Neither of those two have the number of titles that RV does.
By that standard. RV doesn't have the number titles of RC has.
I think the standards are a bit different; Pastrana won one title, and Stewart was win or crash. RV showed dominance throughout, and was a step above the other riders. Just my opinion, but I think RV in his prime would have offered a serious challenge to RC.

People in this sport pay way more attention to titles and wins than people in other sports do. Many people say that Bo is the greatest athlete of all time, and he did not have a long and illustrious career. Some will argue that Senna was better than Schumacher.

Ya, no kidding, they both had to race against RC! But both were arguably MUCH more talented/faster than RV.

No doubt! Kdub would have had a bunch of championships if RC wouldn't have been there! It seems easy for some people to forget how dominant Ricky was!

Can't tell if you are agreeing or disagreeing. I'd say disagreeing, but I'm not sure how you could. RC has WAY more wins and titles. Undefeated outdoors. His entire career, never lost an outdoor championship. He has twice as many outdoor titles as RV and more in SX also. The greatest of all time!!!

Titles yes, records NO! Name 1 record that RV owns outright. And dominating? RV was hardly dominating. 2013 outdoors was kinda dominating, but that was it! Oh and 2015 MXGP!Woohoo Laughing Btw, 2011 SX & MX titles belong to Dungey!Whistling IMO

Some people act like rv is the 2. No way, Mc was the 2 and rv did well with it while he had it.It has a great history of being on yamaha honda and kawi. I think coop should take the 2 but if he doesn't it looks like forkner could give it a good home if he can earn a single digit before someone else takes it.
I understand how some people don't like a 250 guy picking a single digit. I hate seeing top 20 permanent numbers rolling around noncompetitive to their status.

Jim Chester was 69, Bradshaw was 68, can't recall what number Rodney Barr ran at that time.

RC said almost exactly this in stone spray sandwich. Basically he said nobody gives a fuck about wins, all they care about are championships. That being said, I don't think RV holds a candle to RC in his prime.

If you ask me, you either take the deuce because the point is to have the lowest possible number to signify your badass-ery, say fuck letting anyone else take it and make it great for them, or you take the 8 and reinvent the beast from the east (which Cooper essentially is) because Yamaha would probably dig that shit. Or keep the 17 because it's been a great number thus far.

OMG...Carmichael was untouchable in his prime...UNTOUCHABLE!!
He didn't dethrone him, but Reed did make Ricky cry, literally.

The reason he SHOULD take it is 2 fold. He is THE next dominant rider. And because there is nobody even close to his stature as a racer coming up behind him. If he doesn't take it some one will who has no business doing so.

He should take it.

Have you heard of a kid named Forkner?
Forkner wont touch Coop.

Even after he moves up to the big bikes.

I think RV would have gave RC all he could handle. They had the same fitness/trainer and RV would have smoked his ass indoors. Had it never went all 4-stroke Bubba would own them all. He carried momentum on the smokers like nobody else!

Since we're talking numbers here ....

The current system is a joke. Go back to the old system where a rider's number reflected his year end ranking.

They're always carrying on about making the sport more fan friendly. Well, that would be an easy one. Even new fans that aren't familiar with who is who would be able to roughly tell by the number who the top guys are.

As far as marketing your number ... too bad. Market your name.

Ricky was the first to admit that Reed was faster indoors. He would probably admit that Stewart was at one point as well.

No only was he freaky fast, but he was also humble about it too.
