. I have an assortment of Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, Craftsman, Lisle, channelock, Lang Tools, SK.

That's just my automotive tools, to each his own. If your just a Diy'er, you can get by with harbor freight, husky, kobalt, craftsman, but again to each his own.

Bottom line, but what you want, when you want, how want. Its your money. Buy what you can afford.
For me I don't need to buy anything, I have everything I need to work on anything.

Literally

Toll truck. I’ve bought them because I was in a jam. Bought the overpriced Strap on and it broke with two weeks. Stap I’m guy have never offered to exchange or replace it. I have snap on Cornwell MAC and Mato. Getting the owners to exchange rebuild or replace. He’s always trying to sell. Me something I don’t need. I need the one I bought. 125$ for a1/4” wrench is 4 times 6 times more expensive than its with. But hey it’s your money. You get the something just a durable for less than half the price. Yes Harbor freight is a waste of $. There’s good tool but buyer be ware

That's why you call the corporate office..... Believe me, they'll be calling you back with a local dealer that will due the warranty exchange. It's in their franchisee agreement clause, sure these franchise's don't want to be driving around all day doing warranty exchanges. After all they have franchisee fees that they have to pay to corporate. So I do understand both sides.

It cost' s money to run/have a business/franchise/route. I mean you do have to see both sides here, if that were you, do you want to drive around exchanging tools all day, several days a week, meanwhile corporate wants to see your numbers, they want their franchisee fee. More you sell the more inventory you can have/build it takes money. Establish a business relationship, buy something, or buy something in the future from him. These guys are providing a service to your shop etc. No different then ordering pizza, it's a service, white glove service.

My Track/Desert tool box. 3 drawer husky, holds everything I need and more. Nothing special, but it's practical and works. Currently a mess with other stuff in it. But usually have everything in their to do a complete teardown and rebuild and then some. Get what you can afford...

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a paper towel holder like that. Definitely gonna look into that. I’m assuming it’s just magnets?

Yeah man, harbor freight has the magnetic paper towel holders for $10, you can get them in different colors as well. However, im not sure if they carry all the different color in the store or if you can only get them online, but the red ones they sell in store.

Can also get a magnetic glove box holder, magnetic trays and magnetic spray can holder all at harbor freight.

Oh and you can get the stainless steel magnetic bowls 4" & 6" for cheap. Sometimes you can get the 4" one for free when they have their freebie items

Also husky make these magnetic paper towel holders, but their only available in black.

Get the 20% coupon

Running an old Craftsman full size from the 1980's in the shop and a 3 drawer Craftsman for the track. Not fancy enough to photograph but I have a crazy assortment of weird tools. I need to practice cutting the foam and will probably buy the HF for the garage.
My dad has been a die hard Snap On guy from his Army days to his last company he sold building firetrucks and 3 letter agency vehicles. (Don't ask)

Great thread.

I like this!

I'm more of a Matco guy since my dad was a distributor back when I was a young kid in Idaho. Sadly, I've outgrown the box he handed down to me so I'm in the market for an upgrade.

These Matco boxes are from the mid-80s and aside from a little paint fade they're still in perfect condition. I wonder how the HF boxes will hold up after 30 years of use. For the price I'm willing to try.

Cornwell is just as good and not near the price but it doesn’t say Strap On. Bunch of pantywaists with their pantys in a bunch. Knock Strap On or a crocked dealer. And look out. The snow flakes are offended.

There’s a reason ever tool ive ever used in the Air Force for professional aircraft maintenance has been Snap on.
You arent doing much wrenching for the air force then. We use snap on, proto, knipex, and many more at depot level maintenance for the air force. Snap on is actually in the minority. Cornwell is what i use in my personal box, along with gear wrench, ingersoll, knipex, and cdi for tq wrenches (cdi makes the majority of snap on, mac. Amd cornwells tq wrenchs.)

Every flightline box I’ve work out of from Shaw, Kunsan, Beale, and Holloman have been Snapon. But your results may vary. The point was professionals use professional grade tools may it be snapon, MAC, MATCO, Cornwell and there’s a reason for that.

Just go pick up a husky 3 drawer toolbox, kobalt top box, or a craftsman 3 drawer tool box. If you can't afford new, look online (Craigslist, Facebook marketplace) theirs always deals out their. You can even get a husky top chest 26" wide by 24" if that for around $60 I believe it's a ten drawer.

Just gotta look, the deals are out their. Harbor freight has all the magnetic holding stuff that I posted pictures of.

I like the matrix box but I don't like their pricing. As I think you can get a similar size husky or craftsman for much cheaper.

Yes your right, the craftsman option is prab better quality. But the custom graphic wrap is a nice touch with the Matrix and it was a gift so I can’t complain lol. Plus I like supporting companies who support moto.

The tool box itself means very little. Its a fancy metal can used for storage.
An important part is the tools inside the box.
The most important part is the mind of the person who is using the tools.
The grey matter between his two ears- critically important.
