Waneroo in Western Australia the sandiest I've ever raced on. Jeff Leisk's home state, an awesome sand rider.

Loved Cocoa! Was not and easy track on 80's that for sure, haha! Always had my best Gold Cup and Winter Am results there though. Florida was loaded with gnarly sand tracks back in the day. Cocoa, Bithlo, Dade City day section, Zuber, plus most of the practice tracks like Palm City, Melbourne, Croom, etc.

I loved that track,it was deep black sand. I rode a few winter series races there in the 80's and the early 90's, the last race I rode there was in 1993 I think. Ernesto Fonseca was there that year on his Kodak sponsored YZ 85
I still might have a old jersey stained from the black sand.

The Croom riding area in Brooksville Florida was pretty gnarly too, The inner tracks people set up in the sandpit weren't as deep as the perimeter track, those whoops were huge and deep.It was a little sketchy though people would pop out of the woods into the pit right in front of you once in a while.

All this talk about deep sand tracks.....Why the Ef don't we have any!!??

I'd love to just spin one lap or two and Lommel. That's about all I could do. But damn that would be great training. Hard on the bikes , but the body gets a hell of a workout.

ClubMX training facility has a pretty deep sandtrack in the back. That part of South Carolina has a lot of sand.

Not to sound like a dick, but most of the places in the US mentioned here, just look like your regular sand track in Belgium/holland late on a wednesday afternoon. It's what we practice on weekly.

If you leave GP weekends out of it, I have to agree with the pic of Lewis Gregory at Loon. That track is the most rediculous thing you've ever seen.

It's one of the only places for Belgian/Dutch/French riders where you can ride year round. As a consequence, when the track opens at 8AM on a december sunday, there will be 100 riders ready to go in freezing temps. Most of them will be gone by 11AM. By then the track is unrecognizable and only the pros, fastest amateurs and the mentally challenged will still be riding.

A little bit off topic but I whenever I saw the Utah Miller Motorsport track I never understood why they didn't truck in a bunch of sand instead of whatever they got and made a track similar to Assen in the GPs. I think if it was deep sand it would have made up for the fact that it had no elevation and might still be a national. Anyone else agree?

We used to have a track over here run by the Harley Davidson Motocross club (yes a motocross club) in the 80's, think Leirop at its roughest and that was the smoothest Harley used to be, it just got worse.

Not sure I agree on the hardest track. But possibly the most fun one of those tracks in Belgium/Netherlands I've ridden

Dunkirk is fun but it gets weird when you sometimes think you are on a differrent part of the track than you really are Laughing But maybe they have shortened it even more now? Have not been there for a few years

The river bottom parts of the old Plymouth Hangtown track. Pretty deep.

Hangtown at Plymouth in 1976 was pretty rough for those bikes. Gaylon Mosier here.

If we raced there today, I'm sure it would get a lot rougher. That sand was pretty deep.

It's an experience for sure. But holy damn you'd be glad to get from there at the end of the day.

In the winter months these are the only tracks that are rideable in Europe. For the average rider when they get rough it's hardly even pleasurable riding them it's so hard going. You have no rest all the way around as soon as you let off the gas you basically come to a stand still. The pro's and especially Herlings and TC222 make it look waaay to easy.

I remember Diamondback being rough in 1977, but our bikes weren't all that either.

Had that happen to me while at Crooms! We were blitzing these whoops along a roadway when this clown shoots out of woods right it front of me. T-boned his swingarm and folded my forks back on my '80 cr250. He rode away and I was Done!

Yes, I rode the '81 winter series (amateur) and it was one of the tracks. Gnarly! Barnett made it look easy!
Throw Orlando Sports Stadium in the mix with those as well during the same time frame.

Have to agree. If your not on the top of your game, or not riding sand every weekend, it will probably be the least fun you have on a bike ever! I have almost fallen out with motocross several times riding deep sand tracks in the winter.

I've ridden fatcats when Searle, irwin, dunn, Watson and plenty more were there over the years, and it's silly how smooth and easy they make it look. Literally pass you like your stood still, please don't underestimate the skill of a fast sand rider!

I love sand. I'd ride it exclusively if it was available. Club Mx has a pretty good sand track but you really can't ever ride it. Any of you older guys from the south east ever race Montrose in Raeford NC? It reminded me of Southwick. Thats where I cut my teeth in the early 2000s. Made a man out of me. I'm a little girl now :-)

Remember Marysville in the '70s & '80s? Like the old Oak-Tree turn?
