If M M never goes this route, what do some of you think about MillCreek? I’ve never been to MillCreek and know very little other than seeing the Davy Milsap Spring Classic bring in a lot of good Amature riders. AP ripped that track up good. But watching from video only, the jumps look like they need work? Any riders know anything on their site?

M M has the space. They’re have to work it for parking in that area. Depends how much they want to host an event. I know they could get it done. MillCreek has held a large number of riders and Rigs at the Spring Classic. That’s the only two tracks I know of in Alabama capable.

Hey Heath, I used to race with your Uncle Furman when I was up in the Birmingham area in the early/mid-70's. I lived in South Alabama (Florala) but had a cousin in Trussville so I always brought my bikes up and we would go to Warrior, Concord, and Alabaster to race. I remember the early days when Furman was sponsored by Dixie Cycle Supply.

Monster Mountain has a new owner who seems to be putting some money into the place so perhaps it will get another look soon. I would sure like to see Alabama get a race so I could come back and watch.
Hey Dave,
Thought you might like this. When Furman passed in 2011 I got all of his MX scraps. I put together a little picture video in his remembrance. His best two scrap books got stolen by an old roommate. But still had some good pics my Grandparents kept for him. Hope you like.

Heath, Thanks for the time capsule. I was on Team South in 1974, the year before Furman. That video brought back a lot of great memories.

Love MM, but there's no way they have the room for the pro pits, amateur pits and enough room for all the spectators. Then add to that all the space required for parking.
Plus, getting in and out would be a mess! imo

It’s got the room, question is do they want to put in the work to prepare it? Removing trees is easy and can make some $$$, but removing stumps will be self labor or take the money. The lands there, working it is the question.

I messaged MM today wanting him to join in on this forum. Explained what it was about. He said a National has been on his mind and it’s something he’s always wanted to do. He said he’s aware of all the situations and has been thinking and doing some mid term planning. ??
Better than not considering. If you want to see it happen contact them through FB messenger and let them know your for it.

You should see the roads in and out of High Point.

Not to burst your bubble Heath. But, I just spent last weekend (Friday-sunday) at Monster. In my opinion, the track and facilities have taken a nose dive since ownership change. I'm not gonna go on a bash a track, as its still an awesome place to ride, but I just don't see it rising to the occasion. I'll still go there, just be more prepared for it.

I've been to Monster and Millcreek 100s of times and usually go to at least 2 pro nationals a year. With that being said, neither Millcreek or Monster could hold a pro national. I love both tracks but they are not on par with national caliber.

The management alone is enough to keep both tracks from having a national. Then you talk about parking, road entry into the track, and the basic logistics and neither one would be able too.

I do know that Monster was looked at, but (unofficially) after meeting Tom and his operation, it was taken off the possibility list and Ironman was added.....deservedly.

Agree, once Tom took over, it went down hill really quick. We still like going there but the previous owners is what made that track what it is. Not sure what Tom was thinking when he bought it. Remove 3 tracks, cut prep down to 3 days a week and charge more money and let UTVs on the track is not a real good business plan

Indo know that Tom has been trying to sell it again, let's hope a true MXer buys it and makes it great again like it use to be.

I would hope a state with a population of 29 million people (TX) and a healthy moto scene in TX and OK got a national before a state with less population than DFW alone...... Swan MX needs a dadgum national. It's ridiculous that our closest national is 800 miles away (Thunder Valley, CO)

Well Landon, since you want to make it about you deserving something because your states bigger, let’s look at the current football in Texas vs Alabama.
And the stadium is packed week after week with 100,000 thousand plus. Then look at NASCAR in Alabama, pretty sure Talladega keeps the fans happy. So don’t tell me Texas deserves something over Alabama due to population, let’s make it about how other sporting events do within the states! ?
You’ll find those same passionate fans supporting MX.

I respect that. The rooms there if the trees were removed. But I don’t know the people running it. I’d say it’s all on them then. To remove trees and make it grow.

Man not football, we're discussing sports that take two balls to participate in.

A new owner did buy it. Tom sold it earlier this year.

Pretty sure Texas is at the top of the revenue chain in college football.... And hasn't Alabama scheduled quite a few games in Dallas? Must be doing that for a reason too.

But hey, if mx sports find there's more money to be made in the Gump State more power to em. I just think it's clear history suggests otherwise.

Interesting... I was at Monster 2-3 weeks back. Have been several times in the past... Probably the best I have ever ridden. Fully prepped. Touched track up through out the day, split practice etc. Had a huge crowd. People working there are extremely nice. Yeah the facilities (bathrooms etc) are not a 5* but from what I hear on race day they touch things up. But I can see location be somewhat of an issue. Yeah its close to other cities but it isn't the easiest drive getting to them.

I’ve not been there this year so I don’t know what he was referring too. He made it sound like the track had been redone and was terrible. I know in 2017 Roczen I was told made the statement he loved MM’s track and would love to see it on their schedule. It was mentioned possibly making some of the jumps larger. But if Kenny who goes to track after track thinks it could or should be on schedule, I’ll stick with him. Now it comes down to the new owners and if they can prep the facilities and grounds to host that type of an event.

I'm pretty sure you don't want to compare sporting events in Al to those in TX. That wouldn't work out in your favor.
But, it has absolutely nothing to do with a track getting an outdoor national. Have fun with your pissing match.

So your just as smart? He came to this thread like you, to speak of Texas? Not what it’s about! Let’s work your closed minds. 1,000,000,000 we’ll say Texas, 10,000,000 we’ll say Alabama. 1 track in each state that holds 20,000 people. Both tracks sell out. Isn’t that still 20,000 per track? So get the crap off the forum with the Negativity about Alabama not being able to support it. I drive I-65 every year when 200,000 race fans pour in from all over for Talladega. If you have the facilities and right track, the support will be there. It makes no difference if Texas was its on Country if the track only holds 20,000??? I’ve not yet to see Tenn Muddy Creek falter in support. How much bigger is Texas than Tenn.? Take that crap elsewhere. If Texas being as big as they are, haven’t gotten a track yet, what does that say about them? So yeah I’ll piss back on someone who wants to insult the place I call home, your dang straight I will. I see the 100,000 plus loyal fans in Tuscaloosa while 85,000 plus are in Auburn. I’ve driven the 6 hr traffic leaving Talladega in what’s normally an 1hr 15 min drive. It’s all about the track and facilities. If Texas has any good tracks they should try and get them seen. But I will ask the question of track elevation change? The Texas I’ve seen where my Grandfather lived, is 100% flat. That’s Dallas, I don’t know about other places, but maybe that’s their problem. But I suggest you and the Landon guy go start you a “why don’t Texas have a track” forum, and stop bashing the guys in Alabama and the South who know about MM.

Um, you were the one that got all bent out of shape and posted that silly ass picture and went on your Alabama vs Texas rant. I was just pointing out that you were starting a fight that you wouldn't win and the fact that it has absolutely nothing to do with getting a national.

That was Powder Mountain mx and the family tried to sue the track. I do not know what the outcome was but I believe the track is no longer open. As far as Monster goes, by far the best track I've ever been to. I ride monster a couple of times a year and its top notch every time. I thought Tom did a great job and the new owner seems to follow right there behind him. Yes it would need some major accommodations to host a national but I believe the staff and owners have always been excellent.

You allowed the pic to effect you. It was showed as a point of him saying Alabama couldn’t host a sporting event. I also mentioned NASCAR. And as far as you saying starting a fight I couldn’t win? He came to this thread putting down my state. As far as the pic goes it speaks for itself, and win is all we’ve done ?. Now go back and read where it all come from, and who called people from Alabama “Gumps”. I’d take these good Gump people any day of the year over jerks. But I’ve just got some insight back from the new owner of MM about 1hr ago. I’m happy with what he’s shared with me. I’d have easily shared with h everyone else until a few turds started commenting negatively. So I’ll sit on it and see what the new owner does. Again this forum is about Alabama’s Monster Mountain and who pics the tracks for Pro events. How would you like it if you had stated something on a home track and I trolled in and started dogging your state and uplifting mine? Wouldn’t be right for me to do? Also, remember what I posted was in response to him. Never underestimate Alabama people. They are a lot of good people in this state, and I’m 100% sure, if they know in advance of a Pro MX race, they’ll pack the place out.
