And yeah, I hope Eli gives him a nice cut for that!
As cool as it was to see Eli and that kid both win a million, it really doesn't help the sport at all to have the race leader let second place by to secure the victory. Bookmakers will look badly upon this as if races can and will be fixed by the teams/competitors. It made for great TV seeing some kid from the stands make some bank, but overall I was yelling at my TV because of it. I didn't lose a million dollars, but I did lose on out seeing what a racer will do to a teammate for a million dollar payday.
It was a thrilling lead up to a really blah ending for anybody watching the race. Although I did yell at the TV, so I guess I was a little excited, just for the wrong reason.

As for Tomac though, I’m sure he was frustrated. I’m sure his comments both last year and the year before that criticized “race fixing” were running through his mind after Joey moved over.
Not his fault though. What was he supposed to do? Just slow up more and let Joey win?

I think this industry has lost its way. When people voiced their dismay on Vital that major races are now blatantly thrown, industry people are at the ready to ridicule and insult them. Stuff like this was such a huge controversy at the Rodil Cup years ago, or when Jeff Emig raced the nights went out in Vegas. Now there seems to be a recognition that it's all one big Monster Energy commercial and "just shut up and enjoy it."
From the article. This doesn't exactly portray Supercross as the pinnacle of human competition:
After the race someone asked Tomac how much of the million dollars he was going to give to Savatgy.
“No comment,” Tomac said without irony or facial expression.
Savatgy’s comment on the press dias after the race was more prescient: “At the end of the day we are a team.”
It’s unclear if there actually were team orders, as happened only a week ago in Formula 1, or if Savatgy simply was doing a favor for a friend. I tracked him down after the press conference and asked the following, “Were you still racing all the way to the end?”
“Yeah, of course, absolutely,” Savatgy said.
So there you go, the perfect end to a perfect event that was, maybe, too perfectly played out.
The 17-round 2019 Monster Energy Supercross season kicks off January 5 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California.
I need a drink.
I don't really care in either situation, but that's nonsense.
but its so lame to follow me around and dislike my post and mak these childish cmments etc .. thats sad dude or kid
Now whether it was right or wrong,..meh. I can definitely see why some people aren’t happy about it, but it was a happy ending for a one-off race
