No, because he said in his last statement to the public/media, he "wasn't done" and was "doing it for my fans". And, if you would slow down and read the english that I typed my "diatribe" in...I said, that a professional athlete just as an entertainer has an understanding that a PORTION of his life is for public consumption...not all of it.

And, how did James just prove me wrong...by not doing any of that?
Fair enough, I just don't agree with you on this particular subject.

I do not know for a fact, but he is probably still getting paid by Red Bull and Bell. Regardless, he OWNS a Motocross gear brand with his NUMBER as the BRANDS NAME.

Not currently getting paid doesnt relinquish anything if he ever intends to get paid again...

Do you think Leonardo DiCaprio blows his image and stays out of the public eye when he is not currently signed and working on a movie? Hell no! He is in between gigs and invested in his future gigs.

Ask Tim Tebow if he cropped out of the public when he lost his gigs, heck no, he had to be out there signing autographs and peddling his brand.

If James says he is done and retired and wants to go and play golf, then he can do that. But stringing along his fans is not going to help him sell gear, keep his current sponsors or find new ones if he intends to race for money again.

There's really not a way to say this without sounding like a dick, so I apologize in advance, but based on some of the things you've said in this thread and other threads I now realize it's probably a waste of time to have this conversation.
I'm wondering if he's literally in limbo and doesn't know what he wants to do himself. The skill is there, maybe the fitness isn't, but could be, but its a lot of hard work, and he doesn't exactly have a ride lined up, but could muster the support if he really tried, but he's got a family now, and is healthy... but boy could he turn some heads if he gave it 100%... is it worth it? Is it not? Ahhh I just added another 4 paragraphs to another JS thread.
Since we're all rampantly speculating here (and/or making up the laws that govern man and athletes), I put my vote on the above. Maybe he likes the idea of making a comeback, but doesn't want to put in the work (time) to get to a point where he thinks he'll be competitive. He has stated in the past that his time off during the WADA suspension allowed him to "learn how to be happy" or something to that effect. Like many pro racers, his life has revolved around dirt bikes since he was essentially a baby. If he's now happy being a dad, husband, golfer, whatever....fantastic! Like Dungey said, "it's just a dirt bike race." If, on the other hand, he makes one more go at racing, we'll all be watching him (fans and haters alike) more than any other rider. So maybe he IS conflicted. Maybe he doesn't want to put the nail in the coffin yet, hence the "I'll be back" type statements, but hasn't yet gotten to the point (and maybe never will) that he is ready to return. Letting go of being "the fastest man on the planet" surely can't be an easy thing for someone whose life has been defined by success on a dirt bike.

....and another very real possibility that gets overlooked: post-concussion syndrome still bothering him?

Yeah, he does have the right to do whatever he wants, I have always made that clear. However, like I said, your rights to do as you please do not preclude anyone elses either. So if you do not provide information, or you do provide mis-information, then people have a right to speculate, just as they have a right to say fuck this noise I am moving on.

Based on the JS7 forum topics...there are a lot of fans that are speculating, some have moved on and who knows what. So many people interested due to his fandom, that the responses are wide ranging, and no one has any facts or is right or wrong.

I hope he races this weekend, I tune in EVERY SAT at Noon and watch practice, hoping he is there. I wish he would come out and say, Hey Fans, i know I am not racing, but I am still trying to get out there and I will see you at X race. Or just say I have no plans to race in the near future due to X reasons, but I am NOT retired, please stay tuned to X (location/website/twitter, etc) for updates. Thats not real hard to say, and it would be a proper thing to say to your fans. Do "I" NEED him to say that? Hell no, I am a grown ass man and I got my own bills to pay and family to raise. I will watch the races and root for Mookie or the fastest Red Rider at the moment.

He's not in limbo, hes in a nice gated community abot 45 minutes from his parents house where he golfs 3 to 4 times a week and has a boat docked in the back yard.

In other words he's enjoying the life of a man that's pay his dues

No, I really doubt it's that big of a deal. My main point my response to what you said was regarding 15th place. Damn near everyone above him in the points standings has at least a regional title. It's not like the dude is missing mains.

You know, man...I believe you're right, and I don't blame the guy one bit for it. If I were in James' situation...I'd do that too. I guess I'm selfish in that I'd like the guy to say "Hey, you know what...I'm just over it!". I'd respect that more than simply walking off the grid. And once again...maybe I'm just being selfish.

Hey.. Here's a wild theory. What if he is training his ass off and doesn't let the public know on purpose. Then he shows up at Hangtown and goes 1-1. Wouldn't bet on it but would be cool.

Is it possible he has had too many concussions and is waiting for a recovery, similar to Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Has this topic been brought up lately? Sorry if it has, but I never saw it.

I would think if he's actually still planning a comeback, then yes this could likely be what's going on. He must know this time off isn't going to make things any easier for a comeback.

That really was an unfortunate injury, but as others have said a million times, it's also strange that he didn't seem prepared for A1 2016.

I hope he does NOT race this year. I hope he loses his number 7 And comes back NEXT year with number 259 on a kawi and announces his retirement I think we could all appreciate that

I have completely stayed out of these threads but as another SX season is heading towards the finish, I think the real mystery is ... why don't we see any of the top MX media sitting down with James and asking him straight up what is going on. This is clearly a topic of interest in the sport, yet month after month goes by and everyone is left guessing.

Or are interview requests being refused?

Guy B, any light you can shed on this?

yeah, I seriously wonder about the industry when it comes to this.. or the riders are afraid to speak out and up. i have no clue.

However recently Weege went to roczens house and got a full on video interview (which was great and is currently on racer x website)..... I wish that was possible with james

That's exactly my point. The dude commented about him ONLY being able to get 15th, and my point is that almost everyone in the top 15 has equal or greater career accomplishments. Perhaps I'm just easily impressed, but being a 15th place rider in the 450 class is pretty damn good
