This was on Craigslist 2 hrs south of me on Monday morning....had been for sale for at least 3-4 days..could not believe it was still available...this bike cannot have more than 6-8 hrs on it...everything stock accept the rear tire...I have been looking for a decent 93-97 for 2-3 years now....this won’t be much of a build, it’s a clean & grease job. Going to stay all original...

After a good cleansing & fluids drain, I lay it over & use PB blaster on all the swingarrm, linkage bolts to soak a few days before teardown. Subframe had never been removed from the bike, the upper painted bolt still had all the white paint on it, first time a socket is put on it, the paint chips off....carb has some varnish...rear shock rubber bumper split. I took pipe off & looked into cylinder, stock cast piston, can still see cross hatch”s in the cylinder ..

I don’t think the gas tank has ever been removed....I gave it a little wipe down & coat of WD-40 until I can dig further into it, going to pull top end for inspection, when I finish up some other projects...

Thanks, I thought for sure when a I got ahold of the seller it would be gone....seller wanted to wait until the weekend for me to come look at it...I said nope, I have to come today....I have made that mistake before, bikes like this are usually gone on the first day...

That is a sweet find! Check the sealing between the air intake boot and the filter cage, over the years the silicon bond will die. Best is to seal it again, easy fix.

I like builds where you do all kinds of mods but when they are this original I keep them that way...Thanks man...

I too have been looking for the last 3-4 years. A few years ago, I looked at a pretty good 96 and did not pull the trigger, it was gone the next day, lesson learned...if it’s decent it won’t last long...the seller had it listed as a 98 model, I click on just about all ads because a lot of guys do not know what year their bikes are....

Skid plate is insanely hard to find. Searched for over 2 years to find one on ebay.

If you remove it make sure you have plenty of time and patience for the reinstall.

I have also been looking for parts for these bikes along with looking for the actual bike....yes, WC skid plates long gone...I have no plans to remove it, but I do know if I do, soak those Phillip heat screws with PB blaster, and use an impact driver with a good tip! Actually it would not be hard at all to remove it & have it duplicated for reproduction...the brackets were all pretty much generic to the frame rail size.

Finding a bike this clean in the North East is super rare....most bikes are just hammered by the rocky, hard pack terrain that is most predominant is this region. I have looked at at least 5 CR125s”s in the past 3-5 years that were total junk, but still ran and sellers were in the 1500.00 range...

Some of the bikes I have, I would make a few bucks on, some I would definitely lose on, good thing I”m not in this to make money! What did I pay? ...much less than you would think...
