Shorty got 9th today and is sitting in 10th overall. He is off to a better start than last year.

I thought the consensus was that dunes is going to make the navigation easier for the riders who are following as the tracks won't be hidden by brush or rocks?

I f'n love Dakar! If you consider yourself a fan of moto and a gearhead, you are doing yourself a disservice by not following Rally....the machinery and race craft are second to none in motorsports. Simply an amazing sport in every aspect. Bikes, cars, trucks...ALL ARE AWESOME!

How do I post a photo?

Baja Rally made a great Facebook post about Brabec's strategy today and why it was such a damn good ride!

Go Ricky go! WE ARE BEHIND YOU!!

An American Dakar victory is something that many bad ass dudes have been pushing towards for a LONG time, Ricky bringing it home would be a culmination of ALL their work.

On advrider.com, at least one of the (seriously into the event) posters there wrote that that footage was prior to the start of the event. Nonetheless, it's seriously Gonzo!

The speed the top runners go is mind boggling. Hell, mid and back packers are going incredibly quick considering the terrain, that they've not seen, and only know of from the Road Book and their notations.

I follow the event, but nowhere near as assiduously ( well, fanatically) as many others do. They really get into the nuances of the whole thing over on ADVRider, and a whole bunch of other Dakar / Rallie sites.

There's a Paraplegic bloke doing the event this year - think of the sort of set up Doug Henry uses to ride. He has 3 'Helpers / Wingmen' to take care of him. An incredibly difficult job for Him, And, his Helpers.

Robbie Gordon is there, and as ever, his entry / He is 'controversial'. It looks to me he's tried to get past the SXS speed limit (and, his / his other drivers SXS's are bloody big, in that they may not fit SXS rules anyway) by going into the Car class, but still retain the SXS fuelling rules, which enables SXS's to have extra fuel stops over the Cars - thus carrying far less fuel / weight than the Cars. So, six of one, half a dozen of the other, I reckon. You don't want the speed limit that SXS's have, you forgo the lighter fuel load, and 15 minute (I think that's it) 'grace / non included time' fuel stops. Rubbie does Entertain, and, he's started to bleat about the speed limit his vehicles are subjected to, and, how he'd be winning it all ......

If you are in the US, they have a daily 30 minute recap show on NBCSN everyday at 3:00pm Pacific. They cover the leaders and the top US riders/Drivers. They have had 2 episodes so far.

My brother is part of the Casey Currie team.

Chaos today.

Barreda is out.

Walkner and Brabec both lost 20+ minutes trying to navigate.

Sounds like Barreda got stuck in a basin in the dunes and couldn't get going again.

Toby Price... that's all that needs to be said.

One of the toughest guys to throw a leg over a motorcycle or get behind the wheel of a truck.

Some people on Social Media are saying Ricky stopped to help Barreda and he still quit. If that's true, its bullshit and it's time for Honda to fire Barreda...

Barreda is too weak for a Dakar ace. Only way to stop is mechanical/injury or total exhaustion/dehydration.

Haven't seen it mentioned in an article that Brabec stopped to help, so maybe Social Media was wrong....imagine that!

Kind of weird interview too... Are we just to assume the bike is toast? He looked fine.

Barreda just backed up shortys comments on pulp show saying honda guys dont work as a team and are all too focused on trying for indivdual win. Barreda could of kept going as the teams water boy like ktm would have done.
