Monster energy has the funds to produce a six $ digit goonies film in the desert, but can't organize an event that pays out the riders enough money for what it costs any of them to even race...

If this is accurate, it's pretty sad this risks these guys take for such a small purse. It would be cool if somehow the sport could rise to Nascar status.

Jeff Alessi didnt start the LCQ and had a bigger pay out than Austin Forkner.
Kinda weird... Maybe the 450 class has a higher sign up fee or something, idk

In the past, I've given the euros on this board some grief about the lack of any sort of purse in the gp series during the ama vs gp 'discussions'. I apologize.

1. If there was no purse money every one of those dudes would still be there to race.
2. Nobody in that main is paying to be there
3. Attention span of the average monster energy customer is better fit for fire, trucks, TNA, dirt bikes, big jumps. If they spent 100k on that film- YouTube ad's will ROI that bitch so fast your head will spin.
4. I make $17.43 an hour at FedEx, if Tyler Bowers makes $850 a week and puts in 45 *actual hours of labor* that's $18.89 an hour (I'm sure he knows how to write off everything so it's unlikely he's paying much to Sam). Sounds like a good gig to me, honestly. I'd do it. Or would I? Well, I used to. But then I realized there are better jobs out there.

Promoters won't pay out till they're made to.

The teams have let ALL the riders down big time.

One sweeping movement from them, the sport would have the changes it needs.

I was interested in what the prizemoney is in motogp to compare and it seems that Mx2 winner gets a bigger check than moto 2 and moto 3 boys in the motogp circus. Maybe the top guys in moto 2 and 3 have a higher salary, i dont know. But the top guys in both sports does not live off of the pricemoney.

It sucks for a privateer with no salary though.

But as long as the big boys get their way and keep the sanctioning bodies' only allowing the machines they want to be legal (no cc for cc, etc) and making profits for their respective corporations, they aren't going go to bat for their their subcontracted riders that get the 1099 at the end of the year. Subcontractors can be easily replaced. Investments in R & D and tooling / production effect the bottom line a lot more. Don't make waves and keep the money flowing...

Not trying to start a 2T v 4T debate. That may not be the best example but I believe the mfgs' don't / won't push some issues as long as they get their way on the big ones.

NASCAR sets the rules and tells the participants "here are the rules, take 'em or leave 'em."
AMA says "what do you guys (mfgs') want us to do?"

Yes because Nascars race consists of readily available cars to the public......the logic on this forums blows my mind sometimes....

Promoters making millions at riders expense. Time to pull together and refuse to race on live tv. Empty gates!!!!! That would get it done but only if nobody raced. It would be a disaster for feld, but it would get alot of media.

It's been said by DC himself the reason it's not CC to CC for 2-stroke/4-stroke is because he's afraid the OEM's will walk - so to say this is crazy logic is even crazier...

It's almost impossible to compare MotoGP and SX.

Easiest way to explain: You wont see a 40 year old trying to qualify for Qatar GP on a Honda NSR 500. But you can see a 40 year old try to qualify for A1 on a 250 2 stroke. There is no such thing as a privateer in the MotoGP classes.

The way these 2 series are set up is so much different and MotoGP is way bigger.

Why are you guys so concerned with how much riders make? They could give a shit about how much you or I make. They knew what they were getting into when they chose this profession.

Mr. Suzuki says DC "you run 450 2 stroke now, we love you long time, otherwise we go".......yea, ok. SMH.

Yeah well... Unlike Road Racing, which is the example cited EVERYTIME, dirtbikes R&D for each mfg, is specific to competition.

Not one mfg needs to go road racing to sell road bikes that are completely marketed as a form of transport.

Dirt bikes however... They ain't leaving their sales and investment because of a rule change. They didn't in 1998. They won't now.

And further to that... I'll start 2T debates all day long (Yeah, we know)... The pool that we're drawing from is getting smaller people.

MFGs being forced to bare the burden at the pro level whilst also selling less bikes that are noiser and more expensive doesn't paint a pretty picture. Not for them, the riders, or the promoters and Monster/RB will be the only ones getting out with their ass in the end. Suzuki had to goto their marine dept to go racing, after dropping a complete team effort and a major rider salary. WTF...

Pennies now or pounds later. The teams, or the MFGs should be fucking rioting.

This is pathetic. If I remember right back around 1991 or 1992 a rider would get either 1000 or 1200 for making at that time a 250 main while the 125 main you got about 200 or 250 and I think if you cracked the top 10 I think you got about $500. Considering how much the price of everything has gone up in this sport/industry since then the purse money seems horribly out of whack. With this purse money posted in this thread it almost seems amazing that there are 50 to 60 riders signed up at some of the rounds.

Great point. I keep trying to plug away in this industry even though many of us in it are making less now than we did 10 and even 15 years ago. We do it cause we love it (most of the time).

I now there are huge differences in how the different series are set up. But that doesnt take away the fact that the winner in mx2 gets a bigger pricemoney check than a moto 2 winner.

The top riders does not have pricemoney as their income.

And as i said, its not easy to be a privateer and race in mx. But is it different in any other sport? The top names/riders/athletes make the big bucks and the guy that finishes in 20th,without big sponsors, what does he get?

And also, have you guys seen felds budget for SX? Please post it and after that we can discuss if they can afford to pay the riders more money.
I for one wish every rider that qualifys for the sx main could make millions a year but that will never be the case.

Get MORE for "winning" the first few hundred feet.....than 6th place in the entire race.

I'd be bustin my ass being the best starter in the world!!!

I've harked so much on this (poor purse payout) in the past.. it's laughable or cryable.

I have always thought that the purse should start with the first privateer, now what a difference that would make for them. Why do contract riders need any more money ? Do they not get a salary & bonus paid on results too ?

Why? All riders PAY to be in the race, all riders should take in the winnings from said purse.

Whether one gets contracted or not has no bearing.

Hey Brocster...gettin older/fatter and if it could happen, even slower.

I don't agree. You should win purse money for your results, regardless of what your salary is.
