Most people simply have no idea about the deathbed that European GP motocross is on. They make the weird analogy that, because the talent is there and the racing is good, the series itself should be thriving.
I give huge props to Suzuki for finally saying 'enough is enough' and leaving the GP's. Sadly it's the only way a real difference can be made. Riders themselves simply don't have enough pull (read: money invested) to make a change.
And even more frustratingly, as seen in the great new Troy Adamitis series 'MXworld', Luongo is already passing stuff on to his son, which doesn't spell any change for maybe decades to come.
Scroll on a few years and there's a world series that very few are earning money from (as the farts predicted), and seems tilted towards snuffing out careers when the music stops at the end of each year and the dwindling team places get snapped up - mostly by guys who have to bring money to a team instead of getting paid by them. Yes, there's a handful of top guys doing well, but there's nothing behind them. No money, no support, nothing.
The current level of the top GP riders is in spite of YS, not because of it.. The results of hard work and talent from guys like Herlings and Cairoli shouldn't be used as something for YS to hide behind.
MXGP has enormous depth, it's not just down to AC & JH.
The depth of 10th to 20th is also very strong.
The MX2 world champ beat Tomac, after most on Vital thought the MX2 was a level behind 250 AMA. Guessing he lapped Plessinger.
The GP's are strong through because the pyramid system works.
Yes fly aways are expensive & a pain in the arse for most, but its a world series looking to evolve into new territory.
It just seems to me some people are hard wired into negative thinking, especially regarding world mx.
If we looked in Feld past with a microscope do you think it would be squeaky clean ??

remember MX Trax.. it was their pro YS stance that saw all the posters that were worth reading get banned.. and funnily enough, when they left , it collapsed.
The real question is: for whom???
I remember the "world series looking to expand" excuses being thrown around 5, 10, 15 years ago when the money to riders dried up, and races started being given to any country willing to cough up the backhanders...sorry; license fee. How many of the flyaway races from a few years ago are still on the schedule?
You're saying "wait and see" while forgetting you were saying the same thing years ago. How much longer..?
As for "the pyramid system works"... as in; have a glut of fast riders all reaching 23 then throwing 75% of them off the World scene and out of a job/back into domestic series, because of a ridiculous age limit that kills careers, and has just been made 10x worse with the changes to EMX250.?
How many riders have just lost jobs in the EMX series because they are suddenly too old? Hey, they can go to MX2!! Oh wait, that's U-23 only too...
Im not saying wait & see. YS manages the fastest & deeped classes in MX period.
There is not a series that offers anything like the standard the GP's offer. MXGPTV is producing media coverage at the highest quality we have ever seen.
Open you eyes & look at whats happening presently. Fly aways are a compromise, but in general GP's are stacked & deep. Stop moaning about corruption & just enjoy the modern era.
Privateers at world level is history for a whole host of reasons. It's a quality over quantity model now & its working.
Look at the lap times the classes are deep with talent, because thats what a strong series produces.
Before I ignore you further, tell me:
What are the reasons privateers are not welcome?
What benefits have YS brought to GP's that weren't already there?
Fly aways are only available to factory riders, is that fair?
Are you seeijngh the best riders, or only who can afford it?
Are you not concerned about wher our sport pitches up and what regimes we are associated with?
Quality over quantity, what a facile and stupid comment, you are truly an idiot if you think that, how do you measure quality if you are only taking what you are given and the poorer riders are excluded?
Have you ever ben to a GP ever??? I have been to plenty over the years, and if you think Qatar and Indonesia are gret Gp's comared to Namur and Gaildorf, then you truly know nothing about our sport
Yes Ive been to many GP's & MXON.
I just think your taking a negative view of the GP's, and are looking back with rose tinted specs.
The days of driving around racing the worlds best is gone. Technology costs, fuel costs etc are all different.
Nowadays the model is media focus, the big teams do well, the privateers stay domestic/emx. Its not rocket science.
Stop trying to bring back the past, it will never happens.
If the corruption is that blatent, just inform the relevant authorities, move on.
What other porkies/generalisations are you making and stating as fact, Pinocchio?
Media coverage? Do you mean expensive pay per view, or the Motors TV coverage that has now gone, leaving no mainstream coverage? You know; the kind of coverage YS supporters were promising for years.?
I'm sure guys trying to find ways of funding a team getting to the flyaway GPs will be relieved to hear they're just a compromise. A compromise for what by the way? Proper tracks?
Why is it okay for "privateers to be history"? You're in a very small minority with that one.
As for "stop moaning about the corruption and enjoy the modern era"...…. Jeeeezzz…. I have no words to say about that. Except maybe that it's that "see no evil, as long as it looks good" attitude is why the world is going to hell in a handcart right now. Absolutely speechless...

Besides that Youthstream asks so much money for the TV rights that one after another channel is stopping with broadcasting.
We have the worldchampion here in The Netherlands but you can';t see the GP's on TV.....
Then they make 'old' riders go race a two stroke, well that really sounds like a company who is looking at the future. If you love the sport you should ban twostrokes and start an electric bike class or something. Like Formula E.. Not a fan of these electric bikes myself but it is the future, no matter what.
Seems to be a shit show with how YS started it all, but, again, if you have any insight to how big deals are made it is not that uncommon to create grey zone incentives for people that can make it happen.
There is no comparison between 1980,1990,2000 and todays level of professionalism. With the entry classes anyone can step in and ride. Not everyone should be allowed to race in the premium classes.
90% of B and C-practice in SX in US is a joke and you could just take that out and have 2 seeded groups and instead provide a amateur platform like MXGP is doing.
Start an electric class? Which vendors would be in that one and put up money to race a class? Alta that has no cash? Wake up.
The streaming always works flawless, in HD without shitty compression or delays like the SX stuff in US.
Apart from the fact that Eurosport in the UK only show the MXGPs when they feel like it. If just about any other sport is live at the time, (snooker, horse riding, whatever) then they drop MXGP on the spot, and then maybe show it at some time later. Even when they do its normally only 1 race live and the others on delay. Its just not reliable coverage.
What I like about the current mxgp system:
- The EMX65, 85, 125 and 250 classes. I agree that they have to be age limited to push the most talented riders to the world championship. Age rule of 23 for the emx is a good one. Someone stated that the national championships are ruined, but I think that it is a good thing for these riders to have some experience on the GP tracks before heading to the big leagues.
- The paddock look and professionalism. I think it gives a good image for the GP's to have a professional setup like this.
- The MXON.
- The experiments with superfinal, SMX cup, YZ125 cup, EMX150 cup etc. They try new things and sometimes trying these changes are good. If you never try, you never know.
What i dont like about the current mxgp system
- Age limit on the MX2 class. Even though the level of MXGP is really high, i don't think there should be such a career ruiner for the lighter riders. Guys like Roelants, Butron, Searle, Paturel, Guillod and many more had their career ruined by this stupid rule. A 2 stroke class is a joke for these guys.
- The amount of oversea races. I understand that it is a world championship, so having a few oversea races is understandable. But having 6 or more oversea races really is a big cut to the budgets, even for factory teams. As long as these teams wont do anything about it (apart from Suzuki), there won't be any changes soon. One of the reasons riders have to bring money with them is because of the huuuuge logistical costs these teams have to cover. It is really simple, A rider like JVH can ride for free, but if they have to pay him 300k in salary on top of it they won't be able to contest for a year in MXGP. It's just a shame that there are other riders that ride for free to just have a seat.
- Start money. If i ride a local race i understand that i have to pay start money, but if a rider at these races can make more money in a local race in Belgium (500 euro's a day), why would he contest all of these GP's AND having to pay 100k a year to race them.. The last episode of mxworld about Turkey did show how unhealthy the current situation is. But as i stated, as long as the factory teams keep accepting how things are going on at the moment, nothing will change. If they aren't carefull, things will look like F1, where less talented guys (i dont say they dont have any talent at all) with a very rich daddy can drive at the highest elite championship there is.
Don't get me too wrong, I LOVE going to GP's and love the atmosphere, but it has its flaws.
"Nowadays the model is media focus, the big teams do well, the privateers stay domestic/emx. Its not rocket science. "
Unfortunatley that statement is incorrect. The reality is that the big teams don't do well because the 'media focus'' and with that sponsorship value it is not sufficient enough to cover the increased costs to participate. And that is not increased costs due to normal inflation, but increased costs due to charges by YS, more races and more overseas races without any financial support.
The story of YS was we will move to a model like F1 or MotoGP where MXGP is available to only selected professional teams, and YS will ensure that there will be substantial media exposure increase that makes it attractive for these teams to participate. That is just not the case. There isn't enough money for top 10 riders to get a ride. MXGP winners like Anstie, van Horebeek, Nagl, Bobryshev etc. have to ride for peanuts to keep a ride. There is no Suzuki or TM factory team in mxgp. MX2 is basically KTM&Husqvarna factory team and a bunch of private teams. With all riders with no salary except the couple of golden boys (the Prado's).
I'm sure that sponsors are really excited about those numbers...
Srb gone would be a great start. My blood has boiled every bloody time I see him up on the podium, on the screen, or when I've been at races myself, seeing him acting like Zod himself. Well, more correctly, acting like the right hand man of the Devil
It's great to see the MXGP Action group re-surface. I thought they'd either been litigated out of existence, or they'd been summarily dealt with, by those that should not be named........
I wonder how long this iteration of 'them' will remain available to show details of the corruption that has, and still is, going on?
