I'm just glad it wasn't his foot.

Toes aren't so bad.
I'll second this. Thank goodness it wasn't a foot or ankle.

Didn't they used to bring a 4th guy as an alternate?

Maybe that was way back when ...
Yes there used to be an alternative, this turned out to be a good idea, so they canned it.
I don't think it's a good idea at all. Imagine Roger DeCoster asking a rider/team to go to Europe, sending bikes, team members etc. when they might not even get to ride. It's just not practical

Teams are allowed to have a 4th rider. But you can only put that rider in BEFORE the the quali on saturday. As soon as every one in the team have had a moto gate drop, you cant put in the spare. Strange rule..

You would think that between saturday and sunday is the time you would nees a spare.

Not quite true... He was "benched" for a few races early in his 250 career.

I should have stated that he hadn't missed a race due to injury. He had a good streak going until the shoulder injury this year.

Is having a numb foot going to affect the feel for the brake, and if so is that going to cause problems on a track like this one that might be slicker than what a rider might normally ride?

Go team USA!!

Then his qualifier is that much more impressive. He passed a lot of riders in the qualifier.

It's his foot guys. We have Chase Yocom and Justin Westhead in Maggiora for the site and Chase confirmed it this morning.

Is it a widespread belief that bad things come in threes? I hope Jason's streak of unfortunate mishaps is over.

Baseball players have to be the biggest girlie men in sports
No way, that easily goes to men's soccer with Baseball being a distant second (specifically pitchers). To be fair, with respect to MLB pitching its not that they can't throw or deal with the pain, it's just that their performance level drops off so far that it doesn't make sense to play. Now men's soccer, that's a different story. It's amazing the hits women's soccer players can take and keep playing yet the men fall over the ground in writhing pain when they get kicked in the shin - while wearing shin guards.......
