I use to hang out with Jeff and others at the Dunns, Saddle back Escape Country.

But that was many moons ago he most likly dont remember me but once In a while when I get home I still go vist Brain Jordan on and off.

I went to Art's (senior, I always assumed AJ was jr.) mx school in 82. he taught me the most important thing there is....STAND UP


still remember he told us the first morning...'a motorcycle is not an armchair!'


he made us do 15 laps around the track in aqua dulce, standing up...then he started working on telling us when it was ok to sit down, which was really only when railing a burm.


there was a lot more to be taught, but I must say his school made such a big difference on all of our styles (i was a midpack 80 nov before it)

the first day, AJ showed up, also hannah met his mechanic there and I think was supposed to do some testing, but all I memember him doing was a crazy road jump with shorts on.


oh how I miss those days! I've raced most every single track in california (in the 80's), but I will be always a dunes kid at heart, and that's where I want my ashes dumped.

but ascot did teach me how to go fast on barrel turns. :-P
Gday Tom, my name is Rosco holden form Australia a bunch of us came over and road the World Mini's in 1979 at Saddleback and also cyclerama and were ther for about 6 weeks, we raced all over down so-cal. Corona e.t.c Peter
( Budda) Luczkowski and I ordered factory DG Bikes for the tour. We originally orederd 79 Cr 125's , only to be told a few weeks out they would not be available in time and we had to order something else. So Pete got Yellow Yam 125 and I ordered RN 125 Suzook , Pete's bike was ok , but I had a lot of problems with mine , ridden and siezed before I even got mine and we only ,recieved them 10 days after arriving, Harry Klemm came out and tried to dial them in for us ,but being young and inexperiecend and in awe of being and riding in the US , from Aus never told him that, my stocker at home felt better. Bfeore I go any further when it did arrive home and got it sorted , it was a rocket, and handled great.

The point of all the above is to give you a brief of a good mate of mine who won the World 105 CC Class in that year Jeff Leisk, and Im doing a interview on Easter Friday april 6th and wondering if you have any event photos and results , that i can use for the Honda 71/84 Elsinore and memrobilla display for the Event?

P.S I still travell to the US and lived in Seattle on and off for 13 yrs and have been going there since 79, US is my other home,

I remember you well. I am Shaun's younger brother, Shannon. I remember when I first saw you race at Rio Bravo, you were racing an 80cc Indian that had fluorescent green front fork covers with a metal looking gas tank. It was a very different looking bike back in the day. I also remember you because you were fast as hell, and you and my brother had many a great battles.

I also remember you and my brother would become good friends and I think it was your dad who built the YU 80's. I think they were Nugoochi kit YZ 80's that were mono shocked out and very fast. I remember very clearly in one of the Rio Bravo nationals, my brother was racing in the 105 cc class against Jeff Ward, who at the time raced the only mini-elsinore in the world. It was a works bike from American honda, and my brother was riding the YU 105 cc that your dad had built. You, Jeff and Shaun were all very talented, but on this day my brother took the overall win in the 105 class. I promise, the bikes your dad built, were ever bit as good as the factory mini-elsinore that Jeff was riding.

Shaun and Jeff battled it out the entire race, but jeff could never close the gap on Shaun. part of this was due to your dad's fine work.

I hope you are doing well and take care of yourself. I will tell Shaun you have mention him several times on this forum and hopefully get him on here to share some of his memories as well!

YEP!!! I was there. Shaun is my older brother. That 60 was kick ass and one of a kind. He smoked everyone in that class on that bike. I remember when they built the bike, it was waaaaaaay ahead of it's time. If my memory serves me correctly, it was some kind of sleeved down 80 that had some kind of different crank case. I remember when he won after beating Brown, Myerscough and Ward in the 60 class at Saddleback by something like 30 seconds, there was a protest after the race. Mike brown's mechanic broke down Shaun;s bike and there was about a 3 hour delay before they handed out the trophies.

They just couldn't believe a Texas bot could come up there and do what he did. After was all said and done, Shaun walked off with the trophy and to everyone's amazement, found that his bike was perfectly legal and we got calls from everyone wanting Shaun's bike replicated. I do not know if others like were built or not, but those sure were fun days!!!!

i just started to restore my 1980 rm80 2 weeks ago and i need to ask u a favor

When I was racing 80's we used to go to a couple of tracks south of Houston. Alvin mx and Danbury mx.
I remember Shaun Kelly showed up at Danbury mx 1 time and I could not believe how fast he was!!!! I believe at the time he was a support rider for Honda. Also on that day, down the finish line straight there was a outhouse down at the end of the straight right where the track turned to the right and 1 of the pro's lost control and ran right into the outhouse!!! Front wheel broke through the door and him and bike ended up inside....

busted out the scanner, and wanted to share..

I took this photo of Danny Storbeck with my mom's old basic kodak 35mm with black and white film when I was a kid. This was in San Antonio area I believe, but we were somewhere in Texas every weekend back then.. I watched him poof thru this corner several times but only took one shot, because I didn't want to waste precious film! ha!

Danny Storbeck seemed like a mini Broc Glover or something to me.. like a mini version of a full factory Yamaha rider that was on the line in my class for some reason! haha I raced Dale more than Danny actually..

Condolences to steves family. I remember him from the mini days and then the early 80's as a test rider for dirt bike. He was one of the guys I asked about several years ago in a post on here
