There’s already a whiskey throttle motocross podcast by Kurt Lucas based out of Florida. Get a different name.
Tried contacting the guy and he never replied. I think we'll stick with what we've got but thanks for your concern.

The more good motocross podcasts the better. The Decoster one was a perfect start. I’m a fan.

It's super-difficult, dude. First you have to locate this weird website called Youtube.
Then you have to find some way to play it. I tried this button with a sideways triangle on it.

Actually..

Goddamn, every word that Roger DeCoster utters is like a motocross salve for your soul. Everything is good in the Universe when the Man is speaking.

Ummmmm, didn't that happen in 2018? Thanks for the reply though and the extra effort with the embed.

What I'm looking for is the Jan 5 2019 live feed of the show with Rick Johnson, unless I'm mistaken. We were hoping to fill some time tonight before SX tomorrow.

Well, shit. I guess I'm the one behind the times. You're like the rascally dude I didn't see behind me that passed on the outside on the sweeper, Bro!
I'm all about some RJ lore too! Point me at the goodness!

Listening from Australia Ping. Its good to see 2 good bad boys of the sport hosting this. Keep em coming!
Roger came to a friends house for a beer and a BBQ back in about 09.. we sank cans in the shed and had a good chat, that memory will last forever.

Between this show, and Pulp MX do we even need any others?
Ping and GL have something great here! outside of the personality and the comedy they bring together, their passion for the sport and respect for the past are second to none. Well done!

ain't that the truth. The things he has seen and experienced.....we are going to be a bunch of sad suckers when he passes and no one has captured all he has to talk about.

My kingdom for an all encompassing book from The Man - or an oral history.

Wish I had the money and the skills and the access to pull it off

One question I would like answered by all the old guys would be "Are there any riding techniques/skills you used that you don't see on the track today?"
Several years ago I was lucky enough to visit Roger at his home, on business. Onthe outside I was Mr "I'm in my late 50s and nothing phases me" mode. Inside I was 13 again, when I saw him for the first time at Puyallup Raceway Park Trans-Am.

Anyway, we were sitting around the island in his kitchen after finishing up and just talking. Finally I said "Can I ask you a question about riding technique?"

"Sure"

"I was an OK local expert, but didn't get to the next level. What would you say is the one thing that kept guys like me from becoming more like guys like you?l"

He paused, then said "Well, no one has ever asked me that before..." then thought some more.

Finally he says (and imagine this in Roger's accent) "I think that you do not stand up enough."

long pause....

"That's it?" (I said incredulously)

"Yes. I am on Ryan all the time to stand up more"

"Ryan...as in Dungey?"

"Yes. He will be here tomorrow. You can come back tomorrow and ask him yourself if you want."

Cracked me up.

Had we had that exchange when I met him as a star struck 13 year old, I would have ran home right then, removed the seat from my TM125 and never used it again...and things might have been different for my so called motocross career.

Great podcast, boys.
Just listened to the Decoster Whiskey Throttle show, and was SHOCKED by that news. MC had a Honda throttle assembly on this Suzuki race bike that was only pulling the slide up 3/4 way in the carb!!! Then also the missing bearing in the clutch assembly of his race bike causing it to not completely disengage! WOW!

One thing they do is NOT hold back on asking the difficult questions. As a fan, I really appreciate that. If the rider being interviewed doesn't want to answer, I would respect that too, but at least they ask the hard questions.

Very cool!

Perfect question. That is THE question I’ve always had.

So, just stand up more. Hmmm.

well, I am sure that there are other techniques we never figured out that would come next, but it was like "You all need to stand up more, then you can learn the rest. He was very thoughtful, which I thought was very cool. He actually gave the spodes question some respect and thought.

And still I sit - lol

I'm coming off a long downtime for variosu physical ailments, but intend to get back into some riding this spring on my new property. The first thing I intend to do...take my seat off and do all my riding around the property standing up. Good for technique, and will strengthen my legs, which I desparately need.

What I would give to attend a school with him as the instructor.

Thank you Ping and GL
Thank you for the good work. Love to have the guests expand and tell us stories.
Other podcasts often have this redundant " uhuh.. uhuh.." which is not necessary when the guest is talking. I really appreciate how Ping gets the guest to speak and only interjects to develop further. AND bring the guest back onto the unfinished topic when they get side tracked.
Awesome listens.
I keep dreaming about having Jody Weisel on the show. I even sent him a LONG pleading email.
No responses.
I tried explaining to him the format of podcasts. So many racers I used to hate as a kid because of their image...podcasts have changed my perception of them!! podcasts can be timeless and more exposure than obscure articles in the archives...
Jody has a degree in old people studies, oh the irony if he does not give us a chance...

Any chance to get Herlings some day?
cheers
