I like Ralph and you can get a good sense of his experience from one of the PulpMX interviews with Emig (who is outstanding as a commentator). That being said, Shaheen seems slightly misplaced in this sport imo. Stating the obvious and lacking the authenticity that an Emig or Bailey have hurts us, but I've heard the same criticism for the riders themselves over the past few years... so maybe the problem stems from somewhere else.

The decision to keep Ralph seems like the corporate safe bet (and now it's me stating the obvious), which is in some way, offensive to the sport. The sport is the coolest on Earth, people either see it or they don't. I understand having a more "professional" announcer in the booth has its upside, and maybe it helps us achieve more credibility within the world of sports at large, but Ralph represents that safe bet to such a degree, it's not only a drawback to the program, but the decision seems almost condenscending.

Ralph would be fine if he could shoot from the hip, but if that's not going to happen, then is there no one else who'd want this job, who looks the part, has the executive gravitas, but also the authenticity? Ralph seems like an oustanding person in general, so it's definitely hard to root against him, and he has gotten better for Supercross over the years -- he and Emig seem to work well together, but it could be cool to see how Jeff works with someone new in the booth.

Again however, Emig's interview with Matthes went into some depth on this, and you come away with a lot more respect for Shaheen after listening to it.

Very good points and I agree that a more relatable person to the sport is what us hard core fans would like to see. The other Xtreme sports go that route.
"Suits" are the future of SX from what I hear.

Ralph does a great job. It amazes me that people remember examples of the minor mistakes. It's like they write them down to remember to start some dumb thread after the race.

I love Ralphs excitement about the small things. Helps keep the snooze fest races somewhat exciting. If you want to talk about horrible on tv talk about julliana or w/e her name is MS. SX. absolutely horrible imo. just like DD

Yes. Ms. Monster Energy is absolutely horrible. Clearly not comfortable on camera, thought maybe it was just cause it was her first year, but she is still horrible, I don't care how hot she is, she's terrible.... they could give her a segment showing baby's in front of a TV watching the race tho.... oh wait they already do.

Watch some NFL games and listen to the announcers. Half of them are much worse than Ralph, and that's a way bigger sport with ludicrous amounts of money. Chill out on Ralph. Do you really think the best broadcasters in the industry are going to want to commit to calling Supercross races for a full season? He's pretty damn good considering the market share SX has.

Ralph says annoying things sometimes and injects drama where it doesn't exist. That said, he also does a fine job. No one is perfect. Shoot, even people in my life that I love can be annoying sometimes. My wife only hears me complain about Ralph so she'd be surprised to hear me say positive things about his broadcast method. I loved Art E. but he jacked things up all the time and was beloved for his mistakes. Why is he immune to the complaints? I see Art and Ralph as very similar.

The stadium announcers are a different layer of broadcasting/announcing but I personally do not like the Erv Braun or Larry Huffman style of being loud and dramatic. Most of the time the drama is fabricated and it's insulting that they think we the fans are dumb enough to fall for it. I understand that not everyone is a die hard fan and may be new to this sport. But it doesn't take long to figure out that the loudness isn't usually warranted.

Keep up the good work Ralph, I love it when you crack on both Emig and RC. Keep those guys on their toes.

With all of the TV executives that inhabit this site, you'd think the entire SX/MX TV package would be 100% perfect. None of you have even the slightest fucking clue what it takes to put a local cable access TV show on the air, much less something the size of a Supercross race. But by all means, keep shitting on the people who do it for a living...

yeah you're probably right about that...

Ralph does a fantastic job IMO - that role is harder than you think. Its a nice counter balance to Emig - who of course is very knowledgeable, but sometimes a little monotone

Props to Ralph - he keeps it exciting
