Dungey wins the consistency award, no doubt. But I'd definitely put raw speed over a bunch of podiums any day. Also Tomac is just now entering his prime. He could do this for five more years. Who's gonna beat him? Kenny? Anderson? Martin? Osborne? I doubt it.

I get the speed thing, but pretty sure a factory wants a title over a rider that cant finish a race or title chase. Thats why dungey is top 4 or 5 of all time imo.

Some of the folks are misunderstanding the OP.

Mxb2, It was Tier 1 SPEED, not tier 1 career. Dungey is a tier 1 career no doubt, but it was speed that was being talked about.

Clearly they are the two fastest riders on the planet. Who's faster is likely going to come down to the day, bike set up, and track/venue. On any given day either would beat the other.
On sand we all know who would win. On all other surfaces, it would be very close i think.

Sorry but you are wrong, When it comes to speed and talent, RD was not on the same level as JS. Know one was really. RD is an Awesome rider don't get me wrong. But JS was unreal!

No they aren't. Reed was Carmichael and Stewart's punching bag for most of his career. All-time great rider, but didn't have the speed of those tier 1 guys.

Same with Dungey. All-time great with one of the best resumes ever, but he didn't consistently have the raw speed as those guys. It's why RV handled him in Supercross, and I was a Dungey fan throughout all that.

Nooo way Roczen career wise has been tier 1 speed up until his injury for sure. I agree with everything else though, but Ken in 2016 was beating Dungey by 45 seconds. Dungey is Tier 1 career wise but not speed, fast tier 2. Consistency wise tier 1+. Villopoto, Stew, Roczen, Tomac all would smash Dungey when they were on. Dungey would smash all but Ken, Villo on the season. People forget how consistent Villopoto was, he had a couple injuries..Dungey has too, but he won 4 sx titles straight and 2 outdoor titles in a short career.

X2, great speed and racer. And more titles than stewart in less time. You dont win that many races and titles without having world class speed.

Just watched the moto again and even knowing the outcome I got goosebumps watching the last 8min. Just a brutal display of speed and power. Someone posted last week that Tomac bunnyhops his 450. It really looks like it. He's just bouncing through bumps over holes whipping and kicking his bike wherever he wants. I'll say it again no one has manhandled a 450 like this

2017 SX Tomac had the most race wins and was clearly the faster rider. Dungey was the most consistent and he won a title for it.

man i dont even have to go back very far to find those stats...take a second and go look thru results.

Dungey was good at making his bad days....not very bad. hes was great at it. probably the best. Some very historic rides. Southwick when his bike wouldn't run...Vegas when his shifter was bent.

but thats not what we are talking about. Smile
