I’m actually more excited about MVA.
I much prefer gameplay over real tracks and riders and am holding my breath that Nordic have listened to the complaints and made the right steps going forward.
And after watching that video above I already feel like I’ve played the game and every track it has to offer.
Going into something with zero expectations is never a bad thing though.
But to each his own, No right or wrong. I hope everyone buys both games because we can never have too many MX/SX games. I've got my preference but whatever works for you. As long as you enjoy it!
They started adding jet pack and walking on walls and robots and the fan base went away. I stopped buying those games because of that reason.
It seems mostly everyone can appreciate a game that totally immerses you into situations. I played the old Call of Duty’s because it made me feel like I was in combat in WW2, and the MXGP games because it feels like I’m at a GP Racing for wins. Just my .2
There's a lot wrong with the Nordic game that Milestone does better, even with their limitations on Milestone's air physics. Plus yeah, that whole licensing thing which we were told couldn't get done. But hey, physics wise, Milestone are working on them. Remember, Monster Energy Supercross is Milestone's first SX game, ever. Encore was THQs 8th...give or take a few if you're counting MCM.
First. Eighth. That's significant.
It's all good. Hope both are enjoyable. I really hope MVA somehow does Outdoor replicas. That would be saving grace for me. That team has a bad habit of fantasizing things too much when not making replicas. Their best work was replicas with Alive's JS7 and Encore's replica SX tracks...despite the game being garbage the tracks were pretty good.
And the stupid drift feature is killing me.
I will still buy the game and play it just because its been a long time not having a supercross game.
With Monster Energy Supercross arriving in less than 2 months I am finally stoked (after 18-19 YEARS) to have a modern, fully licensed, fully authentic Supercross game and I have no question it will be my favorite game of all time. I love Milestone's direction, plus also enjoyed the Stadium series they did in 2 so have a feel of what it will be like though much improved.
But until February 13th, 2018, this old gem is still my favorite Supercross video game. The last series...19 years ago...to actually have the full Supercross license thru Pace, the AMA and EA. Real riders, bikes, teams, tracks, Art Eckman and David Bailey on full in game race commentary (the ONLY game to this point to even attempt it), and a sweet ESPN2 TV style presentation with pre and post race lineups/finishes, points summaries, etc.
It's a freakin' hard game. Turn off the assists and you'll see how hard it is. Part of it is it's just a bit wonky in control but they were def aiming simulation. It's like a hard to control sim. Like a simulation sorta but of course some of the physics are just plain wonky. But it def lent way more toward being a simulation. You must roll jumps and time things to get things right, lap time wise. Yes, it's a bitch to turn, first turns look like a massacre and the physics are God awful mushy and let you plow throw all jumps but hey, it was 1999!! And not timing everything right does slow you down a lot. But the layouts are good, the game speed isn't exaggerated, the scale is right, the game isn't floaty and you can have back forth battles with the AI.
It was the last game...until now with Monster Energy Supercross...to offer a full 20 lap, full season points series mode with Heats and LCQs. And Daytona. And when you're in a season mode and you're in the fight for the title...like I am now with Albie...and have to go to the LCQ in Vegas...well, yeah, it's good stuff, to me. There's pressure you don't get otherwise in a one player mode SX game. Yes, it's dated as hell but it feels like late 90's Supercross and nothing beats that.
I've literally played the sh*t out of this game since it came out. Lol. I play on N64 (with the expansion graphics enhancement pak) and it looks darn sweet. And no matter what you say, hearing Art call out Fro, Albie and K Dub and say "they're going bar to bar" and "they're rubbing plastic" makes it friggin' cooler than anything else. Period. To me, that is Lol.
But seriously, EA Supercross 2000 was a game way ahead of it's time that I played for hours today while was home sick. It gives me that immersion into the real series I was talking about with what we will be getting with Monster Energy Supercross. An immersion factor that the other MX console games generally ignore.
Yeah, we know Milestone will eclipse this game super easily with Monster Energy Supercross and I can't wait for it to do so. But until Feb 13th, this is my number 1!
Flame on, fellas.
Here's the commercial from Y2K!! And for the record, I've never once done a trick during a race. The commercial puts a focus on that but that's what was in back then.
Eyes are bloodshot and sore!
Back to work tomorrow so won't be much more play time until the new SX game comes out then ill make some time
Pit Row
The learning curve was incredibly steep, but I never really felt any satisfaction once I got the hang of it. When I think back on SX 2000, it's not fondly, but I really did appreciate certain aspects of the game.
I've also found tons of enjoyment out of taking a 125 and ripping around the tracks against the 4 smokes
shit man, i'm struggling to top 5 on the hardest setting. MXGP2 i was giving them 20 second head starts on a 7 lap race and winning by 5-10. 3 is much harder in my opinion.
I'm only late in on this but it looks like the whips/scrubs arent a canned animation any more is this right?
For the ktm I use these settings.
Preload
-4 front
-3 rear
Don't touch spring stiffness
Compression dampening
-1 front
+1 rear
Rebound dampening
+2 front and rear
This looks interesting.
