The aluminum body panels isn't such a big deal but will add expense to insure and repair. Afterall Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Freightliner cabs are built out of aluminum.

But that stupid engine that fools CAFE but sucks in the real world. What an overly complicated pile of crap.

At least Ford finally got their weight down to about where the GM half tons have been for years.

My SCT tuner was been set up by Mike at 5 Star tune. I have an AirRaid CAI & a Magnaflow cat back exhaust. I honestly feel that a bit of the jump in mileage is because I put my stock wheels back on earlier this yr than I normally do for the winter & they are a little smaller & they feel a bunch lighter than my BMF 20s with the 35" Nitto Terra Grapplers that I run most of the yr. I was getting 14.5-15.5 on the highway before the tuner & after a few tanks of gas it jumped to 16-16.8 on the highway at 72-75mph. The tow tune helped a bunch too. My trailer is a loaded 16' enclosed with bikes, gear, water tank, large tool box, cabinets & other misc shit that I'm sure pushes the weight of the trailer close to 6000lbs & my trucks pulls it easily BUT if I have my foot in it & get it up to 75-80 the mileage will drop into the 9s but with the tow tune & if I keep it under 80 I'm getting 11.5 mpg & if I keep at 72 like I did one day on a 290 mile round trip to the races I got 12 mpg up & back which was awesome.
I have tunes from 5 star as well with Magnaflow exhaust. I've never had a trailer hooked up to my truck, Im not drag racing the thing and I'm at 12.0 all day every day, 18 in Methods and Goodyear Wranglers. My buddy has the extra cab version with same tires and BMF Novakane's and he's 13.8 no CAI or tuner. My neighbor put 37's on his and he says 13 MPG no prob, I dont get it, I'm just special or lucky I guess.

If I'm beating around town & romping on it as I usually do all I get is 13 also but that's with me pounding the pedal pretty good.

Apparently they've refined the 5.3. Mine runs like a CR125 with a first timer aboard. Dead off the bottom till about 3800, comes on the pipe and burns the tires off till 5200, shifts to second, falls on its face at 3200 and gotta wait till it builds back up to 3800 to start the process back over again. All of this with a 3.73 gear. When pulling a trailer it truly becomes exhausting listening to it scream its guts out. 15/18mpg Turd.

I only bought another diesel because I live in the mountains and with RV trailer bikes and gear I can easily be packing an extra 12,000lbs. With no water in the tanks the trailer weighs 10,000lbs with 1000lb tongue weight. I wish now I'd went with a much smaller, lighter trailer. I would have went with a 5.0 F150 in a heartbeat if I didn't need the extra capabilities.

I love having an 8' box but I'd give it up for a 6'6 if I could get away with a half ton.
A 5.0 Liter Ford wont pull a 6,000 Lbs trailer over a few grades here once over 9000 feet.

They are geared far too tall (you need like a 4.10 ratio )and in Low 1 WFO a 5.4 Triton is topped out a 15 MPH at the point the Auto trans almost starts slipping. Any steeper and you'd have to go to low 4. And that sucks on dry pavement and twisty roads.
Ive seen lots with the old 4.6 triton or whatever is was.......low 4 for sure.

A turbo would help but the current eco boost is just a band aid for torque in the mountains. You need displacement too. Hence why I said a 5.4 or 6.2 Eco Boost would be the shizzle.

Don't complain when you start having issues due to neglect. Tron can you tell me how to maintain your differential plate? or how bout those engine manifold bolts and gee for $30k you think stainless brake lines would be a deal killer. not neglect, poor materials. my Ranger went through the same seasons and never had caliper pins sieze or brake lines rot. Since when does a dip stick tube rust ???? guess you wax yours?

I have a 2010 Raptor and it's been the biggest disappointment of any truck I have ever owned. I hope the new ones resolve all the ridiculous problems and actually make it a performance truck

Fox should shoot themselves with these shocks they put on the truck.

I hear you I have a brand new 17 f250 it's been in the shop a total of two weeks and I've had it two months going to making my third trip t the dealer this week and already called to get lemon law paperwork started. Total joke a $70k truck has so many electrical problems.

Well, I'm about 30 grand into new equipment so far for working on these aluminum wonders, including this Skippy little $10,000.00 rivet gun with few accessories.

Makes a factory appearing repair where accessible. Ford supplies some huge and unsightly hemlock rivets for areas not accessible. Rivet head for the self piercing rivet presses in flush and dimples the backside. No through penetration of the coated steel rivet. No drilling of holes either.

How many of you have had problems with your 3.5 ecoboost?

My neighbor has 96k miles on his. The timing chain stretched, jumped off the sprocket and destroyed his motor. From what I'm reading, this seems to be an ongoing problem with some of the ecoboost engines.

Reminds me of the kid with the WRX that blew with 19K on the ODO.

It seen almost 10,000 RPMS when they downloaded the data from it. Warranty denied.

Do people really think these street vehicles are made to do shit like that?
Watching Raptors get jumped and they fold up like a suitcase. Hilarious.

That said, I know a guy with 220K on a 3.5 Ecoboost. I doubt its seen anything close to the redline. He knows shit isn't built for that.

Bought it brand new off the showroom floor. 6.2l..

Have had the shocks rebuilt 5 times. They leak, they leak, they leak... AND the valving sucks, it's been a pain in the ass.

FOX sent me new seal heads and everything.

The stability system in this truck is the biggest joke I've ever seen, ALMOST as bad as the drive By wire throttle that had a mind of its own. Ball joints out of the truck in 30,000 miles, tranny at 40,000. The list goes on and on.

Sure would be nice if those crew cabs came with 7 foot beds. Or I'd settle for a 6 7/8th bed.Smile Just give me enough to close the gate with a bike straight in. My 6 3/4 foot F250 will close about 1/2 the time without kicking a bike sideways.
Let some air out of the tires. Presto, 4 inches clearance.

Dang Newmann!! They are nice tools, and cool new tech, but you're going to have to do a lot of structural repairs on F150't to pay for those!

The math didn't work out for me. I have attended the icar classes for Ford's aluminum trucks but have chose not to invest in the equipment to repair them at this time. I just don't fix enough Ford trucks to see the return on my investment needed.

We've done a few bedsides where I borrowed aircraft rivets and tools from a friend of mine. That was a lot of work. Here in Southeast Texas, trucks are king and with the recent release of the aluminum Super Duty and Chevrolet just around the corner with their offerings I put off the purchase about as long as I could. As fast as the industry is changing, I'm sure this won't be the last item I buy that will have a slow return on investment. Sad

I'm 85k miles into my 2013 duramax and I still love it! I know sometimes it comes down to luck but I have not been back to the dealer since I left the lot the day I picked it up in August of 2013. It's ltz (loaded) and all the electrical bells and whistles still work. Not even the typical GM power window motor or power lock actuator has gone bad yet. Still on original batteries, brakes, front end parts, light bulbs, etc. Had a very small oil pan leak when new that I tightened myself, still moist down there but never drips in the carport, good enough for me.

I deleted the dpf and blocked the egr at 40k miles because I love the truck and I want it to last, lol! New aftermarket downpipe while I was in there. Nice Mild tune, nothing crazy, should be around 500hp at the crank. 18mpg to and from work (half city, half highway) on 295/70r17 cooper st maxx a/t's (heavy 33x11.5). 21.5mpg on a road trip. And those figures are by hand not on the DIC. I can get 2mpg better with the stock wheels and tires . . . but im too vain, lol

anyway that's my .02

good to know about those problems.

The wife has the 3.5L Ecoboost in her Edge Sport. Thing gets like 16-18 mpg around town, not happy with that! I really didn't want the ecoboost for her, really unnecessary for a around town grocery getter. That mpg is close to what I get in my 5.7L v8 Tundra is Angry

not to mention some "adaptive steering failure" light just came on, her car only has 6k miles on it

All these stories about electronic issues, engine failures, and poor mileage. I think I'll stick with my 97 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 12 valve Ex-Cab LB for now. Just turned 125,000 miles.

2015 King Ranch with 31,000 miles. Far superior to any truck I have ever owned (seven), and my first Ford. It is 4x4 but rides smoother than the Mercedes C300 I owned prior to the truck.

GM will be going nonferrous In the near future ,the rest will follow as soon as they can figure out where to buy the aluminum from.

Who said chevy was making an aluminum body? According to Forbes, GM just spent 12 million dollars on an ad campign bashing Ford's aluminum body. You've probably seen one of the commercials where they trash the aluminum bed floor of an F150. The commercial isn't really exaggerating either. the bed floor is way too soft.

...how does GM reconcile those ads with their own aluminum truck. Steel bed floor maybe?
