Spoke with my wallet 4 STROKE

Edited Date/Time 5/16/2017 4:08pm
Traded in the 2014 CRF250R:

Got a 2017 KX250F

I am a long time Honda guy but this Kawasaki is better in almost every way than my 2014. Faster, turns better, feels agile, adjustable bars/pegs, etc. If your in the market for a new bike give the KXF a look.

Does it feel a lot stronger?

Absolutely. Its got 80 hours less on it so take it with a grain of salt but it feels like it has a pair when you wind it out.

I never considered Honda guys Koolaid drinkers but whatever.

If such a thing as a Honda kool aid drinker existed I would probably be it. been on them since i was 4 and I am 30.

Sadly big red couldn't keep me but if yesterday was any indication I made a good choice for me.

I think they are some of the worst offenders honestly. They are loyal. Even through some downright bad offerings.

Slowest 125 for over a decade
Worst 250 power delivery for half a decade
250f that needs valve adjustments within 10 hours of new and every 10 from there
450s making far and away the least power for years and years.

This sounds negative and is cherry picking only the bad, but all you ever hear is how Honda's are the good standard in moto. I don't personally agree. 93 Cr is a damn nice bike tho and the 05-07 crs have a ton of potential. 05-08 450 excellent bikes.

Ok what i meant was that some peeps buy a brand. If its not brand x it sucks. Like they own stock in the company. We all know that certain year models of various brands of bikes are better. A non koolaid drinking dude buys the bike he thinks is
Best not the brand.

Nice bike, congratulation!
I kinda wanted to go with Ktm but they are very expensive here. I guess for amateur sportsman level riders, any bike can be competitive . After that it comes down to what deal you can get first off, then maybe a long held brand loyalty or favourite.
I went with the 17 yz 450 first and foremost because of a great deal, second reason was that MXA rates them as bulletproof ,not fussy about valve clearance adjustments compared to other brands, third because they rate its suspension as excellent, fourth because they rate the power as very good and very powerful..., fifth because the last ten bikes I've had were Yamahas and I was very happy with all of them ( I think it was ten but could be only 8...memory fades..)
MXA does say that the yz 450 corners like it has a hinge in the front end , which is somewhat disconcerting...
One thing is probably pretty certain though and that is that not very many of us buy a bike based on the performance of Ol' Mate ( insert name here ) the factory rider...
I raced kawasakis for a while back Iin the 90's they were good bikes but I think it was my 98 kx250 that put me off, didn't like the way it cornered and it was a pogo stick with a very bad rear shock...
Anyway getting a brand new bike is awesome eh? I know when I go to pick up my new 450 in about three weeks I'll be sporting some serious wood..

Nascarnate - How much do you weigh? You look like a bigger guy. No shame there, I was 220+ lbs shredding a 250F for the longest time. I'm heavier than that now so I eventually went to a 450.

I would say that I'm a "Yamaha guy" but I wouldn't buy a current Yamaha 450 if it was the last new bike made. Haven't ridden the current generation 250F, people say its handling quirks aren't as pronounced but I would have to ride one before I took that chance.

210lbs. Not a twig here! I have had 450's in the past but just don't need the power the new 450's make. And this bike was more budget friendly Smile

No doubt. I'm on a 450 getting pulled on starts by 250Fs...guess I'm too scared to let her rip.

My local shop here is selling 2017 KX250Fs for $6298 + tax = OTD. My wife said I can get a new KTM 350 if I want but I have to keep it for 6 years...its difficult to justify spending an extra 3k when I can get the Kawi.

I definitely need to ride a 250F before going that route as I haven't really ridden one in about 6 years.

Cost the the primary reason I didn't wait for a 2018 CRF 250, no way Im going to get one for $6600 OTD.

I tried the launch control a few times, not sure its really needed. Seems that putting it in 2nd and just going for it achieved my best start of the night.

Wow...if the new 2017 KX is going OTD for $6298, I sure hate it for the guy trying to sell his used 2016.
The depreciation must be horrendous.

Well its $6298 + tax (for instate buyers) = approximately $6738, which is a damn good price. They have 2017 KX450Fs for $7298 + tax. Makes it hard to pay $9500 for a KTM 350SXF when you can get a bike for those prices.

I've got a brand new 16 with 0.3hrs on it and can't sell it for $4800.

OP: sweet bike! These KX250F's are great, good choice.

I got my 16 KX450F for $6,000 plus tax. Love shopping for leftovers.

Congrats on the new bike.

Yep - I don't think the 2017 is a game changer by any means. Basically the same HP and suspension components. People rave about how slim the new frame is but that could just be MXA Kool-Aid.

^^^ I agree with you on the '93/94 125's. This is so long ago and doesn't compare to today's technology but talk about a damn screaming ass little 125!!! And compared to the other bikes you can see why some pro riders back in the day did so much better on the red bike. Telling my age but I miss those days.

Glad to read that you like it. Could you list your important mods for us? The ones that made important differences for you.
I won't get to ride my new 17 for probably a month.....I'm a bit of a short arse at 5 foot six ish , fat at the moment at 79 kg cause I'm on holiday and living it up, but by the time I get to ride the new bike , I will be back in work mode and downt to about 72 kg
Haven't ridden a four stroke since my 01 yz 426 and I used to stall the thing in tight turns a little bit.
Was thinking of getting a 9 oz flywheel weight and a jgr adjustable link as per what I've read....
Thanks
