This is cool news. I have really started to admire the GP's over the past few seasons and this announcement only makes it better.

This would be a great "come back" race for JS7...

New track all sand except for the double step up, vet track, but could be made pro with a bulldozer easy. Old track is too short for a GP I think, so they will either combine the two or use the new one (diamondback). I would guess they will combine the two and you will have one great track. Since they are doing an AM race too, I just wonder how you are gonna fit all the rigs and then have room to park thousands of spectators???? At the mini o's they use all the space, and have really few spectators. There are fields nearby they could lease for parking and bus.

Gonna be super hot and humid. That is why you will never see a national in FL.

I'm in as long as the track drops into the quarry and uses the elevation changes that Gatorback has had since the mid-70's. That's a traditional motocross track that is worthy of a GP. I put down a lot of laps on that track in the 80's. And the lap times were long enough for plenty of outdoor Nationals to be held there. With the new push for sub-2 minute laps so TV can cover everything it should be fine.

If they just hold it on the new man made track, I'm not gonna travel 14 hours from Texas to see that. I can go to Jerryworld for the annual circus or drive up to Colorado for the outdoors instead.

The old National track is big enough for a GP. Most GP tracks try and have a lap time between 1:45-2:00.

Also the spectator count will most likely not be larger than the Nationals that were held there in the 80s and 90s. So if the parking situation is similar to back 20 years ago there should be no problems with spectator parking/viewing.

Hopefully it's well attended and it becomes the new permanent home for the GPs in the states. It's an underserviced area for pro racing and could establish a new pro racing history.

Awesome the race with be in my back yard.

Personally I think they could have picked a better place. Gatorback is nothing like it was. Over half the track is different from the Nationals. Biggest jump is 40 feet, evelvator has been gone for almost 10 years.
They will have to do it of work for spectating. They have only one set of stands behind the staring gate . You also can't walk around the track. You can only spectate from one side that is mostly flat land. Hopefully they bring in huge stands for a lot of people.

Parking they will most likely use the fields across the street. They used them when the national was there. I think the Lady who really owns the land owns across the street as well. Her house is in the aerial view. She is the lady that sells ice. If you've been to the mini os you know who she is.

"Add the fact that Unlimited Sports MX will host national-caliber amateur racing on this same Labor Day Weekend and Gatorback Cycle Park is going to be the capitol of the entire motocross world come the first of September."

I was told by the Gatorback guys it will be on the original course with some updates done to it. At the time, I was unaware of the amateur day before the race, so no telling what they'll use. I'm guessing the new Diamondback course....

We'll be out there again for another race in about 6 weeks, so It'll be interesting to see any changes done by then...

GP race will be on the original track with updated layout from what it is currently, parking will be extended to the surrounding fields. If you haven't ridden gatorback in a few years you'd be really surprised actually how sandy and rutted it gets now with all the beach sand and wood chips they've been mixing in. The new track "diamondback" is almost 95% grayish cow pasture sand and super rough and loamy. They may be mixing in the top portions up near the original tracks start section into the GP as well but not much if at all. Will be upgrading existing spectator stands and bringing in temporary stands as well, never a problem watching the races here anyways though. I personally cannot wait for professional MX to finally return to THE REAL southeast and was in attendance as a baby at the last AMA national here and will definitely be attending this to come full circle lol

Hahahaha Yeah right! Do you really think she is gonna let you skip out on a day in the parks, that im certain she's spent HOURS planning on Pinterest. If she does however say YES! Hold onto her tight dude shes a KEEPER!
Ha ha, i already know the answer before asking "yes!"
We have combined a west coast road trip with Washougal, New York with Unadilla, Vegas with ME cup and this May the last round of the sx!
She's been a keeper for the last 23 years, she has grown to appreciate the perks of motocross. Cool

I dont know why people are worried about parking, there was nationals held there for what 20 years or so, and safe to say there was more spectators then.

The 1989 national when RJ got hurt drew just under 7,000 spectators. If the numbers are not that great for spectators it won't make Luongo happy.

Was just at the harescramble race held there this past weekend too. There is obviously some work to be done, just like every track, but it will be awesome! My family will definitely be there!

Why is this track no longer a part of our outdoor nationals?

I'm definitely going. IMO, the parking isn't the problem, it's the getting in and out with the roads they have access to. So pumped we finally get a quality pro race in this part of the country. Props to who ever decided to put it there.

Tomac will wax the field but it will still be diminished by the usual suspects because the guys who are racing for a title aren't racing Tomac , and it's on American soil blah blah blah. GPs that aren't held on the European Continent are looked down upon by many of the GP faithful and not considered "real" GPs. All that said I'm looking forward to this event.

The Backmon family and friends will be there. Like Kijen says, "Where do we get tickets!"

And don't you all worry, I will have my fur coat washed and braided. September in Florida? You can bet I'll be without a shirt, and I'll want to put my best man fur on presentation.

What's the over/under on the amount of spectators in attendance that will be reported?

And...

The proverbial " World Championship" WILL somehow have been decided by this round, so no "Euro" riders will contemplate "busting ass" and will "Ride Sensibly" . Wrapped up, no need to go hard, just want to go home. Pfffft.

WELCOME BACK FLORIDA!

For us Motocross is the greatest sport in the universe but You've just gotta be honest with yourself and admit it's just a niche sport, investors are only interested in numbers. Was this winter busy myself with writing and later on pitching a business plan and experienced it myself this being said, I think this a step in the right direction hope this collaboration succeed this sport can only grow if the three promoters find some common ground and work together same for the fans back and forth arguing AMA vs MXGP leads to nothing.

Ah yes the best way to combat bullshit comments is by preempting the bullshit comments by making a bullshit comment..
