Think about it, they went where no man would go and took the risk, the dastardly KTM. Remember, broken frames, pogo suspension and career killer bikes?

I have to give those guys the credit they haven't gotten IMO. They developed the bikes that all the riders want to ride now. Just look at the top names riding KTM's now..unbelievable.

How many people would take that risk?

I agree, that risk was a massive risk and it really has paid off, they've come a long way in a few short years.

Did Cairoli and Herlings not help with it or have any input? Just seems weird that KTM would let Decoster and Dungey make a bike and then tell Cairoli and Herlings tough.

No doubt Roger has helped KTM.

Also KTM have been very clever in their FE models, one way of getting a better machine to their racers that 'most' of the general public wont get until the following years model...unless they pay a lot more for it...very cunning. So the public gets a good race machine (for those who can afford it) and KTM get extra income plus kudos from the public for giving it to them.
And given the numbers of bikes (in all forms) they produce compared to the Japanese manufacturers then they can do that (i.e. the Japanese manufacturers have production runs of models and dont have the flexibility that KTM have due to their massive numbers).

I tip my hat to KTM.

How come Dungey get s get huge credit for all the input on the bike . When time after time after time ., its been said what a terrible tester he is . Imo he had feck all input into the bike , bar saying what he wants it to do . 99% of the time the best testers and the guy s who make all the changes to the bike you have never heard of . ps iam a HUGE Dungey fan . and nowadays i dont think many of the top guys are great testers , ie , KROC is pretty terrible too imo

Yes, with Cairoli they have built an empire, although props must go to Pioneer Grant Langston in the USA , and earlier in Europe to Dobb, Langston. and Townley.

I like how Husqvarna is coming up too. Not long ago neither of them were even a blip on the MX radar. KTM was an offroad machine and Husky was non existent in America.

Regardless of any input he's had on the bike, I would definitely give Dungey credit for having the faith to switch over in his prime. That hasn't worked out so well in the past, at least not in the U.S.

And fast forward to how KTM is viewed from when he signed to now... I think that KTM ride is as sought after as much as any (and more than some) of the Japanese brands! If somebody had told me all of this 10 years ago, I might not have believed them.

He gets huge credit because he signed with them and won races and championships for them immediately. If dungey hadnt signed with them and they didnt have a championship contender with them, it wouldve probably took longer to get to where theyre at now and not 5 years.

Well , I would agree with the Townley part. I bought my first KTM 250sxf back in 04-05 after getting red of my Suzuki 250 rmz and kept saying to my riding mates," The future is bright, the future is orange!", the bike was much much better in my opinion and stuck with the pumpkin since.
