Not trying to tear him down, just pointing out the obvious. Watch his other videos, his skill is nowhere near the level of the other riders doing stuff like this. More of a hucker, probably better than early Seth Enslow but still way down on the food chain. Ballsy but it was probably bound to happen.
This. There are hundreds if not thousands of guys who have jumping skills(Or Just balls), and do massive 200 foot or bigger gaps all the time. Jumps that make supercross triples look like stutter bumps.

Most are at best slow B level speed though on a track though.

I have a problem watching people do things that are very life threatening that they would not be doing if the camera wasnt on them.

Edit: to be clear i dont think this jump in particular is too bad.

Way way back when, Myself and the guy I grew up racing with would ride 3+ days a week at many of the same spots.we found sketchy stupid shit that I can't believe we lived through. But that was also that we had a goal in mind as we were racing 2 classes in the pro class every weekend and pushing yourself was just part of it and went with the territory.
I don't mind that these guys do this stuff as its only them wadding themselves up. I don't entirely understand why if there is no reward of some kind on the other side but hey who am I to judge.? Just don't come crying to me when you bust your shit up either.....

I dont get all the hate on the guy. Whats different from a guy doing a massive jump, to the average joe going racing on the weekend. Both are fairly pointless. Average joe has no shot of making moto a career, but races for the thrill, and puts his life at risk in the process.

I'm with you, dumb.

Saw the clip on the news with the guy who did it 10 yrs ago (morrison). He didn't do anything for the sport either. Sounded pretty dumb.

only difference is this dude didnt make this one. bet you watched a clip of the same dude jump the freeway and said that shit was cool.

You are spot on. Stupid shit like this does nothing at all to advance our sport. It just makes people think that's how all riders act.

I doubt the internet fame is what motivates this guy. It's like Nitro Circus, no amount of money or fame can motivate those guys to pull off the tricks they do, you just gotta love pushing yourself and the sport.

Im thinking more about the guy thats going for the long jump record over 400 ft or if anybody is familiar with the career progression of Dean Potter. Internet fame is one thing but there are people that need to keep pushing the limits to keep their sponsors to make money because pushing the limits to very very extreme ends is what they get paid to do. At some point it kinda becomes daredevil porn and it feels kinda dirty. But thats just my opinion.

Ah, I see what you're saying now and that absolutely makes sense. That's one of the reasons I get scared about moto becoming more mainstream, because with more money being thrown around comes more obligation and less of it is for the passion, if that makes sense. I can totally see how these guys can get trapped into having to go bigger and bigger even if they do t want to, and that just seems wrong to me for sponsors to push that. In the end it's obviously their decision, but I can see how it would be hard not to give in to that pressure.

And Dean Potter killed himself trying to fly a wingsuit through a narrow gap in Yosemite......

So worth it broseph..

Only thing being pushed in his near future is the button for the drip. Long term he's likely pushing his financial security right out a ten story window. Last but not least the biggest pushing yet to be done will be handled by his insurance company if he has it. Hope he has an ironclad policy, because nothing says insure me more than doing extreme sports while trespassing. Better be tagging an agent at his local branch or have a good lawyer.

Only way I see justifying doing something like this is if it was to substantially benefit you financially, and if it was that important the lip should have been prepped to glass, no kickers.

Might sound like a dick but as my dad would calmly sternly say to me had I did this, WTF is wrong with you, are you an idiot? At that moment as he crosses his arms, shakes his head, and turns to walk away regardless of injuries sustained that would be the most painful thing for me..

Good luck on the healing process, and learn from your mistakes.
