Anyone have any info whatsoever about them or any of those guys whereabouts these days? I have some questions about set up of a mid-eighties KX and all research leads me back to those guys.

I am pretty sure Dave Antolak is on here from time to time as 'mrtuf'. I am sure he would have info on the TUF racing bikes from that era. You may be able to get a hold of Dave Miller through his facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/Dave-Miller-Concepts-137383096290268/

Thanks alot! This will help. To get it straight, Miller was with DMC and Antolak with TUF?

Dmc modified kx 100 ' s were some of the sweetest looking minis ever built.

Bumping up this thread because I was looking through old magazines and wondering if Dave works on any modern bikes these days or is it simply go karts, vintage mx and concept bikes?

I believe Eric Gorr was porting TUF KXs in the 80s.
Note, Harry Klemm was Team grean porting same era I believe.
I called Dave Millers shop about 2-3 years back and asked about porting my 1983 kx125 to his specs,,since I had found a rare DMC pipe for the bike...and they sounded totally lost. No notes on what they did in the 80s..
Another strong 1985 KX125 I had back in 85/86 was done by Barr's Competition,,they are still at it in Shelby N Carolina. That motor had the widest powerband,,with stock pipe/ silencer and carb. It ripped and was easy to keep on pipe.

Wow thanks for sharing. That was a few years back but “Totally lost” is not what I’d expect. I was on 80’s in 87/88 and DMC was building crazy minis. To this day my favorite bikes are his KX 80’s! I was curious if they do Current two strokes but got a great history lesson from you Riv187.

Many of us know what rider rode what model bike,,,but I found it very interesting talking with Eric & Harry about who was behind the motors. Another- Guru Paul Thede/Race tech/...before race tech suspension he also ported. I have a 1978 RM125 he did for a pro back in the day. Eric also was doing Krause racing porting. Krause better known as "mr Know it all" and sidewinder sprockets.
Today,,if I want work in ports or cylinder I turn to Eric,,,he's made it his passion and continues to carry on working on old stuff making it better. He's easily the most affordable for the work he does too. Maybe I got the wrong person on phone when I called DMC...but it didn't sound like they where interested in a 30 year old 2 stroke with there name on the pipe.

you need to talk directly with dave to get accurate answers, but he may not want to bother with them. harry is more into the watercraft now and probably doesn't want to mess with them either but you can reach harry at vintgeklemm.com and ask him.

someone also suggested tom morgan at millennium for porting a kawasaki 125 the other day.

i emailed eric twice around 6 weeks ago and never got a reply.

Do one step better... Reach out to Tom Morgan Racing... He was/is the Team Factory Kawasaki 2 stroke guru and turned my 85 KX125 evo race bike into a reliable fire breathing monster!

My father, Larry Owens also performed a lot of porting and polishing for TUF back in the mid to late 80's as well. He came from a drag racing back round, before getting into MX. Here is a picture of he and I back in the day for one of the catalogs ...

When I raced in the 80s I was a honda cr guy. Never really paid much attention to the kxs. Then I bought a kx125 to restore and was cleaning the silencer and noticed it said dmc on it. Have been looking for info since. Would love to find more parts for it.

I had one- Freaking rocket fast, and would pull my 88' CR125 by a big margin..

The midwest was TUF racing’s domain
I raced/ rode a 86 KX250 with a few TUF parts
like the KX250 above, PSI out of WI also sold a ton
of parts.
There was a full on DMC 87 KX125 at Leo’s Kawasaki on the showroom floor, I had a deposit
on , but I then switched it to a new KX250

I remember seeing this photo in the catalog. I was infatuated with everything TUF Racing back then.

Having obviously heard of Dave Miller and drooling over those amazing bikes, not knowing much about him or the bikes really even and I never even knew he was such a fine rider also...

Was recently looking at some of one of my favourite riders posts, the legendary mini cycle champ Paul Denis and saw that he was meant to have had some crazy battles with Dave Miller riding one of his DMC's. That sounds so fascinating and think Paul posted that some of the battles they had were unseen, which may have been on practice tracks etc.

Seemed really interesting to me that- my word, how talented can you get being able to build bikes to such a high standard AND ride them?!
Wouldn't think many people could have really got too close to Paul Denis when he was at the top of his game!

Man, just look at that retro Pepsi machine in the background Cool Cool Cool Smile

I always thought the bright orange seat covers and plastics looked so cool on TUF Kawasakis.

I had DMC pipe, oval silencer and seat cover on my ‘86 KX-125. Wish I still had it sitting in my garage....

A little older bike than these, but I was trying to build a Penda (Honda CR 125 engine in a Penton 125 frame) a few years back. I whacked up the frame and got started. Then I saw a blurb from Dave Miller about a frame kit and contacted him. After explaining where I was and what I had targeted, Dave took the time to ask for photos of my progress. He called me back and said I "had it". Gave a few pointers and said to give him a shout if I had any struggles. He was very polite, professional and helpful.

My memory might be a bit off, but I think Dave was a factory Penton rider and worked with Donny Emler back in the day when Penton was working with a Hiro motor. They ran out of parts, Dave wanted to race and the Penda was built.

You will now be returned to the original blog...........

In 1987 I decided to go with the TUF Racing vibe on my KX125, as they were more local to me in the mid-west. I had the TUF racing blue radiator shroud (with "TUF" cut out), seat cover and rear shock mods. Also, had their limited edition lime green AXO boots, and AXO pants that were pretty rad back then!

Dave Miller and I have been good friends since the mid-80’s. He built rocket ships out of bikes and still builds some wild bikes. He’s an absolute Motorsports/Metal Craftsman! He’s still in business building some of the coolest bikes out there. He is also one of the funniest people around. When you’ve known someone that long you hear the same stories being told to different people and I don’t care if you’ve heard his stories once or 20 times you’ll still laugh your ass off!
