Maico Comeback?

I heard a rumor that KTM/Husky is going to buy the Maico & bring them back!

Basically going to be a KTM/Husky setup, but with a completely different radical engine & plastics.

2 strokes will use the 86' Maico engine, Its the same engine manufacturer that the Sidecar MX guy's use.

ROFL... I'm an old school moto guy and love the old Maico's. The '81 Mega 2 490 is one of the all time great bikes.

But it's a pipe dream to think anyone would put that kind of effort in.

So, we'll chalk this one up to another April Fool's.... Wink

In Math class, we learned if you take tree fiddy and add tree fiddy, you get Seven Hundo.
If you divide 7 Hundo by 2 strokes, it tells you they should allow tree fiddy 2 strokes.

The 86 Maico 500 mxer was watercooled,the enduro model kept the aircooled cylinder (I had an Mstar mx version),maybe Mr. Fosters bike is an interesting hybrid? The Zabel sidecar motors are typically 700 cc I believe, not what I'd want to hang on to or crank on a regular basis! After the last Maico revival went under around 2006 it remains for Koestler in Germany to manufacture "new" Maico's on a custom order basis. They are a large KTM dealer so who knows? Meanwhile I'll continue on the latest resto, an 84 500 sc. Nice try bigmaico, April fools to you as well!

You could order the '86 in AC version, iirc was for out west...

JF goes well on his....got to take it out for a few laps awhile back. Rode the '75 Bul 200 'Sang for about 10 laps last weekend...and only caught 275 false neutrals

ps- if they bring them back will they still break all the time and have those turd Bing carbs ? j/k H :-)

My 86 is a SC model...the "scrambler" model in 86, and they were air cooled. It has a different serial number prefix than the other 86 models. They probably called it that to use up all of the air cooled parts to then make only water cooled.

Getting it ready to DeSoto and Diamond Don's last night and snapped the fork pinch part of the fork leg. But.....Randy Porter has already welded it up for me, so I should be good to go now.

Rhett is not telling the whole story about riding my bike a few weeks ago. I think his favorite bike, ever, was an 85 Maico. He did a few laps on the 86 and was throwing whips, nose wheelies, knack knacks, scrubbing the jumps, having a big old time.....because it is so easy to do on a Maico. Smile

The only thing I would add to this is Time your 490 @ 1.8 mm btdc.

It will kick back less.

I never name ANY of my bikes but my 81 490 became known as Oleg. Because that is what is said every mofo time the mofo is tried to get mofo started. LMMFAO
It is better after I had the Motoplat worked on tho.

Why, MAICO never left. Sometimes, if you’re really lucky, when you flip the switch in the bathroom to clear the air, you might be turning on a MAICO.
