I'll never own another new bike without e-start.

Greetings and Merry Christmas. My name is Sam and this is a great site. I am from Phoenix and I am thinking about buying a KX 500. This thread is of interest to me as I would love to have an e-start as I am older now and have a left artificial leg. Please tell me there is a product or way to have an Easy Button?

Thanks in advance.
Left artificial leg? You're good to go on that monster!

You just can't get a KTM MX500 OR CR480.

...And I just realized I am responding to a time traveler from the distant past.

I quit riding for a few years after suffering a hip dislocation on my right leg which made kicking over those 450's a very painful and scary task. Electric start ktm's brought me back to riding and enjoying hopping on dirtbikes again, at this point I will never own another bike without e start.

This

Except for my 125, because I can literally start it with my hand

i thought so myself. with it being from basically the beginning phases of the 450's to all the advancements we have now. it seemed like an appropriate bump

that is actually a really cool story! thanks for sharing. I think its cool to see how technological advancements help people achieve things they would otherwise not be able to do.

I start my bike with my left foot so I can remember starting CRs with left side kick with my right.
And I was riding big bikes at 10.
Dont ever tell a kid,
"If you can start it, you can ride it"

I could not care less about electric start. The KX450F is a very easy bike to start, if it is such a challenging proposition for me to just start the bike, how am I going to actually ride it, a task that takes 100 time
s as much effort?

Just give me some real forks, kawasaki. death to garbage air forks

You can say that again!

And here we are, 8 years later and the topic is still relevant (minus the optional '17 CRF).

You can keep your e start. No problem starting my 450 sitting on the seat.

I'll be 65 next month, no problems starting my 750 Shell kitted XS 650, YZ 360 Vintage scoot, or my '06 YZ 450. I would like to think a fellow that is 34 years old would be able to kick start his dirt bike. When I start feeling ;like whining, I usually just pull over and change my diaper... Smile
Like they say

"if you're gonna be dumb you gotta be tough"

Or

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks"

I am 29 and have had multiple leg injuries, I still kick my 250 2 stroke and 125....but I don't like it. Everytime I hop on my 350 and hit the button it makes me appreciate modern technology.

Old threads are old

I must be missing something. Why do some view kickstarting to be more cavalier than e start?

When I was a kid we had VW bugs that didnt have ac. I have never wanted to go back to that by not using the ac in cars that have it.

I dont want to go back to air cooled bikes because a radiator got a hole punched in it.

Maybe Im off base.

I'm not so sure the attitude is "cavalier" so much as it is "practical"... E starting is a wonderful thing, I tend to focus on keeping things simple, as I hate walking in my Alpine Stars. If I have an electric start on my KTM, (some of the new ones aren't provisioned with kick starters) and one of these wonderful Rekluse clutches, (which I DO) have) I find it very difficult to bump start my bike when the e start doesn't work (been known to happen) or the motor doesn't fire right away and the battery gets drained after bogging out in a water hole. On the newer Rekluse clutches, you can pull the side cover off, readjust the clutch clearance, put it all back together, and have a buddy pull you or bump start it yourself...Bikes are going to start coming sans a manual way to start the things, just like every car in the world today no longer has a hand crank to get it fired up. I'll go the way of electric start when A: the things are stone reliable. or B: when I get too lazy or infirm to kick the darn things...Smile

I'm gonna keep a couple of my kickstart bikes...I know they are going to have a special race at Glen Helen called the "Kick Start Nationals", much like the "Four Stroke Nationals", and later "The Two Stroke nationals"...I'll be ready..! Smile
