Ok, dumb question time, where did it go? Was it scrapped off and hauled out? Other materials hauled and mixed in? Or did it just naturally settle? I found myself asking these questions during the broadcast every time it was mentioned.

Sand washes downward on hills, especially during snowmelt. Then it runs off into nearby streams. Then the thing that made your track a thing is now a thing somewhere else.

In farms, this is called sediment runoff and is part of the reason hills are terraced.

Duh, makes perfect sense and I should have known. If I had waited until after my second cup of coffee I would have figured it out...lol. Thanks. I will now slip away slightly embarrassed and a bit more humbled. 😐

The south wick sand literally looks like the sand at barrow Mx. Anyone agree?

Plus a lot of it stays on the bikes & ends up in the paddock or in the riders back yards. We used to wash our bikes in the same spot in the garden for the best part of 10 years, you can visibly see a slight mound there now, sounds crazy but true.

Looks like the same sandy content I raced on in ‘75-77. And, the same sandy content I spectated at in person, or on telly, from 1980’s to present. It’s a sandy area, just not the circuit itself. It’s sandy. Red Bud has only been a sandy track for the last 10-15 years or so, used to be a dirt, loamy content. Been going there since the 80’s.

I read once that they brought in truckloads of sand at Southwick not too long ago. It did seem like there were more and bigger whoops back in the 80's though.

Everything was more and bigger and natural in the 80's.

Now everything is silicone added, technology over indulged and lacks any common sense.

I rode Southwick 10-15 years ago & being from Michigan most of the track was not very deep sand

Most of Michigan is sand , deep

Red Bud was always a clay track , gradually they have added sand , last few years a lot of sand

Is all about water and prep with this kind of sand. Low on rain and not ripping it deep ones in a while moves the base higher and higher. All southwick style sand will pack, it is not like Florida black sand or real beach sand that water easily penetrates by its own creating depth.
