Based off some comments I heard around their tent and some math, I think they're around 225-227 lbs on dry weight.

So with fluids and no gas they are at about 230 lbs and therefore 10 lbs over the limit.

@ early: yes, it’s a coincidence but it’s also a fact..

And yet they are still putting in great results....people are so hung up over weight it isnt funny, someone here said oh a few pounds lighter equals faster lap times....so what if the slightly heavier other bike (i.e. non KTM/Husky) puts the power down better because of the extra weight and/or has better geometry...then the lighter weight bikes doesnt mean a damn thing.
Every motorsport in the world chases lighter weight except you. Maybe everyone else is wrong...

Haha, for sure the teams are spending big $ on titanium and carbon fiber when a little more weight would make the bike hook up better. Maybe you should have listened a little better in physics class.
According to ML's info the factory Honda is ~5% heavier than a KTM. Doesn't sound like much? That's the same as missing 3 HP in the engine or Kenny being 6 lbs overweight..
Chad Reed didn't want the electric start on his yzf last year because of the extra weight and talked about how much lighter his stock husky is than his factory yzf. Brayton's Honda this year had no e-start because he liked the lighter feel and mass distribution better than with e-start.

Or maybe KTM is just investing in the best riders out there? It's been 10 years now.

I paid 7500 otd for a new husky 350 and many others were in the low to mid 7s on here.

Jap vs ktm arguements are always full of ppl quoting 5500 for a rmz and then 12k for a ktm lol.

Reed and brayton not wanting e start on there bike had nothing to do with weight . It had to do with the extra drag on the engine .they like an engine to be very free reving . No factory 450 is looking for 3 HP. They can make way more power than they ever need. They make them lighter for handling purposes. Jgr had the heaviest production bike when they were on Yamaha. And they def had the most HP

I was just pushing his buttons!

I’m in on all these brands. They all make moto fun, the whole brand loyalty deal that my brand is better than your brand is a result of good marketing on all their parts.

Pick a color, buy it! They are all building great stuff!

You know the starter doesn't spin when the engine is running don't you? They have a one way starter clutch that produces no more (probably less) drag than a bearing spinning in the engine. I think it had everything to do with not wanting the extra weight. Did Reed even have a choice of an electric starter?

Yes, the Rinaldi team had an option for years or the starter from the wr450f. Same setup: starter in front of the cylinder mounted within the ignition cover and a thread hole on the main case (even my yz450f from 2014 had this hole already).

Not to take anything from Reed, but you have to consider that top riders got hurt like Seely, Cooper, Bogle etc.. His results seem to have gotten better from 15th to about 10th..
