Disassembled bike parts

How organized are you with your disassembled bike parts?
Any certain pattern or just random shit everywhere?
Guess I fall somewhere in the middle.

I have a half dozen or more of these in my shop for keeping small parts when I'm working on bikes. I can move them around easily to and from the bike, stack them......Dollar Store specials

Pretty organized, i label any nut and bolt that comes off the bike and put them in bags

Ziplocs and sharpies to label the bags. Throw it all in those bags during disassembly.

I don't have room/time to lay shit out. If I can't figure out the six nuts/bolts in the "Shock linkage" bag, or ten screws in the "clutch cover" bag upon reassembly, than I have proven to myself that I am dumber than even I predicted.

If there is a memory-intensive assembly to put back together (say, electrical or a spring-loaded assembly, or something repetative like a suspension compression stack), I snap a quick picture, wire it together in order if possible, toss it in an appropriately labeled bag, and keep moving with the project.

Yeah I'm pretty organized too...for the most part. I usually don't have to label parts, but I do take a lot of pics for future reference. I had a guy tell me "well how do I know you rebuilt your topend and repacked all your bearings ect"...I whipped out about 20 different pics of my tore down bike in certain steps...he said oh...ok. haha.

I hear ya..I can recognize pretty much every nut, bolt, fastener or part off my bike...even if they were all just tosed in a single container..I just like my shit orderly and clean for reassembly..plus I think it looks cool..

Currently...bottom end of my motor is at the shop I work at...top end/rolling chassis at my personal shop...plastics and seat are at home. The bolts are at least organized as to where they came out of though! Laughing

Everyone's brains work different. My rebuilds are usually pretty spaced out so some nut and bolts or screws I need to label. But for the most part I keep them in groups like plastic fasteners, linkage, brake parts, ect



This is my buddy's Yamaha XS650 while he was making that hard tail frame.

At this point in my life I am pretty intimate with the inner workings of kx125s, rm250, and rmz's, so I just clean shit and keep it in plastic bags so I don't lose parts. If I'm doing something new I have the organization of a brain surgeon on adderall. ... without a TUE

Way to much effort in those pics... I actually got to excited to put stuff in any kind of order. All my nuts and bolts get tossed into or around a magnetic tray. Everyrhing else in a plastick tote.

Figuring out where every bolt belongs is half the fun for me. Each one a little victory lol.

No extra effort at all. Take a part off...clean immediately and set down..Keep like parts together..
Those pics were of when i tore my whole bike apart from the frame up so yeah there was a lot of effort in that one
Only thing I didn't take apart was the front forks and bottom end of the engine although I did put a new oem clutch kit in. I've got other pics of the entire bike layed out on two separate tables. Those pics are when I did a complete pre season bike prep last December...New top end..repack all bearings..New brake pads..New clutch. ..New tires...New chain/sprockets...New grips...cleaned and sealed all electrical connections...etc ect. The bike didn't even need none of that shit but I did it anyway in preparation for this year's season and never raced one fucking time this year...ain't that a bitch...

First time i've done anything a bit of cardboard or polystyrene with the parts pushed through and a note written on it.... works well.

We just did a top end on an RM125 and I think its the first motor work I have done since 2004 .

I haven't even got a bench.

Really try my best to put things down in a labelled and clear way (pretty important not to get the cylinder head parts in the wrong order). I wish I had a large workshop like most of you guys do - my little man cave back in the UK wouldn't even fit your average American car.

Oh dear..... Really oh dear.... I have a right mixture of boxes, pots, pans, bags, bins, tubs, trays, shelves etc etc.... I'm pretty good at identifying parts of my bikes though, sometimes I find a nut, bolt or washer on the floor, or in my jeans pocket and think ooh that's from xyz.....
Like posted above I like the challenge of a good rebuild Evil

It's no big deal until your building 3 bikes for yourself at once and a motor or two for other people and three or 4 sets of shocks for other people and then the vapor blaster found its way into my garage and started a cluster Fuck from HELL in the house.
And then there is my Karting buddy
