Fevbre’s bike has a longer frame.

The Yamahas look so good in the GPs this year by sheer volume of bikes on the track. Remember if AC222, Jh84, and CD25 we’re out there you would maybe see one in the top 5. Non the less they do look better on the track and I’m sure that’s due to unlimited amount of changes that can be made. GP bikes to AMA bikes are apples to oranges

Some of you guys make it sound like MXGP bikes are akin to Formula 1 cars whereas the AMA factory bikes are like ARCA late model racers.

No, they aren't. Do you look at the pit bits from AMA/MXGP and compare them?

US bikes have to run stock frames, cases and cylinder heads ETC. Euros can change any part they like. The GP teams make special frames and engine components for different tracks. Also the tracks over there are much different than the US. We disc the dirt super deep and flood it with water to make rutted slot car tracks with Supercross style obstacles. The euros run more real motocross natural style terrain at most tracks and don't make the huge synthetic jumps like we do. One of the reasons the euro guys corner so well and go so fast.

Are the three Yamahas in the top 5 in GPs completely bespoke builds with frames, swingarms and geometry developed and built specifically for that rider?

I think it would open up a can of worms that might lead to more setup issues. It would be interesting to know what the pre season consists of? They seem to do a lot more racing, and spend 6 months practicing, racing and testing for motocross.... maybe that’s more to do with it than some mystical magic and formula 1 bespoke builds. One good week of big testing and barcias speed is light and day.... maybe testing is good and I really think the riders and fans should demand at least a 4 week window between SX and MX to allow room for this testing.

Way back when we had full on works bikes in the US. The Suzuki RH250 thatnJoel Robert rode was made of titanium and magnesium. Supposedly it weighed in at about 150lbs. Same thing with DeCosters bikes. Honda had hand made works racers that cost huge amounts of money. Then the AMA came up with the claiming rule where you could basically buy their race bike from them. It happened one time to Marty Tripes. After that no more works bikes in American motocross. AMA eventually made rules about what stock parts you have to use. The factories still cheat and the AMA looks the other way.

Have any sources for Herlings frame not passing tech? 99.9% sure you are full of shit. Highly doubt anyone would catch that during tech if it was longer.

Mathes has stated they have gone backwards in the setup department. Reed and Coop even indicated Yamaha wouldn’t let them change much. There’s more issues than just the riders under the factory Yami tent

Works bikes in American motocross existed long after the Marty Tripes deal.

Plessingers rookie season is horrible. But this is not all on him, lots of things indicates that the American Factory Yamaha team has issues with management and the testing department. Bringing in Travis Preston in the latest off week seems to have helped Barcia and his setup.

2015 should have killed the this bike can’t win talk. Febvre won the MXGP title, Barcia in mid to late season was a legitimate threat to Dungey. Webb jumped on the bike from a 250 and rode better outdoors than he had on a 450 till this year. Then the bike won every Moto at the MxDN. This year they are killing it in the GPs.

But it isn’t orange and doesn’t say KTM on the side, how can it possibly be good?

You have answered the question yourself. You do know that the same team of trainer(s) from Star when Webb and Plessinger were there stayed on as their trainers when they went to 450?

Mathis "alluded" to it not being "stock", never was stopped in tech. Just goes to show how people twist things they hear, either intentionally or not (someone actually told Racer111 this).

Not riding a piece of shit helps oodles too I'd bet.

Herlings definitely used Trey Canard's bike at Ironman....
