Any sure fire ways to get it back to white again? Been sanding it started with 180 . The tank was same color as the lower part. I know it's not from inside out because the parts not exposed to sun are still white. Anyone have a clean tank?

Wonder if vapor blasting would bring it back? Nothing to lose....

Not sure if it will work for fuel tank, but a cream peroxide based hair product has been known to turn yellowed plastic back to white with some time in the sun. For the $3 small bottle, it may be worth a shot.

May be worth trying both. I have it soaking in a tub of bleach now. I will look into both ideas thanks. Thanks for the offer on tank as well

I tried the peroxide and didn’t have much luck with mine. I sanded and sanded and it got better but still wouldn’t match the rest of the plastic. I know a few years ago Yamaha showed they still had a few new tanks in stock. Clarke also lists a tank available. I just got it the best I could and then covered it with stickers..

I have not tried it but, what about bleach? White tank, may work?
I done a few tanks. I have used the head light renew kit. Works pretty good. Takes a bit of time. I also made a "dummy backbone" for lack of better term with 2x4's to hold the tank while I sand on it.

I didn't read it all. I see you are trying the bleach. Hope it works.

I have been told that good cream peroxide works quite well, but the key is to heavily coat the tank in the peroxide cream, then seal it in a clear plastic bag and leave it in the sun for a couple of days

It's still soaking in bleach. Seems to have lightened up a bit. I'll let it soak a few more days. Cream is next. After that it's a call to Clarke tanks.

Tank is starting to come clean may just buy a clarke. Did try a fix for insert with bolt locked in. I drilled the head off to get the shroud off. Damn bolt would not come out. So I cut it off flush and drilled it out. Picked up a Helicoil kit and installed. Cut off excess and smoothed to surface. May help others.
