2017 KTM 450 SXF Engine Failure (Help)

12/5/2016 1:01pm
Yess 6 months warranty here in Holland too
12/5/2016 2:05pm
KTM will definitely cover it as long as you are diplomatic about it and don't act a clown. It's just going to be the inconvenience of the ordeal, pulling your engine and sending it back to the dealer plus time off the bike while it gets fixed that costs you. The dealer you bought the bike from is your best bet for the warranty as there's usually a loss in $$ for the labor paid by KTM to rectify the issue than what it actually takes unless you have done a few previously.
Don't forget to ask for a bottle of new coolant and oil.

Be a Jackhole and tell them you want a brand new bike. Tell them you have no confidence in this one any longer and threaten them with the lemon law and a lawsuit. If you cave and just allow them to fix it, don't put up with any discussion of back ordered parts as you know that same bike is sitting in a dealer somewhere and you are entitled to running bike NOW so strip one for parts. Demand they make your payments if it was financed and pay back your entry fee if you were racing or at least the track fee the day it blew up. How about that trip you were planning to take with the bike, they need to reimburse you for that also.

See how good KTM is when they are treated like Honda, Kawasaki and the other Japanese OEM's.

I wouldn't touch or troubleshoot anything on that bike until your dealer looks at it.....all that can do is help to void a warranty. Be nice till its time to not be nice Smile don't even drain the oil.....let them see it exactly how it ended, or they may balk.

Damn, some chippy dudes in this thread.

It sucks when something happens, especially on a Sunday and/or Monday (when dealers are closed) and you drive yourself crazy thinking about it. So, people reach out, on a forum, to hopefully help ease their mind with info that may be related. Sometimes people just want a little relief.

Shit happens, OP didn't start chastising KTM, just starting the process of fixing his issue.

It's a 6 month warranty on ktm and husky in the U.K. Seems strange you get 30 days across the pond
Yes, it does seem strange until you compare it to Japanese bikes (maybe Yamaha still has a 30 day). So, KTM's 30 day warranty is 30 days better than the other options. A 6 month warranty would be incredible!

A friend had this 450 Husky 2017 FC making sounds, also think it was a oil channel that was clogged so cam was destroyed.

First time i feel i hear something of an issue with the 2016-2017 KTM 450 SXF, besides the condensator mount.

Pretty sure they had a recall on some of the 2017 350-450's, something about a crank nut backing out and rubbing on the side of the case. You may check if they have VIN's listed for the recall. Good luck getting it sorted.

If the engine failed, then it failed. It seems the poster lives in a fairly obscure country, especially when it comes to moto, and our forum can be utilized as a large resource when it comes to gathering info on a problem...or being pointed in the right direction. At no point did the poster go on a rant about the product but has simply asked for assistance. Per the all-too-often usual around here, the question was answered with an unnecessary attitude. So yes, I use my head all the time to think my posts through from a logical standpoint.

From the 30 minute mark my friends were saying something sounds odd..But i was in denial with my new bike so i contnued to ride thinking that I've had Kawis and other brands and even other KTMS that sounded "odd" and never had issues..

Calling Palmetto Motorsports now.
We are bet, that small piece of steel was from factory..

my point was, ok, your engine blew up, that sucks. Call your dealer on Monday, see what they say. If you get nowhere then by all means, post a help me thread. But at least make a phone call first and see what they say. Many guys around here are quick to point fingers at the manufacture or a moto company anytime something doesn't go their way. And many times they put an unneeded blemish on said company, my opinion.

as far as being a little harsh, I am sorry to the OP

My 2007 Honda 450 locked up during a race...... Turned out a piece broke off the kick start mechanism and dropped into the works....stopped me cold going through the whoops.....almost over the bars..it was a sand track so it kind of swapped to a stop without any craziness ................the bike was 2 weeks in my hands, new off the floor........

Honda handled it.

You know you can still accomplish a lot with a great company like KTM without acting like a royal dick. Coming in hot like that when all that is needed is a simple explanation to KTM corporate. They will handle it. Do you know how many defective cars Ford or Chevy puts out a year?! God forbid 1 KTM has an issue and they have to hear your list of entitlements before they even get to offer help. Smh... what a joke! Save your ignorant suggestions. People around here are looking for solutions.

I'm thinking (hoping) this guy is saying that's how people over react to a failure with a Japanese made cycle and wonder why they get little response, so try acting the same way with KTM and see where you get???? Could of maybe been on the other side of the phone/counter to said requests??? I've experienced my far share of grieve from customers that make you want to do sweet FA to help them but nothing like that, but then I don't live in the good ol' law suit loving USA.

No shit what a useless prick.

Anybody have engine problems with 17s with low hours?, like there might be a common problem or a defect. Or how bout if others have the same problem, he has now put it out that it may be common. Pretty freaking simple

Were you 48 months old when your mother finally slapped you off the teet.

The only thing I would add is if you own a KTM, get your transmission Kryo treated. But KTM has been covering almost all the failures I've seen

Guys. I spoke with the dealer and they are workign with me to have the problem resolved - just like I knew they would.

I only posted here because I wanted to know if anyone else may have had similar issues and if so, then I was eager to hear of their resolution. KTM is a great company and I never doubted that this would eventually be resolved..

Thanks for those that posted with their support! I'll let you all know what the outcome of all of this is.

HI guys,

My new 2017 KTM 450 SXF locked up at the track ttoday with less than 2 hours on the hour meter. It felt like something in the engine just "let go" and it happened while under power, thank God it wasn't on the face of a jump....I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what was your experience like with KTM?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!
I have experienced the same issue. It is crazy how we are disciplined to accept these issues. Our plight was with a 2020 xc250f. Cam oil passage became clogged by something from within the engine. KTM dealer says we must have put dirt in the engine during an oil change. Please!! I want to spend 9k on a bike to have it sit in a shop for two months and incur a $2000 repair bill. There are way to many of these bikes failing. This is either a design flaw or a quality control issue. I accept things fail but come on guys!!
