I was pretty pumped about him coming over, but as someone already said after getting butt raped in sx its kind of just a waiting game now and nobody knows what to expect. He could come out and ride great or he could get his doors blown off. Honestly neither would surprise me as of now.

I get it hes a motocross guy, but Ive never seen a motocross guy... let alone any factory rider ride EVER ride that bad in my entire life. Ive been watching sx since 1989 and that was the worst showing from a good rider Ive ever seen. Hopefully he does fine, but theres other people to talk about right now vs the lapper with a factory ride... sorry.

Seriously? where have you heard that? He's been in FL at Baker's doing fine training with Tyla and riding with Anderson trying to stay under the radar...just trying to figure out what "American MX tracks" you are talking about since he hasn't raced on any yet....

He’s a good kid and I’m rooting for him. His SX performance took a little wind out of his sail, that’s for sure.

If he's been healthy for a little bit and focusing on just the Nationals I think hes got potential to put in some very good results. Forkner is out and Adam is inconsistent. Many of the best guys moved to the 450's. The field is fairly weak this year with no obvious top dog. Maybe Dylan?

He’s going to do well IMO. I think it’ll take him a few rounds to get everything back clicking, but I think he’ll get a couple podiums and maybe a few Moto wins too. I know the field isn’t super deep in the MX2 class in Europe but the top 10 guys are super fast and Covington was out front a lot with Europe’s elite guys top 5 guys in that class. He’ll be fine IMO.

As soon as he posts some good results outdoors I think it will come. He has us a little gun shy after his SX performance.
Had he had much sx experience before this year?

His supercross results threw everybody off, but the knee injury at least explains why the results were suddenly so lousy after his first race. Since he did well in the GPs, logic says he will do well in ama outdoors, but you never know. He's gonna be mixing it up in a very deep field of very fast and very aggressive riders that don't ride nearly as polite as the guys in the GPs. He will be in his element and what he does best though, so I think it's gonna be clear at Hangtown as to what he's got and how he's gonna do. I don't care how much outdoor experience he has or years of racing mxgp, he better not assume that's gonna mean anything. He better be on it full tilt. I'm sure he will be, but I think he's gonna have to adapt a little at least to the aggressive nature of ama riders. He's a nice kid and.humble, so I'd like to see him do well. He's just got a lot of fast, aggressive guys to beat in order to do well. Maybe he can. We will see. I'm a little more optimistic about Lawrence based on how he rides. Seems to be better suited to ama. I could be wrong though.

By "aggressive", I don't mean faster. I'm talking about the way ama riders make passes and defend against them. Supercross requires aggressive block passes and running it in on your competition in turned in order to get your front wheel ahead of his. In return, you've got to charge into turns hard and inside to keep someone from running it in on you. This kind of stuff carries into the outdoors whether it's beneficial or not. These things result in more bar banging and collisions on average than in the GP series. That's what I'm talking about, and it's something a GP rider isn't as use to. As far as the speed depth, I think it's as deep as it's ever been. There are a lot of guys in the 250 class that are fast. I disagree with you on that part.
Your explanation of SX cornering is exactly why the Euro riders carry a lot more speed in the turns than the US riders. Red Bud is a great example of a track that you have to carry momentum through the turns to really go fast... the L turn / smash a turn, pivot and then hold it wide open crap doesn’t cut it against the Euro riders as Barcia, Tomac & Plessinger found out. Lawrence & Covington will do extremely well outdoors... I would expect they will eventually figure out how to adjust their turns for SX.

I agree the euros have a better flow outdoors because that's all they do, but there were several factors that led to the disappointing results of the u.s. team at Red Bud. It wasn't just a result.of not flowing as well. Dnf in qualifying that led to the worst gate picks possible on a gate they had no clue how to start on, resulting in the worst starts imaginable, inability to set bikes up for those conditions on the fly, etc. Covington said on the podcast with Zach Osborn that he couldn't believe the tires the u.s. guys were running that were more for hard pack. Why the u.s. team was so unprepared I don't know, but that's not how it always is. U.S. riders do a decent job of transitioning to outdoors and riding it well. The results of American riders in usgp events and mxon events in recent years will tell you that they are plenty fast outdoors and can win at any given time against euros. They can flow and haul ass outdoors with the euros. They can hold their own generally, and even get their share of wins. That's pretty damn good considering how much of their time is dedicated to supercross compared to outdoors. I'm not saying the euros aren't badass outdoors. I'm just saying ama riders are too. Not every encounter between ama and euros has been like Red Bud, nor will they be. I don't know how well Covington and Lawrence will do in ama outdoors this season, but I would bet money it won't be any better than they did in the GPs. We will see though.

I don’t think he has been around The SoCal tracks at all, you would think if he was doing well he would come here to the stopwatch nationals instead of riding just in Florida.

I'm not saying that Thomas doing well is a sure thing but seriously who are the favorites? The top guys from last year moved up and with Austin out who are the guys who are going to push him out of the top five? Adam is my guy but who knows what he'll bring. Dylan should be solid. Cooper should be solid. Are the Martin brothers healthy? I think it's a weak field for the first time in years.

Where is the love ??? A guy that could not put 2 motos together in the GP series. Not much love for a guy that can't keep it together and now has 10-12 guys in the US that can win on even given day. Good luck Thomas hope it works out for you.

Who are those 12 that can win on any given weekend in the 250 class?

AC, Cooper, Ferrandis, A mart, Hampshire, Sexton, , Nichols, Lawrence, Mc Elrath, is that enough? Sorry but Covington was not all that in Europe and he will not be all that over here in my opinion.

He won far more motos than TKO and he is leading the point this year over in the GPs. Covington was pretty good the last couple of years. If he comes close to replicating GP success it will be a win for husky.

Well, that was only 9 and included a rider Covington has been able to beat... lol. I guess we’ll find out starting next weekend. He’s a good kid that’ll likely hit the podium and win some motos, but time will tell for sure.
