You will meet a lot of motocross people, and if an industry job is what you want, this is a great way to get your foot in the door. John Ayers Jr. is the man in charge, all-around good guy and also a good rider, and very hard worker. Get a mountain bike on the rig if you can, great way to see what's around this great land of ours...

Look me up beginning at Hangtown, I always try to help out and can usually be found on the infield during the races.

Oh, and the hardest part comes on Saturdays after the race, when most are either leaving or tailgating, and you're out there trying to take take overhead arches and dismantling everything. That's the ugh moment.

Good luck guys, and I'll look forward to reading your stories through the summer! FYI, you wont "find" time for those journals, you'll have to learn to "make" time for them,..Do it! Not just for us, but for yourselves,...you never know where you'll be in 30 years, and it would be cool to have something to reflect upon regardless. Enjoy the experience!

Good advice there. I've been working with the GNCC series (myself and Ryan Echols layout the racecourses) for about 7 years now and also do a handful of Pro Motocross rounds and Loretta Lynns. I've said for years that I need to write down all the cool/crazy stories and other random things that have happened. Took until this year to finally do it and unfortunately I've forgotten some of the details to older stories.

You guys will enjoy yourselves this year and will ultimately learn a lot. I'll be at a few rounds (High Point, Budds Creek and Ironman) and occasionally lend the Track Crew guys a hand when needed, so feel free to say hi when you see a goofy looking ginger.

The hardest part is definitely Saturday night, like DC said. The first round will suck, as everything will seem foreign to you and you'll never think that you can finish putting repeater up around the whole track before the races. Then Glen Helen will suck because you're putting repeater up giant hills. After that, it's pretty fun. You'll get used to everything and finish quicker and get to spend more time hanging out.

Hopefully you have a good crew, that's a big part of how much enjoyment you'll have... Dreading going into your tote at the end of the night is no fun. John Jr rules, and we're good friends to this day. As long as you do what your told and don't get in trouble, you'll have no issues.

One thing I wish I did a little more was pay attention to the travel more. You're going to be driving 15,000 in a 4 month period of time. Coast to coast and back. Take it all in. This country is pretty badass and you'll have a front row view of it all. Some of my best memories are Mike McDade and I driving through the night in the middle of nowhere Montana through tornado warnings in a 93 foot truck...

Anyways, you'll have a blast. Try to enjoy the scenery and all the places you'll see. Once you get used to living on the road and in a motorhome, you'll be fine. Have fun!

Props to you both for signing up!! I think it would be awesome to get daily vlogs. I know I would read/watch them. There is a great mobile blog tool called "Alive" you should check out. Great for vlogs. I would document as much as you can. Will be extremely valuable to you 20-30 years from now.

Saw an ad for it on RacerX website, made a real nice resume and emailed them about it. I'm sure it helped that I'm a young guy (19 y/o) and was willing to ditch my job for 3 months lol.

You guys will have a great time! Back in my college days I worked for a company involved in mx/sx, and while the company was a total trainwreck of a disaster- and that's putting it lightly, I learned so much real world info that's still valuable today. It was fun working with Mc, the yot gang, reedy, the carmichaels, and especially the folks at asterisk and alpinestars back then. Got to meet Travis at times, even though we raced ameatur at the same track--- but got to go to his compound a few times. I'm sure DC will read this and know the company I'm referring to already, but for the others it was AST. A total disaster. The good was my job was cake and I met tons of people, some of which I still keep up with today. Most stayed in moto, but I went a different direction. My point is simple, many people stayed in the industry and are doing well, and a lot comes down to the people you meet and network with along the way. Good luck, stay positive and have fun!

i know this thread was from quite a while ago, but how was your guys’ experience? would love to know how it was for you both, sounds like hard work but a great time with lots of memories.

Yeah I'm sure it will be hard work but when I got the phone call and he offered me the position I had to sit back and think "wow, what an opportunity". Being a young guy with a job that I can come back too when I get back after the season, I had to say yes. I'm just as passionate about motocross as the next guy and I'll probably never get an opportunity like this again. I'm sure I'll have some stories to tell when I get back, that's for sure.
bro i’m happy for you and i’m sure you’re going to make a ton of memories. i missed an opportunity to travel as a respiratory therapist making a ton of money and seeing the country and i regret it daily (gf and home now). you made the right decision and who knows what could come of it immediately or later down the road. it’s always good to step outside of your comfort zone. make sure you let us know how it went

Totally forgot about this topic! Lol. On my end, I did the first 4 nationals of the year before the 1 week break, and it was pretty cool. I got hurt on our one week break and wasn’t able to return but the first 4 were pretty cool. TONS of work but it never killed anyone to break a sweat. One thing that really sucked is we had a French guy that was a huge asshole and generally just sucked to be around that guy. I’ll openly say that and tell him to his face if I ever see him again. At thunder valley we almost got into a fist fight.

Besides that it was cool to do a little bit of traveling and meeting people from all over the country. Although I was only there for 4 weeks, I still talk to some of the guys on a somewhat daily basis.

I have always wanted to do this. Even Touched bases with the Ayres clan but was not quite able to commit. Now that I am I figure they do not want a 58 yr. old dude slowing down the process. Ah to be younger again (like 50!)! LOL

I am still planning on hitting all the nationals sometime in my lifetime in my toyhauler. It is on my bucket list, in big letters...
