Picked up this nice C2 about a year ago and never did anything with it. Decided to race GP class for 2010 and did a quick racer build on it. Taking it down to FLA for Gatorback in a few weeks.

Cool, that one is on my list. That was my first real race bike. I did the works shocks on it back then with an in house (Suzuki West) fork job. I sure wished I kept all my bikes from back the.

The C2 RM's are sweet.

i had a 78 RM 250 C,
that has to be a different gas tank, because mine came with an aluminum gas tank, if you go my profile theres pic of it the one with the fox air shocks.
i also had a 79 RM 250 and it came with a plastic gas tank.
bike looks really good, good job

'78 C2 had the plastic tank....mid year model change....kind of a 78 and a half.

i put duct tape on the tank to keep my knees from rubbing away the paint

Right, the C2 is different than the C. As stated above also commonly referred to as a "1978 1/2" model.

I had both. 78 & 78 1/2
tank change, from aluminum to plastic
swingarm, from steel (chromoly) to "sloppy" aluminum
new "rubber" mounted handlebars
new full floating rear brake
and a dozen minor internal changes to forks, shocks and motor (5 more horses)
Great bikes for sure. The major problem I seem to of had was frame breaking at the bottom of the" front down tube" / "bottom frame rails". Loose motor mount bolts maybe?

When I prepped a C2 I had Thor Racing weld a gusset underneath the down tube and tied in the frame rails, and used one of his swingarms along with Works Performance Shocks. I did use Simons forks on it also.

Who were you wrenching / working for in that era, if you do not mind my asking?
I assume in your post that this area with the gussets is right below the front motor mount?

Awesome looking ride Pitracer. It looks like you have a pretty good stable of Suzukis.

I did the same thing to my bikes, to fix the frame problem.
Used a triangle shape piece of 1/8'" sheet metal to tie the three frame members together.
Added weight but never a problem after that fix.

in '78 I worked for Cross Up turning wrenches for Marty Miller and then Steve Ryhan. When Cross up had some money problems I was hired by Steve Ryhan for 1979 National and CMC races.

10-4, thanks for the reply. Funny that you should mention Cross Up; I just picked up a Cross Up swingarm for my 76 370. I really wanted a Thor but I stumbled on to this one.

That was one of the best bikes made. I would set mine up with Simons, Fox Air and and aluminum swing arm. I ran the motor box stock but would replace the jug, crank and mains every third race.

Sweet ride!
