Is the era of American superstar over?

McGrath
Carmichael
Villopoto
Stewart
Dungey

During the above era, the USA was so dominant in the MXoN. At roughly the same time that the US ceded the fastest superstar recognition (to Cairoli and Herlings), we began a strange losing streak in the Olympics of Motocross.

I don't see any superstars on the way up in American Motocross currently--like Carmichael, Stewart, Villopoto, Dungey, etc. Are there some on the horizon? What am I missing?

There is 3 kids in the amateurs that will dominate mx for the next ten years when they move up, and two of them have the personalities to be superstars.

Tough to say who's going to transition to the 450 really well. Dungey won titles but wasn't a straight up destroyer on 250's but transitioned amazingly to the 450. Maybe AC will fulfill his "prophecy" and be an all timer on a 450. That said Prado sure seems like he gonna dominate the scene for the foreseeable future. So my answer is no, its gonna be awhile before an American is the FMOTP again

Styles Robertson, Jett Reynolds will move up in a year and then Max Vohland, all three have superstar speed and personality.

The next big RC type guy imo will be Ryder Defancesco.

An era is over because Anderson got injured and didn't win consecutive titles?
Who is going to stop Webb from going on a run the next 3-4 years? He gets great starts, rarely makes mistakes, is mentally tough and fast as heck. He is your next superstar.

I’m not sure I’m sold on Hunter, he didn’t show to much speed last year in the GPs.

Webb is too vanilla to be a true superstar.

I don’t know who Baby Jesus is.

In reality, it’s hard to say who will have a successful transition. It is becoming easier to see because the teams don’t necessarily look for the fastest kid at that point anymore, they look for personality traits and work ethic too.

A lot of people thought he would come in the pro ranks and start racking up titles after titles after being very dominant as an amateur but that wasn't the case.

Glad he's finally putting things together as I'm an AC fan.

That was the case ! He was leading that 2014 250 Sx series before getting hurt ! He could have won that title easily but injuries killed his momentum. I believe he is in the right spot now, go for the MX title this summer, shine at the MXON and move up !

Also Forkner with more maturity will destroy everything next year in the 250 class.

Speaking of the amateurs, i don’t see Stylez Robertson as the next big thing. IMO i count four as of right now: Jett Reynolds / Max Vholand / Ryder Di francesco / Jett Lawrence

I think Deegan will dominate in SX, not sure about MX. The kid is really fast for sure, his SX skills are unbelievable.

I think had it not. Even for so many injuries, he probably would have.

AC has been pro for quite a while now. He debuted in the 2013 nationals. This is the first year he has shown a bit of
maturity. Every time he would get passed or pressured, he would freak out and crash. He still had issues last year. Outdoors will be a big test for him. With Forkner out, he is my pick to kick everyone’s ass.

Greatness often comes down to how many times these guys get hurt. AC could have been great already but the injuries have ruined that so far. RV2 won five 250 titles.

Forkner has been hurt a lot already too. Not good so far. Getting hurt sets them back so much and for a long time.

Look at Webb the last two years. Hurt both years and thus looked bad. This year, no injuries. If Cooper avoids the injuries he is the next superstar for sure.

Ryder D is good he comes across as a true kid. Reynolds is injured again? Styles is going to be the dark horse.
I've never seen any emotion out of Reynolds he comes across as very boring and bland but i've been told otherwise which is good.

Dominate? I actually watched his SX Futures video and he was a step behind the fastest kids in his class.

Only had three heroes, Hannah, Bradshaw and JS7.

Twist and grip dudes....f’ing entertaining when they not hurt. Really need the “it” factor too.

Takes a lot elements to make a “hero”....looking for a new one. Nothing yet. Respect sure, hero is next level.

there are so many international riders coming through are going to be a serious threats come future times;
- The Lawrence brothers
- Jo Shimoda
- Liam Everts
- Bailey Malkiewicz

The whole "American Superstars" status, i see coming through in time that have that edge to them would be Jalek Swoll and Ryder Defancesco. Two guys who carry them selves as likeable people as well as being marketable with their personality.

Dungey proved that you don't have to enter the pro's crushing everyone to be a "superstar" in this sport.
