For me, if I'm not getting a bit out of shape at least a few times a lap I'm not trying hard enough. I've got over 220 lap hours on my Alta at various Socal tracks and I can definitely feel the difference in weight coming off a YZ250F. There's simply not enough tech trickery currently available to hide 270 lbs of motorcycle. Yes, I weighed mine, it was exactly 50/50 (136lbs/136lbs). That being said, it feels much better than my old Husky TE450 which was about the same weight.
I couldn't jump overly far without feeling like I was gonna destroy the fork internals but for what I was able to do jumping wise it felt like I was just on a normal feeling bike. To me it was so nimble feeling it gave the impression of being very light. Maybe jumping pretty huge has a different effect but without being argumentative to your point, I feel as though the extra weight isn't as noticeable as many would think.

The Military project bike ( I think it's perhaps not a direct project of Alta's, another company is doing it or it's a joint project) is using some sort of small ICE engine. Using the fuel that the military seems to require for use in all of their ICE vehicles, I think. I believe it:s used as a generator, not a direct drive engine.

The Alta gets more intriguing each day. Besides the relatively high cost of entry (somewhat offset by a potentially lower total cost of ownership), the main issue revolves around battery life. Rides 3+ hours from base camp pushes the Alta to its limit, and unlike an ICE, there's no going back for extra fuel. So the ride radius is limited, and strategic prefight planning is required.

Lol yea this.. I was thinking about RC's the Alta sounds a lot like an electric RC car. Electric RC cars are so much faster than nitro/gas powered ones. I think electric will take over motocross and supercross before we know it.

as with any bike, if youve get straight ran out of gas ever, its the same thing as running out of battery. and if all of you have similar sized tanks, your all going to be about the same out of gas...so its the same thing basically

And if you're trail riding always bring a tool to remove the chain, the Alta is not easy to push. Not because of the weight, but the magnets in the motor. It's called cogging and without a neutral it's always present unless you remove the chain.

E-Bikes are totally the future.

Gavin Faith rode one this past weekend at Millville in the 250A class. He only had 1 lap of practice the day before but managed to place 6th.

I could get used to not changing filters and dropping the oil.

Electric is the future...no doubt, even in mountain biking manufacturers are spending lots development dollars on electric.
Imagine living on an acre of land somewhere in the subs and spinning laps on your back yard sx track.
Now that would be cool.
