I just don't really get the appeal of having an outrageous online persona. Screwing with people in person so you can see the fruits of your labour, yes. Online anonymously, not so much.

I've read before where people say Vital is a joke, kind of pisses me off, this place rocks. A lot of very smart people post here, I'm not one of them lol. Is there other moto web sites, and if so, why go there. This is a fun place to go, and the mods do a great job. Thanks for all you do. Smile

For the record, I've been on a two-day mini-vacation here in NYC.

I just hit the delete button on all of JB151's posts, and did the same for his second account.

In short, don't go to someone's house, piss on their shoes, point out that you're pissing on their shoes while smiling at them, and expect things to be all good.

I've been laid up since Tuesday after a surgery on my foot and I wasn't sure if his posts were real or I was just massively hallucinating from the pain killers.......Laughing

To the OP...
As for the sign-up process, sms verification is the ticket these days (scripts that dont accept google voice numbers etc..).
Make them give a number that sends them a text they have to reply to with an activation code.
However it doesn't fully stop them if they pay for a verification service.
But if they did pay for one then they'd be wasting their money to troll (which to me that even makes them bigger jackasses).
It could also be setup to make them verify again after a certain amount of posts to verify it's their number and not a verification service.
But yeah, email verification is sorta a thing of the past.
So easy to make tons of emails etc...
Sms or even a call is the new standard.

Even trying to filter ip's is sorta silly these days...most can restart their phone(wifi not enabled) and have a new ip from their mobile provider or use proxies and there's tons of VPN services out there ,using public wifi spots etc...
It's one reason why image canvasing has become big and also tracking and filtering user agents.

Interesting points, Eddy. I hope Gibby and ML read it and passed it on to their IT guys at Vital.

The Jaguars forum has a rule where your first five posts have to be approved by a mod. Sometimes it took a day or so to get that post approved, but I'm sure that helps filter out many of drive-by mouth "shooters."

The death comment on Jeffro's part took it too far though. Two wrongs don't make a right and it was after the the guy was cut, no reason to go that far at that point. He's been around long enough to know to just drop me, GuyB, or Scottie a quick word if someone is that over-the-top...

The fact that Vital gets referenced outside of Vital cements the fact that it's not a joke. A lot if knowledge and experience in here. I hate it when things go sideways, but the good things are definitely good!
