Received my electric start kit today. It looks like a massive job. So many pieces and with no instructions.
Not going to bother installing it .

Surprised to see that you're running both the front brake lever and the rear pedal; those parts could easily be removed and kept in new condition, the same goes for the seat and clutch lever(gonna have to bump start).
Calm your tits, we have different plastics and graphics on the way home, i didnt want to ruin the stock plastics on the first run, as we were riding on a snow mixed rainy day of -0 degrees C.

I have an 8 plate full Hinson clutch ready and waiting to go on mine. Have already added ARC levers, Raptor Ti pegs, Emig lock on grips. I also have a complete graphics kit. Pictures will be added one day.

Same. I got a quote from my local shop of $700-$1000 for installation. Pretty pricey when the parts were already $850. It's too bad it didn't just come stock. I'm going to bite the bullet for the convenience but I wouldn't do it again.

Looks like you have to dismantle half the bike for the install. Looks more like a winter project.

Looks like it would be more cost effective to buy the 17 RX model (if ES desired) & add a 19 in. rear wheel & remap to R specs. The suspension would need some work as well, but most serious racers / riders revalve & respring anyway. The RX is only $400 more retail & it's suppose to be the same bike with some changes noted above.

Or Honda could just offer to install the e start for their customers if they buy the additional e start for 800 bucks or what ever it costs.

It's very easy to see why KTM and Husqvarna are gaining market shares in our sport.

My thoughts are Honda might offer it on the R model as an option from the factory in 2018. I think one of things they're going to base it off of is how many ES kits are sold this year.
As far as the orange & white KTM's maybe so at the moment. I've ridden a couple of KTM's & couldn't come to grips with the handling due to the bad WP suspension. Not impressed with them personally.

UK dealer i spoke to this week reckons the e-starts take them about 5 hours to fit now. They have to fit it to all the bikes as it's a standard feature here, but comes seoerately from Honda. Getting mine next week-ish hopefully. Guess it's s first yr thing, i'm sure 18s will come fitted from the factory

Heard that! Sorry for giving you a hard time; I used to know a kid that taped up everything on his bike just to keep his plastics "Fresh"

For the purpose of maintaining stock plastics for resale, this is a great idea. I am the asshole here, sorry.

He is probably charging labor by hours so he says its 5 hours. My friend did it 3 hours without instructions (he works at dealership).

That's good, no they're not charging hours as they have to fit them on all the UK bikes as standard.

this, my friend did his in 3 1/2 hours at home, he just followed the video above...

Personally I like the fact that Honda gives you the option of EC. Perhaps yes they could do that in 2018 pre-installed (ala RX) as a option when ordering the bike

Yea Honda did a crap job on this project. Plus after spending all the extra $$$ on the electric start kit, they don't include the kick starter plug. That has to be ordered separate. Seriously what a bunch of tards running the show at Honda. Disappointed big time.

Fortunately, I received the whole electric start kit for free. In Australia, if you pre ordered the bike . They gave it out as part of the deal. Just have to install myself.

I've been wondering for a while and thought I'd figure it out on my own but for the life of me, I can't figure why people refer to it as EC instead of ES. WTF?

Man I would love one of these bikes. Just don't think I'm ready for a 450 after only riding 250f and 125 for a couple years. Beautiful bikes.

Got mine a few weeks ago. Got the 1 1/8 bar mounts, twin wall bars, with a WC clutch perch. And an hour meter. I'll post a pic of how I mounted it. Alittle different, but I like it. It's hidden but yet still easy to see.

Got black wheels on order, alone with the ES kit that I'm waiting on to release from Honda!

Actually this topic was about showing your Honda CRF450R, so...

The electric start comes free here in Finland also (if you order yours before end of February). Seems that this whole electric start thing is the biggest issue for people that are not planning to get Honda anyways
