Having attended well over 25 Nats starting with Trans Am events you know my age. I am not a complainer yet responding to the OP question with our experience at WW Ranch.

Positive

1. Access to interstate- best I have experienced.
2. Lodging- cheap, cheap at $65 a night.
3. General facility layout- awesome

Negative

1. GA tickets- internal track viewing is poor at 40%. Once the allowed EZ ups were assembled at internal fence lines viewing went to shit.
2.Lack of available food and fluids. National fast food vendor had zero fluids available at 1 PM. Closed on Sunday.
3.Zero large scale mist stations available for spectators. Amazing safety factor.
4. Staff UTV employees used and blocked the spectator walk through tunnels every 15 minutes. Unacceptable safety.

Summary- WW ranch next year- will NOT attend

Bring back Muddy Creek. We will drive 2-3 hours further to multiple Nats.
I don't think you're being unfair and you raise some good points - especially the mist stations. Apparently the food vendors completely underestimated the amount of people.

What I would request is that you give them one more shot and see if they improve next year. I'm certain they will. Another idea would be to skip next year and wait for the reports on the improvements, then make a decision about 2021 attendance.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to have a chalk-line around 20-30 feet back from the fence...to designate where you can/can't set-up a canopy...

Thoughts?

I'm collecting all of your thoughts that each of you have put into this thread and will assemble them into an e-mail to send to Junior's wife. She will respond and I'll let you know what she has to say.

It always surprised me about spectator turn out in Florida events, especially in Supercross races. Tampa and Orlando Supercross is always had crappy turnouts, under 20,000 at some races which just blows my mind.

For this race I think a lot of people just decided to stay home and watch it on TV from the comfort of their house.

true. but there is more variance to it than outdoors = hard and sx = easy

1) see the whole track from one spot

2) ability to see multiple sections and have some ability to follow a race

3) sit in front of one turn/table/etc, thats your racetrack

flat tracks offer up #3

troy. freestone. etc. great racing. poor in person spectating.

none of this matters if TV viewership takes precedent over facility attendance. if attendance matters, seemingly it would...
I have to disagree that Freestone falls in that category as you can go into the infield and see riders on 40-50% of the track by spinning in place. Not sure how much of the infield was used in WW but it didn't look like average joes were allowed anywhere except the outer band of the track.

Harry-you are a great ambassador to this track and our sport. My comments were observations only.
We sat 20 feet outside your VIP tent all day.
Outdoor MX is in our blood. Thinking right now of driving to Southwick.

Thanks, man! I did write them, and they have already responded. They are, as I suspected, aware of the problems, and steps are, and will be, taken to correct them. I was advised that over $1 million was spent by the family in improvements for the Nat. I know our government routinely kicks around figures of billions and trillions, but for an individual family to yak up a million should tell you something about the Scarborough's commitment to pro motocross.

My minor complaints are completely trumped by having a new track on the circuit that belongs to rad owners who are running the track with passion instead of like a business. You can tell they are excited to run the facility and see good, safe racing.

I hope the powers at be give them an agreement to a minimum of 3 more years on the National schedule. WW would feel much more secure to keep making big strides each year to the facility and by the 4th race I really think they would have a top notch facility and track as good as any on the list today. I imagine they have already sunk a large fortune into the place and are counting on several strong years to get where they need to be.

There were tunnels in each side of the track that allowed you to go into the inside of the track. The inside of the track had just as many people, if not more than the outside lining the fences.

Just get your ass out to the National of your choice as often as you can or as often as your tender ass permits.

Most posts in other threads bitching about WW are from Asshats 2000+ miles away "Cuz it coulda been better on TV"... I wish my Little Debbie Swiss Rolls didn't melt.

Fuck THAT.

You MAKE your own game and situation. Quit bitching if you don't attend and only watch on TV when the races are within a few hours away from your couch.

MX folks are super cool. No shit. Get out and meet them. Friday evening auctions are a blast.

F-YES. Missed High Point, but gonna hit Unadilla and Budds B2B. I usually party too much to take pics...

Call me out... Ask Mr Weinert and Stank Dog. What cool dudes.

Looking at WW next year. Hard working folks.

EDIT: Watch this... ML512 and Guy B... We would be honored and well pleased if you'd stop by our camp site for a nice cold one and a killer Filet Mignon Friday evening, Breakfast Saturday AM before Prayer Service (I strive to attend at Budds, always get in), and anytime after the races at Unadilla and Budds... We ARE the MotoChefs.

They should run this race as the opener.

It wouldn't be so damn hot.

Years ago when it was the opener at Gatorback during the first week of March, you'd be correct. May is a crap shoot here, but most likely it's gonna be very similar to June.

Also, Mrs. WW told me the Navy will not allow WW to do anything at night because of the practice field (Whitehouse NOLF) being so close. As noted previously, I strongly suggest that's why there's no cell towers nearby.

She also noted how they are considering building a big grassy hill in the infield area to spectate from.

I was there and had an awesome weekend! We got there around 9, parked pretty quickly, filled our cooler backpacks with beer and got a shuttle to track entrance. Waited in line for about 3 minutes, walked in and was instantly amazed by the track! I live in Northwest Fl, and we do have Monster Mountain about 3 hrs away but this whole facility was just amazing! The jumps were booters the huge ant hill, the green grass and ponds every where, it was just beautiful.
Then we went to go to the pits and that was a bit of a shit show, the guards at the pits turned us around and told us we had to go back the other way to the white tent to get our pit wristbands, we went over there and she sent us right back, then we had to wait 30 minutes for a guy to finally show up and he didn't even have the wristbands so they drew a line on our wristbands that we got when we came in, and it was just a mess. Im sure that will be fixed next year so I'm not worried about it, but when you just walked around the entire track and your hungover and hot, I got pretty aggravated lol
Other than that it was a typical national, didn't have any issues getting food or waters, hell they even had chik-fil-a that I should have bought for Matthes haha
I just wish every local track owner cared about the sport as much as this guy does, I was at the MXGP there and they improved the facility so much since then.

P.S. it was hotter than the devils ball sack and I felt for the riders lol

Hey Melton, thanks for the report. There was definitely some confusion with the workers. On Friday we were told by three different people where to get our "Fan Packs" and none of them were correct. We finally spoke to a young woman driving a mule (maybe it was a golf cart) and she knew more than all the previous people we spoke to. I don't know who she was, but she was an angel from on high. Told us everything we needed to know and every bit of it was correct.

If your ticket warrants a fan pack, then you should get that fan pack when you get your wristbands. That's how the GP folks did it there and it worked well.

It looked like a nice track viewing from home but also reminded me of the miller motorsports park in UT. I've been to Glen Helen, Washougal, Millville and UT was by far the worst. You could maybe see one turn and a jump. I understand you can't see the entire track at any national but you need to be able to see more than a corner.

I was there and sitting in what I would say was a very good spectator spot and the viewing was still garbage... It's just completely flat and the track is ever elevated above the surrounding area in a lot of places.

My main take away from going was that it's an awesome facility with a track that I very much want to ride. But as a spectator it wasn't worth going IMO.
x2. The whole facility was beautiful....It's a shame we couldn't hardly see the race. Elevated track, tall berms, big jumps, banners, tents..etc.

I'm cool with no canopies. Bring an umbrella if you want some shade. The whole canopy thing is out of control.
Never understood why you'd want to go to a national mx and just sit in one spot; way better view from your couch in front of the television. I get having a home base for the family and cooler, but EZ ups just ruin it for everyone else.

I'll be at Washougal in July, roaming the hills, checking out all of the far reaches of the track. To me, hiking around, checking out different lines (and the wildly different approaches riders take) is simply awesome. You really get the full sensory experience - visual, auditory, smell (love me some high-end race fuel), etc.

If you're running solo (or with other motoheads), bring a Camelbak and wander around; it's very liberating...Cool

That's kind of what I did, and I totally agree with you. I had the most expensive ticket you could buy and hardly sat in that thing or on its rooftop. I was happiest on the fence watching those guys pound that track with those high-dollar factory bikes. Loved it!

Edit add: It is entirely possible that those of us that live within the area are just so happy to have pro-motocross back in Florida that we're overlooking the major flaws. I get that, but as I've previously noted, I know I'm going to catch the race on the screen at home, so I never worry about viewing. Never have. It's just so flippin' cool to finally be at another Nat!

One thing that has become a problem at every round is the signage. I understand that they want their logos to show up on TV but it has gotten ridiculous to the point where you can only see the riders from the waist or shoulders up in many cases. (Not to mention riders who go off track and can't find a decent spot to immediately get back on Wink ).

There was a couple different areas where you could really see quite a bit. Id love to post some of my videos but not trying to give out where the good spots are lol
