Story time: JLaw

Anyone have any clue what he's up to these days?? Just read the Meta article... if he's actually still riding and racing in Florida, I'm surprised there aren't more JLaw sighting posts or stories

Just saw a post from his brother on Instagram saying that he’s lost interest in riding. I remember a couple years ago he was posting sick videos of the gnarliest hits at this sand track. Dude was an outlaw. Truly. It’s funny that him and Dungey are literal polar opposites in every regard and probably the furthest extremes the sport has ever seen.

JLaw was great for the sport. Love him or hate him. I don't have any first hand stories, but I was always impressed by his raw speed and talent... that time he showed up to Daytona SX on a 450 and almost won was awesome. I sought him out for an autograph after that ride.

Say what you want about him but he lived his life and handled his career the way he wanted and never compromised himself for others. I may not agree with everything he has done, but I respect him for staying true to himself -- $$ talks and he never changed himself for more money. Some will say he is stupid for not changing, and sure he missed out on some opportunities, but he was rad.

Oh, I remember a story now: Didn't he used to jump a fence to get into one of the So-Cal test tracks? Honda I think?

The night before the Red Bud National maybe 2006/2007 we were in the family camping section, Lot A. At about one or two in the morning we heard a huge crowd cheering over at a campsite. My friends and I walked over there to find J-Law doing a double beer bong by himself getting the crowd all wild out. He then says anyone who wants to come and party, follow him. Being a J-Law fan I was at the time, it was like being with your favorite athlete. We then proceed to Lot-B at Red Bud which is highly secured. He shows his pro pass and says all these people are with me. (Probably 15/20 people) He is then stealing beer out of peoples coolers and then proceeds to get into a fight when someone catches him. The next morning the day of the National, I am excited to go into the pro pits with my pit pass and see how he is feeling. His bike isnt even out on display and the team is doing a lot of whispering.

I've read or heard that same story before. I believe he figured out a spot to jump over the fence into one of the factories private test tracks. He would then jump back over the fence when he was done spinning laps.

Daytona '08. Friday night before the insane mud race we're chillin in the lobby bar at the hotel. In walks J-Law and crew. His crew heads up to the bar and J-Law comes and takes a seat right in the middle of my group of buds and starts shootin' the shit. All is cool.

Meanwhile, a couple of his buddies are running an elaborate distraction on the bartender while another one is behind the bar just grabbing bottle after bottle of liquor and stuffing them in a bag.

Once his friends are done, J-Law excuses himself from our group after being super cool and normal. He stands up, grabs the floor lamp next to him, puts his foot in the middle of the post and snaps the fucker in half. Says "see you dudes later", and walks right out.

Later that night we're on the bridge headed down to main street and a car flies by us with a dude fully out the window woohooing as they go by. J-Law with a bottle in hand.

Legendary.

If Feld, NBC and the rest of the hard asses in the industry freak out over CBD oil they would all have heart attacks if JLaw was still around.

It happened, he took off with A-class instead of waiting. He didn't beat Barry Carsten that day though. A parent tried to protest him the next year when he was in B class because of it.

A lot of guys give him crap but he did some cool things. In Jacksonville 09, tyler whartons bike blew up first practice and Jlaw let him ride one of his YZ250Fs that night.

Anyone ever heard the one about him doing Ecstasy before the East/West main event in Vegas, the year he won his 250SX title?

I re - watched 'The Motocross Files' Brad Lackey DVD a few days ago.

In the extended interviews section, a few stories were gone into more deeply than the half hour TV version. Things like a brawl in the pay off tent, and his dissatisfaction with Ohlins, that was ignored by Kenth - until Brad took it to the back of the Ohlins truck, drenched it with petrol, and, set it on fire........

Brad mentioned Jason Lawrence, with a fair bit of chuckling, regarding him as a rank amateur, when it came to highjinks.

We live in the Internet age . Every damned thing is picked up on. Most of the "old school guys" did stuff that JLaw would now be much more heavily criticized and sanctioned for. He'd have got away with his foolishness way back when, but not in his time. He blew quite a career by being a bloody drongo.

I do recall, I think correctly, that He donated the largest, or near to the largest, sum to the fund for Magoo's new truck, just prior to Magoo's death. That left an impression on me.

Good, at least someone can validate my story. I remember him battling with Damien riding a Honda 450, and Jason on his supermini I admit remembering what classes are a bit foggy. All we need is for Plotts to join in on this thread to keep me honest.

I wasn't being rude by any means. I raced Jlaw a lot at that time in supermini and 85 14-15s, I had just never heard of them splitting with big bikes.

One would have collapsed faster if they had to pay Dungey what their contract stipulated....it was almost all win bonuses.

Yup, I believe he pulled off from the main because he was tripping out.

There’s also the one where he ran into a team’s rig and stole a radiator for someone else.

When he was too sick to ride GH 450 opener the one year and he was actually just hanging out o the hill side drinking beer, smoking weed, and ran onto the track at one point to cheer Josh Hill on.

One of his mechanics has some pretty good stories about how many races they knew he flew to but then couldn’t find him come Race day.

Ohh and when he flipped the rental car the deposit for it got yanked out of his mechanic’s account because it was under his name.

I think there’s one podcast that’s gonna rope him in finally. At least from what I was told it’ll be soon.

Not sure the year, but a Johnny on the spot was lit on fire after a district race at Englishtown. Multiple people said it was Jlaw's doing.

That is exciting news.

I wonder who it will be... Inside Line? DMXS? Pulp? Whiskey Throttle? Main Event Moto?

Kenny Watson resurrects his podcast for a one-off with JLaw?

More than a few times on superminis at redbud they ran a dual gate with a big bike class. It happens quite often here
Ive seen it Happen in Minnesota where they dropped a 40+ class
And Right behind it an 80cc class in the 90's and there was a fast Girl on a YZ80
That passed all the 40+ guys i would think there may be some embarrassment
But she was real fast and her parents owned the track.

No, it's all good! I was racing one of the big bike squid classes, so I remember watching it all go down in awe.

That was at Budds Creek and I was watching. It was one of the craziest things I have seen. I mean what goes through this dude's mind? It would be weird for an amateur to do that, not to mention a pro competing in a professional event.
