Are you in Sunset Hills in Oceanside? When we lived in that area I noticed some cz’s in the garage and may have spoken with your son. This was years ago and my apologies if this wasn’t you.

Rex, that KX was probably my favorite bike during my MX years which went from when I was 10 until 50. There were only 2000 made so when I’d go to the local So Cal races I was usually the only green machine on the gate in 1978. It was mostly YZ’s and RM’s. Surprisingly the KX was very competitive against the yellow bikes. It has some engine work by FMF, a front fork kit that got me 1” more of travel and slightly longer shocks to even things out. For my Intermediate skill level it was a very good bike for me. Been trying to get one ever since and they are way too expensive because there were so few made.

These pictures were taken on sacred Indian land in South Palm Springs, close to tahquitz Canyon which was famous for being a hippie hangout in the 60’s-70’s where you could always count on naked hippie girls bathing n the nude. There are pics of the Doors Jim Morrison at Tahquitz Falls. It was a short hike from this track. We had a friend in HS whose parents were pretty high up in the Indian tribe and they allowed him to build a track for him and any of his friends to ride on anytime we wanted. Fenced off area with a combo lock that everyone knew. Some of the factory Suzuki riders would show up there n the late 70’s to train. My clothing attire looks like I had stopped by there after work and most likely it was 110 or so and I didn’t feel like getting leathered up.

No that was not me. I do live close to Sunset Hills though. I had the CZ for several years and did the CALVMX and Rick Doughty vintage races. What a bike! So fun to ride with massive amount of torque and it would turn on a dime. Never broke either. I think n the 3 years I used it if clean the air filter, lube the chain and keep the oil changed when needed. Those bikes were tanks!

I've shown this one a few times before but it's still one of my favorites my Dad shot of me. It's a 78 Yamaha YZ250 down at the river across from ASU in 79.

74 400 Maico.

Unfortunately, doesn't look like it will be mine for too much longer. Need to sell a few bikes after two vehicles crapped out on me in the last month.

1973 Hodaka Wombat...Not an MX bike but still one of the early 70s decent dirt bikes. This model was my first ever motorcycle as a kid so will probably hold on to this for quite some time.

Cool story. Thanks. Yeah so saw all the pictures of Jim by some waterfall. Did you ever meet Jim or just broke into his secret riding spot😬 You are really airing it out on the downhill. Glade you survived the fence post or human skewer at the bottom of the hill.

'81 YZ80. My next door neighbor/best friend got this as his first MX bike for Xmas. At the time I had a '76 YZ80. The jealousy that ensued because this noob had mono shock and I was on an old dual shock was sickening (first world probs). I was the reason he got into dirt bikes. Talk about a pissed off 9 year old! I got him back when I upgraded to a '82 CR80, but regardless the memory of him getting that YZ and rubbing it in my face is imprinted.

I got a Kawa '79 KX250A5 chassis with a '79 KDX400 engine.

And Yam '72 DT2 with a race-kit piston-port barrel so I can race in the Australian 'Pre 70' class.
