Looks don't win races. Are the reviews positive on them ?
True, but if you’re going to win, it’s nice when your stuff looks good. Given your take on this, I have an ‘04 CRF 450 frame, if you like to build your own 500AF. Since you don’t care about looks, it should work nicely for you. It’s not hard to find, it’s laying in the scrap heap, behind my garage. You pay shipping, it’s yours.

I wouldn’t accept anything with welds like that. I would send them back.

Mine look like this, production or one off. And it’s harder on dip brazed production ones vs. new built. These are welded up stock Yamaha radiators. And for those Moto-Hose rads, he’s selling, you don’t have to buy. If they don’t leak and don’t break, it’s still works as a radiator, for a price.

This thread is a joke!

That's fine, you don't like it don't buy it, but don't go around forums shit talking the business for no apparent reason.

WOW! My "eBay special" GPI radiators on my KX250 look better made than those. They've been trouble free on the bike for 3years.

Fluadine radiators are the best quality you can buy at $600 and they are made in NC not far from us. Motorcycle sales are tiny when compared to automotive and NASCAR production. Not sure how long ago MC exhaust company Supertrap bought them.

When we were asked to make radiators by our WPS rep Fliadine quality was our goal. I bought a set of the cheap China knock offs and they are made with low quality crappy soft aluminum and fitment was a constant problem. I put them with modifications on my own YZ450F and they broke.

By making ours with a high quality manufacturer using high quality aluminum and bracing right out of the box and a 2.0 bar radiator cap we hit $390 for a set with free USA $25 shipping.

Some of you dont like the look of the pollished welds.

Christopher Vendetti is our radiator test pilot and he has run the same set of radiators for 2 years in GNCC and practiced 10 hours a week with them and he won a championship. He also raced last years Loretta Lynns and finished 450B in 8th overall.

We make a quality radiator.

Welding aluminum is still one of my goals. My brand new never used tig welder got flooded so that learning curve got kicked back. One day....
Got a trick for you, Newman for welding plates an old man taught me.
Jig your shit. Get out your rosebud and leave the oxygen off. Blacken the surface. Turn the oxy on and heat until the soot is gone. Then weld.

Aluminum wants to be hot prior to welding evidently.

I'm no AL welder, just try like everyone else.

My girl is a kindergarten teacher with no knowledge of welding. I showed her the pic and told her I was thinking of buying a set...she said "those things around the spigots look like crap, why didn't they do a better job? I don't think you should buy those." Laughing spigots....hahaha

We tig aluminum all the time at work...never, ever do we use a rosebud...so, I'm not sure how that works...(not saying it won't work) but we DO use a rosebud on cast iron...gotta get that sucker hot to get a good weld to hold.

Maybe you are "brazing"....but in our business, tigging is preferred and produces a quality weld

The soot burns off when it reaches a good preheat temp(dont ask me what), used more for tight bending than welding its a great OG trick, although may have helped here.. And spend more time cleaning them

The radiators in that article look a bit different than the ones in your instagram pictures. There's not a good full view of the radiators in the article, but the ones you posted certainly look different.

You're glossing over the glaringly obvious quality issues from a visual point alone. And as I said in my last post, there is no such thing as a visually bad weld that is also a functionally quality weld. There are also pits within the welds which can be indicative of a leaky weld. Lastly, the bead of the weld is very inconsistent and some areas they moved too fast, added too much filler, and heat was too low.

I'm going to bow out of this one at this point because you've never acknowledged what is glaringly obvious to even uneducated consumers and people who post here. So I don't believe this will change anything. I just find the quality of the weld so unimaginably horrible, I can't imagine someone opening these and being happy about the looks.

I appreciate Lumpy growing his business with radiators. It's always good to back your product, but at the same time look for continuous improvement. I'm not a radiator guy, but my thoughts would be that quality checking the welds is a two part deal when supplying to the general motocross public(we're a bunch of dicks). 1- Obviously the radiators hold up to pressure tests. 2- Aesthetics, and appearance are important as well. Lumpy call your supplier out on the welds, and make them do a better job. It's all business bro!

Ill chime in on this , the rosebud method is a pre heat method . So since you have welded tons of cast , you know the reasoning for pre heating materials before welding . In aluminum's case , it conducts and transfers heat very rapidly . thus is why it is used most commonly in cooling applications because of its rapid ability to stay cool . Well when welding aluminum it should always be pre heated to some degree to ensure proper and consistant results . Yes ive welded some without doing it . But its not proper , and the results show that , break tests show penetration inconsistencies .

Now on to the product :

I am 25 , and have been welding since highschool tech , i specialized in custom fab with a reputable job shop for over 5 years . i have been to school . and i can tell you right now . for 390 $ i would never consider spending my hard earned money on this , or would i direct anyone to even consider buying these . Look i respect , your company trying to bring something high quality into the brand . But at this point most stock radiators cost less then these , and i would trust the quality of those un-gusseted ratdiator's more then these . But please gather to the drawing board , maybe hire a trained aluminum specialist . This wont cut it , and i actually feel bad writing this , but it needs to be said .

I hope to see some changes in the process , and maybe you guys can make a better product for similar cost . If quality improves i would def consider buying some just to support in progress , and give feed back . Just please stop avoiding the quality issues with excuses , it show's very poor business etiquette . And that you arent willing to stand behind a product that you make and or distribute , for flaws or success you can't have it both ways .

Its no GMX radiator...
GMX Products are Weld / Engineering Porn - this is from a bloke who has TIG welded for over 4 decades.

Truly Gorgeous stuff!

One of my 500s OEM radiators just decided to give up the ghost. OEM pricing is fearful.Dizzy

I'd love some GMX's, or to make my own sets, but with the price of the them, I just closed my eyes and got some GPI (Chinese?) Radiators, as a pair was just over $100 AUD.

They are awful, awful things. I'll be pressure testing them before I fit them, and correcting the dreadful weld stop point craters, a few of which look to be guaranteed 'leakers'. Now, my bike is no pretty thing, it gets hammered through our bush here, but these things look disgusting - at least they will be hidden behind my braces, louvers and fans.

To top it off, after ordering std ones, I thought I'd try the high capacity ones - I've radiator braces I made myself that have limited clearance around the std radiators, plus Fans that are close, but at the price, I was happy to try them, and if I couldn't fit them, just wait for a friend to need a set. The mongrels in the Australian warehouse just shipped a standard set, as they don't stock the high capacity ones - despite them being on their website, and my ordering (and paying the extra amount for them) them as such. And they won't take them back - be careful fellow Aussies, they don't deal honorably.

Good Grief - if you are going to put corner gussets on radiators, don't take the gussets to a point at the ends if your welder is bad at his job, and put a backing plate between the fins and gussets during welding. Gives you a heat sink to not melt the gusset ends, and stops you from melting fins.

Bearuno - Please change your avatar, it is my property

Because it is on the web, doesn't make what I have paid for, free.
At the same time, for the artist, RIP, who made it, it's public domain assumption would crush him

I own it. I commissioned it. I paid for it.

Will do .

Though, I've used it for a few years here, and in threads where you've been. It's taken you a while to object to my usage - which, I had no idea of it being your business Logo when I started using it - I found it by googling "Bear on a Bike".
