The problem is that one Ryan was laid up for two seasons while the other kept going like the energizer bunny while racking up wins, championships and some very sweet all time stats. This is what makes RD greater overall in MX than RV. It doesn't change the ass kicking Dungey received by RV those two years, but it does mean RV needed long recovery times (fragility) and missed series in between championships while RD grinded away and made himself a name/award(s)/legend in the sport.

One of which he had one of the most amazing rides ever seen and the other where he was absolutely crushing everyone and ultimately ran out of gas. I remember those incidents directly costing him the championship. I also remember Dungey and Villopoto having a great battle an entire season which Villopoto ultimately ended up winning. I think some of you guys here seem to forget how close RD and RV actually were in MX.

No one is saying Dungey is chopped liver. But RV was better. The Championships can't be lying.

Late in his career you could see in interviews that RV was over it, burnt the fuck out and hated the sport and what was required of him to fulfill his contracts and stay in championship contention. A couple years off, some vintage racing(the best thing in the world for a mx'rs soul) with his grandfather and a new gig with Yamaha has him smiling and taking to the track on a 2 stroke 125. I for one, am glad to "have him back". I for one, am also glad that he made millions out of this sports that robs so many of so much. He kicked much ass, he gets much respect. Newmann approved...not that it means anything to anyone.
