Turning it around too
A week ago it looked like Kawi would win 250 East and West AND the 450 title in supercross.
Now KTM/Husky are likely to win at least 1 or 2 out of 3

When was the last time a manufacturer took the top 5 spots in the main in the SX premier class?

Dunge went to an un proven brand with a pour reputation many years ago. Couple titles later, buying a manufacture, estart, lightest bikes, 2 strokes, and the most factory riders

Everybody wanting one is a stretch. Plenty of people avoiding them after trying them. Plenty of mini dads glad to be on green or blue after dealing with orange minis. Only a handful of orange bikes in my area now after a few years of being all you saw. Most of them are back on green or red and some blue. Ive been to a few practices that had zero orange bikes out of 100+ riders.

The ratio of problems from ktm vs kawi and honda is way too high for most to even consider looking at one. Ktm is doing good because of the riders. Not the bike. It almost looks like a numbers game. More orange bikes means a greater chance of one getting a podium. I can give them that at least. They have 6 factory riders on 450s for sx alone.

Yep we were one of first to ride Orange back in 2005 round here
now everyone has em, too much orange now!

The customers continuing to buy the Honda/Kawa/Suz bikes are only ensuring that those manufacturers will never make great strides to improve their bikes.

They started taking over this side of the pond around '01, since then just a sea of orange at every local track.

The Vintage class doesn't count. Wink

Here it is a white orange sea as well since a decade, then a decent yam number among which half are 2 stroke. Otherwise red green and yellow have become as exotic as tm or beta who also have some aficionados.

don't forget the incredible business savvy of CEO Stefan Pierer leading the business side and Roger DeCoster on the racing/development side

The reason I went yellow in the late 70's/ early 80's
-- all the neighborhood kids were on red Elsie's

After my long sabbatical away
- had to go red and picked up a fresh 01 cr 250 in 03

Everyone was on red again so I went back to yellow and still there

... never been a follower

Now damn it-- hurry up and build me a yellow e-button bike

Before I jump ship

I believe that KTM owes a lot of its recent success to Suzuki.

...If Suzuki had decided to renew DeCosters contract, that new bike for Dungey would have not been built (and Dungey wouldn't be at KTM). DeCoster is the primary reason why orange is the way to go for a dirt bike now.

My 3 week old KTM is the most fun and easy to ride bike Ive ever owned. I was a skeptic until I rode one.

so all the other weeks are bad weeks for KTM/Husky and good ones for the Japanese manufacturers?

KTM50's are the worst bike of any on the market. The rest of the KTM's are as reliable or more reliable than the Japanese equivalents. For example the service manual for my 17 ktm450 recommends longer oil change intervals than my 14 yz450, I change at 5 hrs anyway. The oil comes out of my ktm looking brand new, at 5 hrs on the yz it comes out very dark. Air filter stays cleaner on the ktm as well.

You are probably still thinking of the KTM's from early 2000's and before.

65's arent much better. I maintain one weekly for a friend. Its a 2014 and its garbage. Picked up a couple of kawi 85's to replace it with. Him getting off the ktm means unless someone changes or a new rider moves to our area, there will be no orange bikes racing below the 250 class around us. And those 250's are 2 strokes. There are a handful of vets on 450's, but thats it. We raced last weekend at a new track that was just built, better than expected turnout, 188 bikes. 2 ktms.

I disagree with you. Perception of problems with KTMs/Huskys vs reality can be two differing things. There are no stats on whether they are more or less reliable than Japanese bikes and even if a poll was done you are unlikely to get honest answers.

I do think with KTM/Husky you pay for better quality components/bikes so you EXPECT them to break less (...if they do - relative to other lesser priced manufacturers).

Perception of what is the best ?
All bikes are pretty damn good right now, pick your favorite color and ride it like you stole it. It's 95% + rider

And marketing, what's old is new again.
(Insert air forks)

lol I totally agree that all the brands are pretty close and in reality most riders would do well on any brand.

I was just responding that you only ride what the majority dont... I never heard that logic Smile Although I actually get it and dig it.

You don't mind if I think it's a bit peculiar that you actually COUNTED, right? I would think your own riding would distract you from taking the time, effort, and energy, to assess and mentally record who else is riding what else, but maybe that's just your thing - you're obsessed with establishing empirical evidence that KTM is failing in your area. And who am I to question what brings a man joy? Have at it, bud. Myself, I've owned several examples of all the brands (except brands like TM and Beta), so I think this whole green is better than orange is better than red is better than blue is better than white is a kinda silly. I love em' all, but I fully understand that I'm odd that way.

That is almost the opposite of local events in Australia, I would estimate 60/40 with KTM/Husky the 60, in the 50 and 65 class there might be 1 or 2 japanese bikes out of 30-40 riders, I would also say that the of the bikes no older than 2 years 80% are ktm/husky. My KTM65 has been good, at 50hrs I replaced the piston ring thats it. The 50 on the other hand......Sick

I tried to get a 17' Husky 125. There was a wait list. Somebody wants them. I dont see any wait list at any Jap dealers. Just showrooms full of any bike you want.

I've raced Husqvarnas for over 20 years. They have always been badass bikes. 125cc to 510 Four Stroke.
