He needs to wear red gear. Red is the color of aggression.
To your point, I agree. From a spectator point of view, it appears he is protecting himself. Or riding safe as some call it. Is it physical? Mental? I don't know. He does not appear to have the edge he displayed last year. And the first couple races this year.
I do know that even with Ryan not appearing to be himself, on any given night he is still faster than all but a guy or two. I wish him the best and hope he finishes out the season going strong.
something is up! this is not normal for him, no bashing just opinions. between qualifying, heat races, mains, he doesn't seem right.
No, nothing is wrong other than there are other guys that are faster than he is or that he is willing to go. He broke his neck last year. Don't look for him to push like he used too. Injuries like that slow racers down mentally.
Compared to how amazing he looked last year I think it's a fair observation / question. Regardless of what it is he'll probably still win the title though. I would guess a niggling injury - he definitely looks significantly off his game.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's some hidden injury but maybe he's just a little off. There are some fast mfer's this season and he's not riding as perfect as he has. It's not like anyone but Tomac or Musquin is gonna catch and pass him though. While we're all freaking out about what's wrong with him he's leading the series by 16 over a guy who probably isn't championship caliber yet.
Last two years he would bust out early in qualifying and be at top top or in the top 3. Aggression in the heats, hole shots in the main and fast confident passes. Maybe this year he's playing it safe to make it the distance and possibly looking to retire. He's been at it a long time and maybe the fire just isn't burning as hot as it used to.

Agreed. Definitely much different this year. I am wondering if it is an illness or maybe Epstein-Barr
Waiting for tomac to yard sale and then just cruise into a title.
its not just tomac, moose is no joke and might be holding the red plate after vegas. I don't thing dungey is a headcase, I think their maybe an injury hes working threw
Dunge does seem to be making more mistakes than normal. All results and championship points discussions aside, he doesn't seem to be riding as consistently and mistake free as he has in the past. It's one thing to get beat by Tomac who is riding like a beast, but to get run down and easily passed by Marvin (granted, he's riding very well though) tells me something isn't quite right with him.
Dungey is winning the 2017 championship. He knows any given moment Musquin is gonna have terrible night and we'll Tomac is nearly a race down in points. Looks like Dungey is cruising to another championship. These tracks have been shit so why should he risk everything.
Guys stepped up their game this year and are ridding at a faster pace, I think dung can run that pace if he needed. But he's an og. He has nothing to prove. He'll just get out there and cruise. Score 5th/2nd place finishes. Collect points each week. He's consistent always has been. The other guys aren't. If he gets the hole shot and gets a gap in feel like he will then step it up to keep the lead. But that's just my opinion.
is he being held back? I would hope not, but there are guys that are beating him and racing him as good as they were in their early days when they were somewhat dominant. I dont think they have gotten better "again", but there is definitely something going on. I certainly hope not and call me every name you want, but this season seems "rigged" so there is racing for the top 4 or 5 throughout a main event instead of one (Dungey) totally leaving the rest behind.
It looks like he's in early protection mode and not really hanging it out to try and keep up. He's taking a solid finish and moving on to the next week and just knocking them off the calendar with the red plate. If the points tighten up, he will step it up. Let's not forget the speed in San Diego where only KRoc was able to match?
I agree there isn't anything "wrong" with him and he is just doing this the diesel way and waiting it out. But, it almost feels like he's is getting complacent in that strategy as Tomac and Musquin are fired up right now with 9 rounds to go. 1 misstep on being conservative every race could screw it all up.

He looks exactly the same as he did when RV was racing now that there are a couple guys with more raw speed.
RD is about consistency he has never had the raw speed to hang with the faster guys and obviously still doesn't.
Not bashing him he knows where his strength is and keeps to his game plan there still a lot of racing to go so i don't see him concerned at this point.
Roczens crash is in his head, you could see it in the post race press conference at A-2... He's married wants to start a family... he's not going to push the envelop anymore.

Haha, do you think Feld dropped off a dumptruck of cash to Ryan and asked him nicely to make this interesting and not put the sleeper hold on the series since Roczen is gone?

This.
He's not the same since KR crash. Maybe he will step it up when his points lead will be in real danger, but it seems like he's more focused on staying consistent and healthy right now. He has nothing to prove anyway.

Injury or illness is my guess, I doubt he became a head case overnight.
