I really do not want to come off insulting as you just seem like a young kid who has no idea how the industry, or the world, actually works yet.

The whole world runs on credit. Do you really think dealerships are fronting all the money to stock units? That would be an unattainable business motto, sans for a few billionaires. Would it blow your mind to know that car dealerships operate on credit? As well as Lowes, Best Buy, Home Depot, Dicks, etc. etc, etc. It is not bad business, it is good business....Have you heard of the term overhead? You think a dealership could survive with millions of dollars in stagnate units?

You need to wait until you are in the real world before you start passing all of these judgments....All of your business philosophies are wrong. Credit makes the world go round, and companies are in business to make money...Smiles and good vibes do not keep the lights on. Good customer service goes a long way, I agree. But, you are quite far out of touch on what it takes to run a dealership. Putting a picture on Facebook does not sell units....

Dealerships do not owe you anything, if you want the bike...earn it

So when you buy a car when the msrp is say 15,000. Do you then have to pay for them to have the car sit there? Do they charge you a set up fee? Do they charge you a dealer fee? No you don’t cause that’s on them they don’t pass that to the customer and even if they do that put it in the msrp they don’t want until your signing papers to add a few extra grand for fees they think is called for. All I’m saying is if the bikes msrp is 10,000 I shouldn’t be paying upwards of 13,000+. That’s why I made this thread to find a cheaper way. I’m not trying to get a dirt bike for free but I also don’t wanna pay for a set up fee dealer fee etc I don’t care what you say nothing else works like this. Your example for instance you don’t go to bestbuy and have to pay a Best Buy fee etc right? It’s the msrp + tax. It’s all included in the msrp. When I go to Home Depot I don’t have to pay a flooring fee for the wood sitting there along with a home depot fee do I? So please explained to me how this is the same as a Motorsport dealership?

I worked at more than a few dealerships through the years, parts sales and wrench.
What pisses off most buyers are the hidden fees and what I call pack fees, like $400 for PDI....or just the yank your chain sales game.
We all know there's no $400 in labor on a mx bike PDI.
I knew what we needed to make off each model to keep the doors open, I was straight up front with the customer.
This is what the price is, tax, doc, shipping...otd total.
If they paid with a CC then they pay the points.
I had no problem showing the customer dealer cost and most times that sealed the deal.
Once the customer saw that "yes" I was making a little money on the sale but they weren't getting hosed, I pretty had a future repeat customer.
The no BS sales approach is the best.....at least it worked for me.

Consider yourself lucky. Destination charges and setup fees are industry standard in the car business also.

I would have bought a bike from you. Showing me that, I'd have no questions or any fight and would instantly tell you done deal, let's sign.

Yes it was, you just didnt know you were paying fees. You think that dealer MSRP sticker on the window comes from the factory ? nope its is printed for the dealers and can have any price you want on it. Cars are much easier to get your fees but as long as you are happy when you leave the dealership that is all that matters. Hell Colorado cars have a Colorado markup just because the wages are way above normal in Colorado , you make more money here and you pay more money here. Cool Wink

See at the dealership I go to isn’t like that they have a low price on the tag and then when you go to sign it jumps 3,000 + and when you start asking questions about it they get mad at you for seeing why is so high. It makes you feel like shit when all these fees hit with not knowing it when you go to buy and then half the fees are bs. I understand they have to make money but I just feel like they are taking advantage of people. Im sure some dealers are probably awesome to work with but the ones around me aren’t like that at all

Lol this guy no bud straight from Chevy dealership. KBB on the car was 15,000 guess what the dealer had it at? 15,000. So I paid 15,000 plus ga state tax plus the tittle fee. They must be really good at hiding the fees then huh?

I work in sales at a dealership and WOW some of you guys seem to think dealers make a hell of a lot more than we do on these bikes.

1. 90% of people who come in looking at bikes waste your time for hours, bitch about pricing, then when you`ve bent over backwards and taken off every bit of profit you can afford to you put in the credit app and they`ve got cell phone bills in collections and a credit score below 500.

2. If I sell a brand new KX450F for list price my margin is 9% that`s $900 on a $10,000 bike. That`s a laughable margin before the price gets haggled down.

3. The customers that get the most help, the best service and the best deals aren`t the whiny pricks who try to hammer the deal down to cost. If you come in acting like an asshole, there`s not a chance I`m moving someone else back in line to have your bike ready for Friday.

Used cars are a totally different game, there`s a lot more margin in used than there is in new.

Also, I don`t know how it is where you are, but in Ontario dealers are not allowed to charge anything but listed price, tax and licencing on anything street legal.

Lets not forget the rebates. If a manufactuer offers a $1000 rebate, the savings gets passed on to the customer. Then the dealer cashes in the rebate to the manufactuer and collects the $1000.
Hopfully you know about the rebate and get it deducted from the price. If not the dealer makes full price and cashes in the rebate on top of that. Straight up double dip!!!

Exactly, so it's a break even. By the time a bike has a rebate, you've likely dipped into the red on flooring and it's marked down. You're not making extra money on a rebate as a dealer unless you don't offer it to your customer.

There are shady dealers out there that will hold rebates if a customer doesn't ask though.

The bike basically stays the same price all the time. Unless its a non selling unit that has been on the floor for some time. You cut your cost, break even and move on. We have not even started to mention the points dealers make on financing. They make their money, dont worry.

Its an optical illusion!!!

If your new bike is EFI, some manufacturers (Honda, KTM, Husky) have to unlock the ECU electronically with a dealer code.

I think they do this to prevent thieves riding them out of the dealership.

That could be a problem if you find a dealer to send you a crated bike

By the time rebates are doled out dealers are losing money on flooring for the bikes, they use the rebates to drop thge price to sell them. Literally no dealer is going to quote a price without the rebate, its a sales tool, and even if there were stupid and crooked enough to try one call to the dealer one town over and theyre busted.

Also, how much money do you thin k there is for a dealer on a 5 year $10,000 loan at 5% interest? The answer is usually about $100 if the dealer is lucky. Out of curiosity i just checked a recent Sea-Doo sale of mine. $10,300 OTD, 4.98% on a 5 year deal. The bank makes $1300 off the interest. The dealer kickback was $10.38. TEN DOLLARS. So go on talking about how much we make off financing, we make sweet fuck all, the bank makes money.

It's a breach of policy to add points onto factory financing.

It can be done when financing through non factory financing (2nd chance, credit unions) but not factory financing.

I mean doing financing as a dealer youre pretty much acting as a broker. Its the bank that sets the interest rate.

Exactly. Usually Syncrony/Sheffield handle factory financing along with Yamaha Financial, Kawasaki, etc have their own revolving credit offers. You cannot touch those rates as a dealer. You can't tack on additional points to the rate.

If you're financing through 2nd chance, non-prime or credit unions you can usually add a point or two before you show the rate to the customer.

I'd love to take a trip into your fantasy land. Dealers have a hard time hiding the factory rebates as they are posted all over the manufactures websites...and the dealer websites...and the dealer showrooms. You are way off base man, stop spreading lies. The money made on units is laughable, if you think otherwise....You are blind.

Banks set the interest rate...not the dealer...so try again.

Edit: someone beat me to it.

Points are given as kickbacks. If you get a financing rate of X the bank will kick back X amount of points to the dealer.
It all adds up in the end.

Dealers charge for shipping (destination fee) because they are charged freight from the manufacturers. Most people think this is a BS fee, well I am here to tell you, it is not. You can look on most manufacturers websites, and it will tell you exactly what they charge.

And for the people complaining about a setup fee....How much do you really think a dealer makes on a unit? Have that number in your head? Divide it by 4. Dealers make absolute shit on bike sales. The "set up fee" helps cover the cost of putting the bike together, WorldPay/credit card companies fees, astronomical insurances costs, cost of fluids for units (oil and antifreeze are always low, ZERO fuel in bikes), tools required to put bikes together, disposal of shipping crates, fork lift costs, etc. etc.
You are correct, however I refuse to pay that "BS charge". Everything they touched on my newest bike was messed up. Loose throttle tube, backwards wheel spacer, wheel nuts loose, etc. If i was one of those people who didn't look go over their bikes......I could of been seriously hurt.
So with respect, I will not pay it.

We all assumed it was used because you used Kelly Black Book as a basis for the price. That’s a used car valuation tool.
