How bout it, got too greedy, could of made some money, now going to make zero money, no GP and no Mini O's.

Wouldn't at least one step of the due diligence process include finding out if the promoter has a valid lease or right to hold this event there?

"assumed that he'd be able to renegotiate a deal to continue into the future."

Given the history with the Glen Helen MXDN & GP, Charlotte and others they should have assumed it would be a wild goose chase, cancelled outright or in this case moved with less than a month and a half to the event.

If it was some crazy last minute government intervention like happened at Maggiora or Ulverton in Canada this year then that is a much more valid excuse. I can "assume" I will land approval to build a track in the Chimpanzee Exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, but I would not expect a GP for it and start promoting the hell out of it.

Poor planning from all of those involved.

Gang, this is not on Youthstream, or Wyn, or MX Sports or anyone directly involved in moto. This was a real estate lease problem and an unreasonable rise in terms that came as a direct result of the scheduling on this race. The terms went through the roof -- actually, the tenth floor roof. Wyn did all he could to resolve it, and Youthstream was very patient and understanding of his dilemma. We are all going to work our butts off to make this event work, and anyone who's been to WW Ranch (as Ricky and Harry and a few others mention) knows the facility and the landowner are in it for the right reasons. We were all caught off guard by the sudden change in terms; we will all do our best to make an even better race at this new location. And I am headed there tomorrow to get started.

Junior and Lisa are great people. If anyone can pull this off, it is them. DC, stop by the house tomorrow for some fresh battered and fried gator tail.

Sounds like the land owners got too greedy and all involved will lose. Potential loss of another iconic amateur national is also a possibility. We've lost Ponca, World Mini, Whitney, Oak Hill is for sale, Branson, and now Mini O's are in jeopardy. I know different reasons for them all, but it still sucks. No to mention all of those affected by the change in venue with travel, local business, and on and on. All in the name of greed.

Glad another option was so close, for all involved.

"We've been told that when the owners discovered that a World Championship GP had been scheduled there, they weren't happy..."

How were the owners notified? If from other than Mr. Kern, then the rescheduling lies at the promoter's feet. Are the owners acting "greedy" for demanding a ludicrous rate hike? Probably. Was the promoter acting greedy by using the "hey, it's not a National" clause? Probably.

In the end Mr. Kern likely knew the owners would increase the lease if he informed them of the MXGP, and hoped they would abide by the terms of the lease. It's not hard to imagine that the promoter hoped the lease would be renewed before the owners were aware of the race. It was a gamble that didn't pay off.
Funny how greedy rich people are all about the exact wording of a contract, until it works against them...

Wait a tick...

They moved the GP to an actual "Sand Track"?

Oh, HELL YES!

For those of you that want to see a proper GP...this is a good thang.

Its not a "sand track". Its soft soil, but not sand.

DC, as long as all parties (YS, MX Sports, Wyn and Junior) are involved and working together, this will still be the best USGP since we started coming back. I was looking forward to it being at Gatorback as I believe its a "GP" style track, but WW is one of, if not the best track I personally have ever rode. You guys made the right call by moving it to there rather than any other track in the Southeast. I cannot wait as either way, it is going to be an excellent time!

My bad: from some of the on track pictures...looked like heavy-moist sand.

Odds that this race doesn't happen?

I'd say 30%

Yeah, it's not like a Florida sand track - like Palm Valley or something. It would be if WW had not brought in some clay and mixed it. It's actually a very nice surface. Additionally, most parts of it are like "freeway" wide. There should be some awesome passing going on. In the Sanyei vid you can see it has multiple lines. Yes, it is built on typical Florida terrain - FLAT - but WW has made some massive hills on the track. Pictures really don't do it justice. You have to ride it or see it in person. There's a reason why people rave about the place.

I think Mr. Wonderful calls that "bone in mouth disease."

A dog on a dock has a bone in his mouth, he looks down at his reflection in the water and sees another dog with... ANOTHER bone! Being the greedy dog he is, he opens his mouth to get the 2nd bone and in doing so, his bone falls in the water and now he has no bones at all.

I'm an oldster and haven't raced at Gatorback since 1980. It was a Moto dream come true that a GP was scheduled at the track. I've never been more pumped about an MX event. Now, it's gone. This is a huge bummer. WW looks like some man-made bumps in an open field. I looked at WW videos and I mostly see "the big jump". The $300 I spent on my son and my tickets will get more fun spent on a three day flats fishing weekend. This really stinks.

Some people can't ever be happy, you south east people complain you don't have any nationals down there, you get a GP race in FL and it has to move to another FL track and still not happy. Just be glad the race hasn't moved to a different state.

How does the AMA/MXGP even award this guy a race when he had not already secured the lease covering the date of the MXGP? Does anyone do any due diligence? A promise to secure the lease is not the same as securing the lease so how does this even happen? Total joke if you ask me.

MXGP: Hey Wyn do you have a secured lease for the Gatorback track for the specific date of the MXGP?

Wyn: Not yet but I super promise I'll get one.

MXGP: Okay that's good enough for us.
He has run the track for like 25 years.

Well the Stewart's won't be there now Smile

I guess the landlords don't realize that nobody makes money in moto!

And grabbed a bit of history, that could have increased the value of the place in the Moto world.

It'll probably be a retirement community of condos in ten years.

I see it as great news for the WW ranch , and I'm sure it'll end up being a great race. But dang , it sounds like scheduling a GP at Gatorback pretty much put the last nail in the coffin for that place. Which sucks. Doesn't sound like the land lords were willing to negotiate at all.

I'm in if the Stewart's commit. The promoters need to get them some appearance incentives to salvage this event.

You know what they say about assuming. New track looks decent, but this is still a bummer. Not just because Gatorback would have been better but because this crap always happens here.

I do not like Gatorback, this WW is a track in a esplanade that I don't usually like, but the terrain and design is pretty good, it's fast and I think they will see a good race.
I hope the good riders yankees will participate to compete with the riders from the GP´s.

"salvage" the event, dude I hate to break it to you but gatorback sucks. Granted its historic, it's dirt has even gotten a little better over the past year or two again but this track is way better, the facility is newer, it will be great. Plus you're getting all the factory Euro trickness without having the cross the pond. It's literally in your state, go enjoy the event like you were going to and quit being salty for no reason.
