I do often whine about all the negativity on this forum. I will admit that for sure. I am a positive person though and I just don’t like the slamming of the riders and other personalities. I just don’t see the point. These guys are giving it their all. I really don’t dislike any of them.

The broadcast overall is fine. I only wish they could stop saying “he made a bobble” , just sounds like something that happens to hillbillies on their quads not to pro riders on a supercross track.

I caught Ricky saying "He made a small mist...bobble."

Just say mistake.

I like the new team. Ricky is funny in his own way and entertaining IMO. When Colt Nichols comes out sounding like Cold Nipples I’m there for it. Heck even the wife is enjoying the races this year.
*shrug*
Maybe someone knows if the camera people are contracted and are the same group as when Fox sports was producing. I think the production crew would be to blame if action is being missed, not the camera crew or broadcasting team.

I'm pretty sure Sheheen mentioned that a lot of the guys that worked for FOX were hired by NBC. I think the majority of the workers is the same crew (producers/camera crew/etc.)

I've been in quite a few production trucks and I feel like they would be better served if they added another director; get someone to watch the broadcast live and throw suggestions to the director when they're spending too much time on lesser important things happening on the track.

Also, the amount of "picture in picture" stuff we're getting is excessive and poorly designed. The amount of unused screen during those moments is nothing short of awful. Hey "lets show the replay on the big box and the actual battle going on in the small one".

Edit: If anyone at Vital wants to hook me up with someone that I can pitch that job, I have quite a bit of experience doing said job for various other niche sports.

Cracked up in the 250 LCQ when Ricky was talking about Champion and said,
"If everything goes good in the next couple of laps, we'll see him in the main event, so that will be (really long pause) nice?" Laughing Laughing Laughing

The funniest line one of the night was Ralph talking about the pressure Brayton was facing from Musquin.

Ralph said something along the lines of "Justin Brayton is really feeling him coming on the inside."

RC said "rode well" several times and corrected himself after saying "good". It was the miracle I had been waiting for, for over a decade.

IT WAS WONDERFUL.

I thought they did good at A2, Oakland was about as far in the other direction you could get.

Also, Jim Holley knows more about every rider on the gate than the whole night crew put together.

My god - the broadcast quality is in the shitter.

Screamin' Ralf and Bumblin' RC are just sloppy as hell.

If RC could just get Enzo LOPEZ I mean Lopes' name correct. Between him and Ralf they can not for the life of them get the rider names from p5 on back and just use generic 'another rider down..' blah blah commentary. It is the same group of riders EVERY WEEK. They act like it is 44 dudes they just got introduced to every damn race.

How hard would it be for Feld/NBC Sports greedy bastards those get those guys a spotter or two in the booth to assist their oblivious asses with catching action on the floor vs coming back :30 after "Oh looks like Eli had trouble, wonder what hapoened there??" DUDE you have the best seat in the house, at least 3 monitors in your booth and two producers in your ear. WTF.

With the tape delay they had 16 hours or so to edit out the errors, but nope, those that had to wait to see it were able to experience the same issues all you with the gold package experienced...

I watched the ticker alot. Webbs lead over Musquin was going from 1 sec to .8 to .4 and they were showing Plessinger outside the top 5 trying to close a bigger gap on whoever.

No Fro? Apparently NBC wanted to shake up the broadcast team, which meant popular Supercross TV host Jeff Emig was out of a gig without warning. Funny no info from google , red hat problem ? ...

I try not to complain about the broadcast because I always thought that Emig did a great job. Well spoken, smart and able to explain the technicalities of the sport to casual fans.

Ricky, on the other hand, is the GOAT, but sounds very homeschooled. Ironic, I know.

Weigant and Langston on the other hand, make you feel like if you cracked a beer on the couch you'd be bench racing with them..... and somehow they pull it off as sounding legit.

With a new model there’s always some testing to be done before you’re confirtable. They should try some different clamps and such

I've been binging on mid 90s too early 2000s races (again) and I more than ever miss having a good booth duo. Art made mistakes, but was ALWAYS on point with calling the action as it happened. Also, no one has forgotten the ever exciting "bar to bar we go!". What has Ralph coined? "Breathing down his tail pipe!" ... Yikes. Also, what happened to stats? Art had at least a page of notes for every race with every record imaginable (manufacturer wins, streaks, a rider's first win there, etc). He did his homework and even had his own insight to add from sitting down with riders during the week or press day or whatever.

And then there's Bailey... Such insight and knowledge. Every technique used, equipment used, the mentality behind the decisions the riders were making on and off the track. He knew exactly which lines were best and where passes could/would be made. So in depth! He knew it all! And him and Art bounced off of each other perfectly.

I know RC is new, but I don't have hope for him and Ralph at all. Unless both of these guys start putting in the work during the week to get inside info and have in depth understanding, it will never be good. RC should already be observant enough to pick up on techniques and lines better. Spill the knowledge!

One other thing I'll mention as far as camera work goes... Watch those mid 90s to early 2000s races. Whenever the camera work wasn't in the right place, Bailey almost always brought the attention back to the action. He knew what was going on, made the call and essentially forced the director to follow it. Hell, Art even subtly brought the focus back to the action... Mentions of crowd cheering or "something is happening up front".

They should just have Vitards do the announcing via Skype since everyone in here is the experts. Instead of hiring Ricky they should have scouted talent in here since this is where it's all at.

I've noticed the heck out of it and I'm usually tolerant of minor flaws. Whoever the director in the truck is doesn't seem to have a decent grasp of racing. Too many times you're left wondering (for a good while) what the crowd just saw that you didn't. Sometimes they'll even switch away from a battle that, as a racer, you can tell is going to heat up in the next section or turn.

I don't know if NBC supplies the production crew or if Feld does. I'd guess Feld. Whoever it is needs to have a talk with the director or park someone that knows racing next them in the truck.

Here to whine.

I watched the races on NBC Sports Gold and it sucks ass. Everything is great until the mains. When the mains are going and the racing starts to get good, the app freezes and I have to restart the browser like 50 times to get it to come back. By then, the race is half over. But, I won't stop buying this dumb shit, because Im stupid and impatient.

I don't think he should be fired or anything, but I caught Ricky in two math errors for the night. I don't remember the first one, but the second one was at the end of the 450 main:

Ralph: "Well, let's see where they are on lap times, because Marvin looks to be gaining on Cooper. Yep, a 55.6 for Webb and a 55.1 for Musquin!"
Ricky: "Yeah, he gained six tenths on Webb that lap!"
Unsure

Grinning Grinning Grinning He'll get better.

Art had a voice that always reminded me of a cross between Mean Gene Okerlund and an auctioneer - he was, as you stated, very good at his job.

i fast forward through literally everything BUT the heats and mains so i can't say much for the entire broadcast, but the Oakland round was particularly tough to sit through. either i'm getting old and agitated or they really are that bad.
