DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
They lost money in their motorcycle division.
That's the least of it's worries. It's a 125. There's not even a MX class for anything about it, engine wise.
I haven't been on a sled since the early 1980's and a lot has changed since those days. Back in those times the Yamaha SRX was a strong runner but suspension performance was limited. Long travel sleds were just starting to arrive with Ski-Doo's MX line that had a pair of rear shocks mounted alongside the tunnel. I think maybe FOX supplied the shocks.
1. Suzuki have factories/production lines to fill. There is write-off/down to be taken if they stop filling them with work. Most production lines and its equipment are present in balance sheet as long term assets, write offs or good will.
2. How much lose are we doing, can this trend be turned with less effort and cost than above would generate as an impact?
3. Stock material and parts, plus possibly multi year contracts with part suppliers.
Ive said it before: Our market is barely growing, KTM and Husky has taken huge market shares last years. Someone has to give. But number 1 and 3 also motivate a "wind-down" over multiple years to avoid the stock taking a dive.
Pit Row
Also, a New AM. Program in the US including a team run by Brooks.
Suzuki has backed out of markets and programs that they see as "non-beneficial".
Suzuki has money, but they're not putting it into moto R&D or racing.
Suzuki company wide is FAR from failing.
Sad really.
I honestly thought the Japanese brands would wake up and copy the Austrians. It's not rocket science; invest in R&D and make updates, even modest updates to keep consumers interested. Build kids bikes again; 50, 65, and update the 85 to jump start those sales and get kids growing up on your brand. Make a simple splash in the industry and build MX 2-stroke 125 & 250. This alone would wake up the whole industry.
Short version: Copy virtually everything the Austrians are doing.....
